E.L.F. Studio Lip Primer & Plumper

    Good Multi-Use Product

This dual-ended product is a pleasant surprise. The light flesh-toned primer allows you to very SLIGHTLY change the shape of your mouth so that you can follow with a lip pencil or brush and adjust it with color. If your lipstick is too dark, it makes the shade more workable. I absolutely LOVE the cinnamon scent of the plumper. There is a little difference in the size of my lips for a small time, but I have never found a plumper that was more than temporary. The cinnamon reminds me of homemade candy made in this area around Christmas time, a delightful scent. It is more than worth the small price paid.

    E.L.F. Kabuki Brushes

    INCREDIBLY SILKY AND EFFECTIVE

Elf has a total winner with its kabuki brush! As "Nikatron" notes below, the appearance has changed. The brush is slightly wider and has mainly white bristles topped with black. I, too, have spent a small fortune on kabuki brushes, as magazines, the media, and my friends would tout a particular brand, but until now I have not been impressed with any in particular. This is BY FAR MY FAVORITE! It is softer than soft, so silky that you need not fear using it anywhere on your fragile complexion. It works beautifully with mineral foundation, but I've been using it with my Lancôme Dual Finish Compact Foundation because the coverage is seamless. Your makeup is not apparent at all, but you are left with a radiant glow. This is fantastic for applying a microfinish HD powder to conceal wrinkles, keep oil at bay, and set your foundation. It is excellent for use to completely and flawlessly blend blush so that it looks completely natural or contour your face with darker colors to highlight cheekbones. I have washed my brush and dried it several times, but the hairs stay intact. ELF offers a lot of bargains, and this is by far one of the best!

  • Sebastian Professional DRENCH Conditioner

I just looked at my last several reviews, and they're all about moisturizing. I didn't plan to do that, but I suppose that, although I love snow, the severe cold in Pennsylvania (and much of the country) this fall and winter has made a lot of us want to get clean, cozy, and think seriously about moisturizing every part of our bodies, hair included. Sebastian's™ "Professional Drench™" Conditioner lives up to its name. I would not recommend it for those with fine or thin hair, but it takes hair in already good or distressed shape and revitalizes it beautifully. It has a pleasant scent. I rub through all of my hair, concentrating the bulk on my ends. Hydrolyzed silk, jojoba seed oil, and rice bran oil are just some of the ingredients which work quickly to repair any hair distress, calm frizzy strands, and temporarily mend split ends. I love when I use this, as I use a lot of different brands, but tend to stay mainly with Neutrogena's "Triple Moisture Daily Deep Conditioner" and their "Triple Renewal Weightless Conditioner." Like the Neutrogena formulas, this does not weigh hair down. After use, hair is especially silky, glossy, bouncy, sweet-smelling, voluminous, and ready to flaunt!

Burt's Bees Baby Bee Apricot Baby Oil

Perfect for Every "Baby," Young and Old

When I was a baby, my mom contacted Johnson & Johnson, telling them to promote the use of baby oil for mothers and adults who handled children. They actually thought she was kidding and said it should be reserved for infants! I have no idea who was working in their R&D Department then, but they should have been fired. She stewed over that for years. Recently, I saw my nephew's wife use "Burt's Bees Baby Bee Nourishing Baby Oil" on my great nieces. They smelled Heavenly--and I became my mom! I ordered a bottle and use it constantly. The delicate formula will harm no skin, and it contains luscious apricot kernel oil, as well as oil of grape seeds, wheat germ, sunflower, and canola. It is about as pure as products can be (no parabens, petrochemicals, or phthalates here), and works beautifully on little and larger bodies. We both apply it directly to skin. Despite the amount of emollients, it is light and absorbs easily. I like to put several drops in a warm bath for an all-over beauty treatment. Skin is comforted, made velvety, and retains moisture. It is reasonably priced, as a jar costs about $7.99 and will last a very long time.

    Yu-Be Moisturizing Skin Cream

    Heals and Softens Beautifully

I like this cream a lot for extremely dry skin such as chapped lips, hands, elbows, knees, and my feet (oh, my feet develop a shell in the winter, I swear!). What continues to amaze me is that the chief ingredient is glycerin, a natural humectant which attracts and maintains moisture in the skin. Never underestimate the power of pure glycerin. It is the sole ingredient in my much-loved "O'Keeffe's Working Hands" Cream (about $7.99 on Amazon). It heals cuts and will change my skin to a much better state overnight. Yu-Be takes it a little further and adds Vitamins E, B2, and camphor (thus, the foul smell). Camphor is used to soothe irritations and stimulate blood circulation. I like this cream. I like O'Keefe's more because it works just as well sans the off-putting odor for a lower price (thus, this loses two stars). But it is a very good product, all the same.

    Vaseline Lip Therapy Cocoa Butter

    Smells and Feels Ultra-Comforting!

My husband would follow me around like a puppy whenever I would use this, so I bought him his own small tub. It's a great size for your purse, bed stand, or desk drawer, affordable enough to keep one everywhere, and extremely plush and comforting on your lips. The gloss itself is thick enough so that I am not constantly reapplying. The reassuring scent and feel are perfect for rough winter days or hot, dry time in the summer. I'm in love!

Burt's Bees Lemon Butter Cuticle Cream

    Power-Packed Cuticle Cream

Sometimes I find that ALMOST nothing I do helps with rough hands and cuticles. I use a chalkboard a great part of the day, and I am continually washing and sanitizing my hands. When I need "deep treatment," I slather on Burt's Bees "Lemon Butter Cuticle Cream." It has a luscious scent and a very rich formula, containing sweet almond oil, cocoa seed butter, Vitamin E and sunflower oil. Generally I use one or two products on my hands and cover with gloves (highly attractive, I know). In the morning, it's as if the damage has been erased. I love this product and it's affordable, about $5.99.

No 7 Lift and Luminate Day and Night Serum

Missing Key Ingredients to Lighten and Lift!

Although my skin is happily in very good shape, I find myself to be increasingly demanding when it comes to choosing skin care products. A lot of my friends were raving about "Boots No. 7 Lift & Luminate" Day and Night Serums (about $25.00 for the pair), and so I indulged. The formulas are ultra-gentle, even for sensitive and highly allergic skin, and they are lightweight, seeping into your complexion easily and seamlessly. The claims are that the appearance of wrinkles will be reduced, skin will be visibly lifted, and your overall tone will be more even and radiant. These are nice, silky moisturizers, to be sure, and will help to stave off wrinkles as opposed to not using a serum or moisturizer whatsoever (an SPF factor would be helpful here, too). But I'm becoming addicted to studying product ingredients (okay, okay, I do cave and fall for nice packaging as well). I love Ole Henriksen because the natural retinols in the products do indeed lighten brown spots, reverse damage, and improve texture (wrinkles included). NeoCutis has "processed skin cell proteins" which give an improvement in appearance very quickly. I see that the Boots "Day Serum" contains some Vitamin C, which in bulk will definitely lighten skin (so will licorice extract and some other natural substances). The amount contained in the serum is at the very end of the list, an amount not enough to bring about any change in the luminosity of your complexion. If a product doesn't have retinols, I look for complex peptides and forms of hyaluronic acid (NeoCutis is an example). These are missing as well. The poly-hydroxy acids which will lift skin claim to be present in the formulas, but I found them lacking as well. My skin felt softer after using the duo consistently. It looked better, too, but all in all I believe that the "powerhouse" ingredients needed to truly make your skin taut and glowing are missing in these. I wouldn't purchase them again. I'm glad I didn't spend more.

    bareMinerals Blush

    Utterly "Charming"

Volta the savvy one speaks well below me about this blush. I have it in a tickle-me-pink called "Charm." Only the slightest bit is needed for a beautiful glow--any more will leave you looking garish, but a small amount could NOT be more flattering. It does stay on for long hours during the day and night.

    The Cutex Essential Care Twister

    Cutex is Virtually Fail-Proof

When I was growing up, only a few companies made products for nails, such as Cutex, Sally Hansen, and Revlon. I've come to rely on these, although I've added to my repertoire. This remover is excellent for spill-proof polish remover. Times have changed, but Cutex has remained reliable, fortunately. I keep this at home and at school.
