    Lush The Blonde

    Soothes sunburn

Even though I live in Southern California, I don't know any blondes. And since I'm a brunette, I wasn't sure what to do with the free sample of The Blonde I received with a Lush mail order. But it was too pretty and good-smelling to throw away, so I kept it around. Glad I did. A Lush SA told me that The Blonde is awesome on sunburn. She was right. It took the sting and itch out of my burn and accelerated healing.

  • Lush Henna Hair Dyes

    Lush Henna Hair Dyes

A pain in the ... hair

Lush's hair hennas are not for the impatient. My hair should have been easy to henna because it's cut into a very short pixie. My first go was, however, a disaster. My first mistake was that I burned the henna, which dramatically reduces its effectiveness. So the next two hours of noxious smell followed by gnarly clean up yielded no results. My second try was much better. I'm glad, because I really didn't want to go back to environment-damaging, animal-torturing boxed dye, but I hate my natural color and can't afford salon color. If you want to try this, I strongly recommend checking out Lush's online forum, which discusses these hennas at length. And be sure to follow the directions!

    Sephora Maniac Long Wearing Lipstick

Holds its own against Sephora's other lipsticks

Even lipstick snobs will love this creamy pop of color housed in a chic metal container. It lives up to its claims of being long-lasting. Though some might find it a bit thick, I like that the color goes on true, is creamy, and lasts for hours. Maniac comes in a good range of colors and is recession-friendly at $12.00.

    Benefit BADgal Lash

Dear Benefit, Please please please fix the formula so it stays put!

This mascara looks stunning. I get compliments whenever I wear it. Without the help of an eyelash curler, BADgal gives me curled-up baby-doll lashes in lustrous black. Score? Not quite. Contacts lens wearers will notice that this stuff flakes into your eyes. And everybody will notice themselves looking more and more like a raccoon as the day progresses.

  • Urban Decay Deluxe Eyeshadow

    Urban Decay Deluxe Eyeshadow

A collector's item for beauty junkies

Makeup junkies like myself will want to add at least one of these to their collection. The texture is exquisite, the color extreme, and the packaging is beyond cool. I purchased this in Peace because I just HAD to have one of these. Why? It's an appealing product. It is not, however, highly wearable. It looks gorgeous, but I feel silly wearing it because it's so bright.

    You'll want to drink it

I don't like the taste beer, but after getting my first whiff of CSS's yeasty goodness, I wondered if I could find a brew that tasted the way CSS smells. But CSS is more than just a pretty smell, it leaves my hair squeaky clean, shiny, and, most importantly, moisturized. Anyone who has ever dumped a cold beer over their head in the shower (that would be me) to reap its shine-enhancing benefits will be especially appreciative of this shampoo. (Hint: pair it with Coolaulin conditioner for even more shine and luscious scents.)

    Lush Dream Cream

    I love using this

Dream Cream's texture is divine. If you poke your finger in it, the indentation will stay; that's how thick it is. I love slathering this on my limbs when I'm fresh from the shower, it keeps itchiness at bay and my boyfriend has commented that my skin has felt super soft. In spite of its thickness, Dream Cream absorbs well. Sure the herbal-y, clay-ish scent is the yummiest on the market, but you should listen to your skin, it's telling your nose to shut up.

    Demeter Fragrance Library Pick-Me-Up Spray

    Simple scents for every day

Although a tad overpriced, these one-note fragrances are fun to buy and wear. The scents are pure and simple, no hint of that "perfume smell" that makes me feel like an old lady and triggers migraines. Like the fragrances they house, the bottles are simple and pretty, a chic addition to any bathroom or vanity.

  • Lush Rub Rub Rub Shower Gel

Lush Rub Rub Rub Shower Gel

Did I get a bad batch?

Lush's website features dozens of raves for this product's smell. There is also a handful of reviewers who likened Rub Rub Rub to "burning rubber," "chemicals," and "Drano." I disagree ... it actually smells like all of those things. The smell eclipsed what is otherwise a decent shower gel. Pour it onto a netted sponge to generate tons of lather, or manually rub it on to get the full sensation of the salt scratching itchy skin. Just don't breathe through your nose while doing so.

  • Benefit Badgal Plum Mascara

    Benefit Badgal Plum Mascara

    Substitute brown mascara for purple

Wear BADgal plum as you would a brown mascara. Your eyelashes won't look '80s-purple (I promise). Plum looks softer than black, but livelier than brown. I have blue eyes and fair skin, and while it didn't play up my eye color, it looked very pretty without being too flashy for the office. I especially like to pair plum with brown or pink eyeshadows.
