    E.L.F Studio HD Blush

Highly pigmented but difficult to blend!

I purchased this in "Superstar" when doing a Cyber Monday haul! I really like a cream blush in the wintertime and was super excited to try this. I used the ELF Stipple Brush to apply on my cheeks, and although the blush was incredibly pigmented (I think all I needed was a pin size!), I found it less creamy and just more dry than other blushes that I have used that are supposed to be more of a cream consistency. As far as the color, it is a very pretty "in from the cold" color; if it is too much, keep shearing it out. You might actually have better luck with your fingers versus a stipple brush with this particular product. Due to the blending issue and the consistency, I won't be repurchasing; however, if that isn't an issue for you (or you have more patience than I!), the pigmentation is so good, maybe give it a try anyway!

  • e.l.f. Mineral Personal Blend Foundation SPF 15

This is the first loose mineral foundation I have used in years, and certainly the most economical! I was really looking for something to provide light/light medium coverage for those days where I just don't want to mess with a full face or a "foundation" routine. This was the perfect fit! One of my favorite things about this foundation is (and well, the price!) the fact that I can use it ALL year long; it comes with 4 different shades and I can mix and match as needed, depending on the season. Super cool! No more needing multiple foundations in different colors. :) I would have to agree with another reviewer; this product isn't really meant to give a heavy or full coverage look, and it won't cover acne, discolorations, blemishes, etc. My face has one area of hyperpigmentation that I cover with concealer first, and then apply this, and that is it. For my needs, this works perfectly! I was also surprised at the "oil-control" it offered; I put this in quotes as it did keep oil at bay, but I don't think it controls oil per se. I was still very impressed by this though. I also didn't really see a breakdown around my T-Zone as I can with a liquid foundation. I wouldn't quite give it a 10 as mineral foundations do have their challenges (messy, etc.) but this is a truly excellent option if you are looking for a light coverage mineral foundation. Especially at this price point, I would recommend it in a heart beat!

  • Suave Smoothing with Cocoa Butter & Shea Body Lotion

I probably won't repurchase this again but it isn't a bad moisturizer for the $2.99 price point. The biggest challenge I have had with budget moisturizers, and most notably, Suave, is the stickiness that it leaves behind. I don't equate stickiness with moisture and am not sure how some budget brands think that a sticky feeling is somehow keeping my skin soft and smooth. There are much better options available for only $1 more. I like Suave hair care but I you can, I would shoot a bit higher for a better moisturizer.

  • CoverGirl Full Lash Bloom Mascara by LashBlast

I have heard mixed reviews on this mascara and I was just hoping that it would work! I really like a natural looking mascara for days when I am not doing a full face. I found a great one by WNW that I have been using, but I was so intrigued when I saw this. The packaging, although pink, which I love, is a bit whimsical for me with the "hand-drawn" flowers on the side. However, the most important part is how well the product works. This product left my lashes pointing in all directions; it give me a little bit of definition but nothing else - no length, no volume and lashes that appeared out of control. In addition, I was also getting some mild flaking and smudging. I used it for a week to be sure that I didn't like it and off in the recycle bin it went. What a disappointment!

  • Olay Fresh Effects Deluxe Make-Up Removal Wet Cloths
    8.0

Olay Fresh Effects Deluxe Make-Up Removal Wet Cloths

    Olay Fresh Effects 'Everything Off!'

If you enlarge the picture, the actual name of the product is 'Everything Off!' This is a really decent makeup remover; it is one of the FIRST makeup remover wipes that completely takes off my mascara and leaves NO residue when I wake up the next morning. The cloth itself is incredibly soft; the challenge though? The fragrance. Yes, it smells nice, however, it causes my eyes to burn. I try to avoid fragrance on my face in any capacity because it can cause so much irritation; irritation that isn't even always visible. If Olay offered a fragrance free version of this wipe, I would be sold for life! (Sidenote: for any makeup wipe, be careful not to tug at the eye area. Try adding a drop or two of water to the wipe and placing it over the eye to let it break down the mascara a bit before wiping it off. If your mascara is really stubborn, I would stick with a liquid makeup remover. You can soak a cotton ball and let it soak over your eyes and it works like a wonder!)

  • Queen Helene Mud Pack

    Queen Helene Mud Pack

    Could have been perfect :(

When I saw that this mask had kaolin, I was all over it! Unfortunately, my excitement for the kaolin overlooked the rest of the ingredients, including: citronellol, geraniol, linalool and fragrance. These are all components of fragrance that can exacerbate allergies and cause skin irritation that can occur both superficially on the surface and even below, contributing to the breakdown of collagen. Fragrance is the enemy of clear, youthful skin and I try to avoid it whenever possible. However, I used the mask against my better judgement. I wasn't crazy about the color; it was a bit off-putting and reminded me of the color of a plastic doll, sort of a fake peachy tone. It also started tingling my skin within the first few minutes; tingling does not mean the product is working. It means that there is something in the product that is causing a mild irritation. (Similar to an "itch;" an itch is a form of pain at the lowest level.) If you have any questions about fragrance, I would check out the articles on Paula's Choice website and their You Tube channel. I will stick with the plain mud mask made by Boots. This is available at most Target stores for around $7. Masks are not a requirement for a skincare regime; if your skin is looking a bit dull or lacklaster, I would definitely incorporate an AHA or BHA exfoliant to help with that, but let's be honest, sometimes it is just fun to give yourself a facial. :) Oh, one more thing - there aren't any ingredients in this mask for anti-aging. :(

  • Wet n Wild Color Icon Blush
    10.0

Wet n Wild Color Icon Blush

Not a "HG" or a "10" for nothing!

This blush has a cult following and there are so many reasons as to why! I have one in every color; Pearlescent Pink (some say a Nars ****** dupe), Berry Shimmer (a red with gold flecks), Heather Silk, and Mellow Wine (a "just came in from the cold" look). For about $2.99, you get a blush that is incredibly creamy, pigmented and long lasting. The only (minor) drawbacks: The packaging feels a bit flimsy and cheap; the textured pattern in the blush (I prefer no texture) and the blushes are powdery so be sure to tap off excess. These are truly one of my favorite blush lines of all time and not just in the drugstore! I would absolutely give it a try.

  • Maybelline New York Eye Studio Master Shape Brow Pencil

Maybelline New York Eye Studio Master Shape Brow Pencil

UPDATE: 1/17/15: Soft Brown is the perfect match!

1/17/15: I recently pulled out this Maybelline pencil after purchasing an automatic pencil from Milani and was so surprised at how dry the formula is in comparison. I think, although this product is good, I am leaning towards the automatic pencils as they are so creamy and easy to apply and blend................. I have been using a Clinique brow pencil (self-sharpening) in a darker brown color, then I got a heavy blonde highlight done to my hair and it was all of a sudden too harsh. I have been wanting to buy another one from Clinique, or even Anastasia, but I just didn't want to shell out the extra cash for it. After looking at several options at the drugstore, I decided to go with this pencil in the Soft Brown. The first day I used it, I received so many compliments! It was a perfect match for my brown base with blonde highlights. I love the spoolie brush on the bottom of the pencil; it allows me to really blend the color in. I agree with some other reviewers that I do wish the pencil was self-sharpening, but I didn't take off points for that; I knew what it was when I bought it. Maybelline does have pencils that are self-sharpening, but I picked this one because I thought the Soft Brown was a better color match than the other colors in Maybelline's other pencil line. I am really glad I picked this. I did try a less expensive non-Maybelline pencil sharpener, and it chewed some of it up badly, so I would recommend the Maybelline sharpener which I now have, and it works really well.

  • E.L.F. Studio Moisturizing Lipstick

At first I wasn't so sure, but I am just falling more in love with this lipstick! First off, I am not a lipstick girl to begin with, but this formula is just so smooth and nourishing that I can's get enough. At first, I had concerns with the pigmentation; however, this is truly a moisturizing lipstick and as a result, some of the pigmentation may be a tad softer but still VERY colorful! I have this in Cheeky, Pink Minx, Flirty & Fabulous, Velvet Rope, Red Carpet, Orange Dream, Cranberry Crush and Wine Tour. My mom loves a true orange lipstick and I even bought her one in Orange Dream! So beautiful, especially for the summer. Love the packaging and love the price! At $3, I can pretty much try them all. The only con, the lipstick "jiggles" a bit in the tube, but other than that, it is an excellent option.

  • Rimmel London Natural Bronzer
    7.0

    Rimmel London Natural Bronzer

    Sun Light (Matte)

I am a big time drugstore junkie, and along with NYC "Sunny", Rimmel has made some of my favorite bronzing shades, including Sun Light which is a matte powder. This past Christmas, I really wanted the Chocolate Soleil bronzer and after looking at some high end bronzers, it really seemed to me that so many drugstore options are just too orange or peach toned. As much as I have loved Sunlight for years, this one too is on the peachy side. I have used it for contouring and as a bronzer/blush. It is a great formula, just a bit of an odd color for most skintones. When I swatch it on my finger or hand, it is very peach toned. However, I love the fact that it is matte and no shimmer; I can use all year round! Plus, it holds up well against my oily skin. One of the better drugstore options but be cautious of the shade range available.
