    Brings hair to life

Don't be put off by how sticky this feels in your hands. It feels lightweight in your hair and rinses cleanly. After rubbing this product in my hands and through my pixie cut, I was able to mold, stretch, and otherwise arrange my hair, bringing it to life. The hold lasted all day and my hair never looked or felt greasy. As added bonuses, it smells intoxicating and makes highlights sparkle.

    Sebastian Whipped Creme

    Looks like whipped cream!

Not only is this product called Whipped Creme, it's packaged like whipped cream and shares the satiny texture of America's favorite dessert topper. I found this product to provide excellent lightweight conditioning. My hair dried soft and shiny and my highlights sparkled. But because it offers very little hold or texture, it's better suited as a leave-in conditioner followed with a texturizer than as a stand-alone styling product.

    Benefit BADgal blue

A modern blue to brighten eyes

I have bright blue eyes, and usually any sort of blue around my eyes (liner, shadow) dulls their color. This, however, enhances it. The pretty cobalt color is a modern update on those horrible 1980s blue mascaras and is subtle enough to wear to the office. Both the brush and the formula stay clump-free and dispense a fair amount of product that fans lashes out and up without looking tacky. Unlike black BADgal, BADgal blue doesn't flake and irritate my contact lenses.

    Lush Soap

Some things to keep in mind

I've tried so many of Lush's soaps that it's impossible to review each one, but I can offer some tips and say that on average I've been very happy, happy enough to go back time and again to these pricey little slices of luxury. Don't let Lush's hippy persona fool you, they sell luxury bath and body products and their soaps are no exception. Everything is handmade with the finest ingredients, and it shows--in both product quality and the price tag. Here's some things to keep in mind when buying Lush soaps, The creamy, opaque soaps lather poorly and disappear faster, and they generally smell sweet. The non-opaque (I wouldn't quite call them clear) soaps come in a wide range of fragrances and last longer. You can make any Lush soap last much longer by letting it cure for a couple of weeks (leaving it exposed to the air). I cure my soaps on the shelf above my bed so I can enjoy their aroma while they await their move to the bathroom. Any of the soaps with "stuff" in them (seeds, pumice, coconut shreds, etc.) offer exfoliation. They can also clog up your pipes if you live in a fussy old house, so I shower with a drain catch.

    Smells like pizza

I was curious enough about this soap's blend of rose and oregano fragrances to purchase it online without smelling it in person. Bad idea. It smells like pizza, which is a great smell in a kitchen, but a not so great smell in the shower. I tried to smell the "rose with green smell" that one Lush reviewer raved about, but all I could smell was the oregano. Lathering up with it nearly made me gag.

    Benefit You Rebel Lite

    Worth the drawbacks

Because I love the sheer but thorough coverage, I'm willing to put up with some of this product's drawbacks. It doesn't so much moisturize as it does rest on top of your skin and look shiny. While it's comforting to know that it's not clogging my pores, it's not a good look and you'll want to follow up application with a sheer powder. Another drawback is that it doesn't last the day, so you'll need to bring it with you to the office. But! When it's not being high-maintenance, You Rebel Lite does a fantastic job of disguising my rosacea-reddened nose and cheeks while looking like my natural skin.

    Soothes rosacea

I was leery about using this because my dry skin certainly doesn't need a cleanser that will make it drier. I finally caved and bought it after I was diagnosed with rosacea. I'd spent years battling my complexion's redness to no avail. FF has turned my skin around. I wash my face with this every evening before moisturizing and going to bed. A hunk of it lasts forever, so I cut mine into pieces and store it in a Ziploc baggie, using one piece at a time. Be sure to keep it dry and clean. If your bar gets yucky, your skin will, too.

    Lush Dark Angels Facial Cleanser

An innovative exfoliator that boasts coal and black sugar as key ingredients

As a long-time Lush, I snapped it up after hearing that it was the lovechild of Angels on Bare Skin and Coalface, two staples. I'd hoped that it would get the blackhead situation on my nose under control. It did, but not without a heinous breakout first (I suppose my pores were purged by DA). I'm hooked on the gentle but definitely scrubby feel, and how soft my skin feels after. I like to use it on dry skin to heighten the good feeling of all that dead skin getting sloughed off. Lush recommends twice-weekly use for oily skiny types and weekly use for dry skin types. I concur.

  • Lush I Love Juicy

I look forward to the two days a week I use I Love Juicy. I bought it with the intention of using it as gentle clarifying shampoo every other week or so, but the fresh, fruity lather proved irresistible, as are the results: hair that stays perfectly in place, feels clean and light, and shines on like a crazy diamond. If you experience sticker shock with ILJ, keep in mind that a dot produces more than enough lather for my short hair. I imagine it would take less than a pea-sized dollop to foam up a bob.

    Lush Vanishing Cream Moisturizer

Lush has better moisturizing options than this

I've sampled almost all of Lush's moisturizers, and this is among my least favorites. That doesn't make it bad, though, I just think that their are better options in Lush's line. Vanishing Cream feels thicker than Gorgeous--another moisturizer formulated without blackhead-inducing cocoa butter--and doesn't give my skin the same lovely glow. I also found that it didn't absorb as well as Skin Drink or smell as good as Celestial.
