I received this in a green shade during the month of December. I didn't have a problem with applying this or the product staying in place, but unless you have a special occasion (such as a Christmas or New Year party), this is a shadow for young girls. Otherwise, it's too garish.

This is a sophisticated scent, but a very little goes a long way. If you use too much, it may seem as though you're wearing a cleaning product.

Nail growth and health are dependent on many things: A healthy diet rich in B Vitamins (especially biotin), a good strengthener ("Pink Armor" works beautifully), and general attention and care as to how nails are used (avoid employing them as tools for any reason). I have always had success with metal nail files, emery boards, and the puffy emery tools and remained skeptical that a glass file could really shape my nails. I could not have been more wrong! This charming file is a delight to take out of your purse (mine is a lovely pink). While it takes longer to file than with another type of implement, the end result is a more solid, smooth edge to nails, less susceptible to peeling and breaking. Just a hint--be sure to file in only one direction for best results.

Mary Kay's "Satin Lips" reads like an encyclopedia of moisturizers: Petrolatum, mineral oil, paraffin, candelilla wax, hydrogenated soy glyceride, and lanolin oil (not to mention more). I LOVE it although I do wish it has an SPF factor. This is best when used in conjunction with an exfoliator or Mary Kay's lip mask, but it smooths on easily, leaves a glossy, non-sticky finish, and doesn't need to be reapplied often. It makes a major change in my lips during bitter winter weather or hot, arid summer conditions. This is a year-round winner!

I love "swipe-and-go" products which flatter me and last for hours. Benefit's "Creaseless Cream Eye Shadow/Liner" ($20.00) is one such product. When I don't want to fuss with shadow but know that I cannot leave the house without it, I use "R.S.V.P.," a sparkling champagne which gives me a wide-awake look. "Skinny Jeans" is a sultry hue I use for lining and on my lid. As "LipGlossandSpandex" says, it is truly a gorgeous shade, a blend of pewter and taupe. These shadows have a lot of pigmentation and do wear for long hours sans creasing or fading, especially over a great primer. The best part is that you can use them by themselves or as a base for other colors to create unique tones.

Happy New Year! Let's start the New Year with something quite pretty: Josie Maran is not only stunningly beautiful, but she uses her pretty head to concoct great skin and makeup products for the rest of us. Her "Coconut Water Cheek Gelée" is at once a beauty treatment and a cosmetic. Living in Hawaii, Josie found that drinking a lot of coconut water made her skin and hair glow even more, so she very wisely incorporated it into this ultra-lightweight blush ($22.00). It comes in a number of colors, from coral to berry to neutral brown, but my favorite is "Getaway Red," a true blue-based crimson reminiscent of rouges of old. The formula is actually cool to the touch (that is something I can't figure out). It blends easily and well and also contains argan oil to keep skin hydrated (along with the coconut water). I generally wear powder foundation and hear that it is a total dream to use if you use a liquid base, but I'm happy with the natural look it gives me, as if I've just come in from a walk in the brisk winter weather. Only a little is needed for a flattering flush; sometimes I use it on my lips to create a base for long-lasting color. The pot should last you a long time. This powerhouse gel blush lasts for up to fourteen hours, so it's great when you know you won't have time for touch-ups or will be in an area where your makeup may run.

When I first used Bite Beauty's creme lipstick, I was transported back to being a very young girl, watching my mother apply a vibrant red to her own pout with care before leaving the house. And I realized how very much lip products and their textures have changed over the years. This is REAL lipstick. It has heft and durability. This is not for the faint of heart, but it certainly can be worn by everybody. Bite has created a shade for every woman, from natural pink to wine and bold (and very flattering!) brick red. One of the best aspects is that this stays put but also cares for your lips with moisture-rich color. Each lipstick contains the amount of the antioxidant resveratrol found in five glasses of red wine. Organic shea butter, argan oil, and Vitamins E and C work hard to keep your mouth pliable, hydrated, and protect tender skin here against premature aging. While the finish is more matte, or velvety, than you may be used to, it can be a very sophisticated look. In order to make it work for you, exfoliate lips thoroughly with your favorite product--dead skin will ruin the effect. Once lips are flake-free, the most dramatic and precise appearance is achieved with a lipstick brush. Begin at the center of your lips and work outward, very slightly modifying your lip lines if you so desire but not to the extent that it appears unnatural. One hint when working with is lip brush is to be sure to "link" the color at the very corners of your lips; some women leave them bare and the result is an unfinished appearance. Perhaps you want even more drama. With a lipstick brush or your fingers, top lips with a high-shine gloss to have all eyes on you and enjoy the attention!

I was pleased to learn that Skindinävia worked in conjunction with Urban Decay to create their "All Nighter" Makeup Setting Spray. Skindinävia's version kept my makeup intact through long, hot summer days and nights. I still find the need for a spray, especially in the dry heat of the indoors and this Christmas/New Year season of parties and get-togethers. Urban Decay's version contains silicones as well as comforting aloe leaf juice. There is a very slight odor reminiscent of hair spray when first used, but it dissipates immediately. A few spritzes are quite refreshing. There is an added benefit to my color staying put--this completely lightweight formula adds a slightly dewy, flattering look to my complexion. My makeup lasts longer than I do(!), and I'm never conscious that I'm wearing it. This is a must-have for every makeup wearer!

Despite continual moisturizing, the bitterly cold weather and snow have wreaked havoc with my entire body, from my lips to my fingers and toes. I purchased Ole Henriksen’s “Rub N Buff Salt Scrub” for $48.00. That’s a lot of money and a splurge for me, to be sure, but Henriksen products simply never let me down. It is formulated mainly of sea salt and glycerin, but the salt dissolves completely and leaves you incredibly silky-soft and revitalized in mind, body, and spirit. It is a gentle green color with an equally gentle scent. The lavender contained in the formula soothes, renews, and repairs winter-whipped skin; lemongrass essential oil releases muscular tension (how wonderful is that?) while detoxifying; and the salt deeply cleanses and exfoliates away old, dry skin cells. No matter how low the temperatures dip, I’m not afraid. It’s my personal “private island” in the middle of winter! (Of course, it can and should be used all year ‘round for glowing, touchable skin.)

Rimmel has come out with some rich, fascinating shades which apply with great ease and dry much sooner than you'd expect. Moreover, the polish stays put for a long time, at least a week, before it chips.
