  • Clinique City Block Sheer Oil-Free Daily Face Protector Broad Spectrum SPF 25

I have been using this product for a long time now and have to update my review. Unfortunately, I had to also change the review from an 8 to a 6. :( I have tested this SPF in several different ways for awhile now and I know this SPF has a bit of a cult following. Here are my observations: 1. The texture feels nice initially, but then gets tacky and sticky after the application is complete. I also found it to be not wearable under eye concealer/makeup. (the SPF "pilled" up on my face and it looked terrible) I tested this with other SPF's to make sure it was just this one, and as it turns out, it was. :( 2. The color is an attempt to compensate for the white mask; however, it only comes in one color and it is too pale for me and the majority of colors. 3. After I had bad luck with the product when using it with makeup, I decided to try it on my arms and hands instead. A few hours later I used the restroom, and when I washed my hands, an embarrassing amount of beige color went down the drain. I guess I expected it to melt into my skin and not be quite so obvious when wet. It was more intense that if I was washing foundation off my face. 4. I think this product would be fine with those for fair/light skin and when not applied under makeup or eye concealer. (I thought this would be a perfect SPF for the eye area since there is NO stinging, but it just caused my makeup to pill. The foundation I was using was Clinique Stay Matte and Clinique Perfectly Real with Maybelline Treatment & Concealer.) The worst part about this product is the stickiness; I have to wash my hands off right after as they feel so tacky afterwards. I am not a fan of the texture at all.

    Clinique Mild Clarifying Lotion

    For ALL Skin Types!

I recently came off of the Acne Solutions clarifying lotion. My skin used to be oily and now it is dry from the Acne Solutions products. I didn't really notice the change until I got a facial and the esthetitician talked to me about it. I thought that a few consistent breakouts and awful blackheads meant that I had to dry out the blemishes. Wrong! She said never to use a toner with alcohol in it; instead use one with salicylic acid or witch hazel. It should feel cooling and calming, and regulate the PH on the skin. I have been using this product for a week now and my skin is back to normal. I have had no breakouts and no additional or enlarged blackheads. Clinique markets this product for "dry" or "delicate" skin because it is the only toner they carry without alcohol - really, it is for all of us.

  • Herbal Essences Color Me Happy Conditioner for Color-Treated Hair

I am far more impressed with the conditioner rather than the shampoo. It is a medium consistency and creamy with a pleasant smell. It left my hair tangle free, shiny and no buildup. I can't say if I will keep buying it because the shampoo is a bit more cheaply made than the conditioner; however, for now, I am seeing results and am quite pleased with it.

  • Herbal Essences Color Me Happy Shampoo for Color-Treated Hair

Okay shampoo; great conditioner (but more on that later). I had just purchased a sulfate free shampoo (more on that later, too!) and had a really bad experience with buildup. I ditched that one and ran to the store after seeing the reviews on this one. The shampoo was okay; on the plus side, it cleaned all of the buildup out of my hair and my hair not only FELT clean but LOOKED really clean! That left me impressed. The lather was also nice and rich and it had the traditional Herbal Essences smell which is mild and pleasant. However, I find shampoos that are opaque to be a little bit more drying than ones that aren't. When I rinsed the shampoo, it didn't necessarily feel dry right off the bat, but it left my hair really tangled until I could apply the conditioner. The texture feels like a cheaper shampoo, but it did the job. I bought the smaller bottle so I will probably stick with it unless I notice my hair becoming dryer or frizzier as a result.

  • Maybelline New York Define-A-Brow Eyebrow Pencil

UPDATE 8/1/14..... I increased this from a 3 to a 7! Big change, right? I decided to give this another shot in the medium brown as I started doing some "precision" work for my brow application and needed a finer point, and the pencils set in wood unfortunately cannot accomplish that. There is still a downfall - ironically, the medium brown was not as dry as the light brown (weird!). I bought another light brown just to check and it is dryer, it broke off easily and it was difficult to swatch. There are also very limited colors to choose from. I am going to keep this for now, but will try another finer point automatic pencil from the drugstore when I run out. ....................... I bought this pencil in light brown. The color wasn't really a good match, but that was more my issue than theirs. I just didn't care for this pencil. The packaging is outdated and the comb on the end isn't as useful as a spoolie brush would be. I was drawn to the pencil since it doesn't require sharpening, however, to my surprise it wasn't nearly as smooth an application as a typical automatic pencil would be. The pencil itself was more dry than expected and required a heavy hand to see the pencil color, even when testing it on skin. A definite pass! On to the next one. :)

  • Secret Fresh Invisible Solid

I bought this in Cocoa Butter Kiss. I would agree with most of the other reviews; the goal of this antiperspirant seems to be more to "mask" odors than to prevent sweat. What is odd is that there is 19% AZT in this product and I thought for sure that it would help me in the humid midwest summer heat but it really hasn't. I originally bought this when travelling to Phoenix, which does have a dryer (no/little humidity) heat and I didn't notice an issue with the product then, but when dealing with humidity this is a definite pass.

  • Maybelline New York Illegal Lengths Fiber Extensions Waterproof Mascara

Maybelline has always been my favorite brand of mascara, drugstore or otherwise, and that hasn't changed. However, this mascara left me unimpressed. I was told several years ago that department store and drugstore mascaras were all the same in formulation and that the brush means just about everything. Well, I have noticed that the brush is a huge part of how my lashes look after. The brush on this mascara is kind of spiky and spidery looking, which resulted in lashes that looked spiky. Maybe it just wasn't what I was expecting? I was looking for length that was glossy and natural looking that I can wear on weekends with minimal (yet polished) makeup. This one just didn't work out for me so in the meantime I will use my Maybelline Colossal and apply only one coat. If anyone has any suggestions, let me know! :)

  • Avon Anew Clinical Skinvincible Multi-Shield Lotion Broad Spectrum SPF 50

I ordered an item (review to come!) from the website and received a good sized sample of this product and I was really impressed. Sunscreen is very technical; those with antioxidants, higher SPF, stabilized ingredients (tube vs jar), titanium/zinc oxide etc. will always score higher. However, a reviewer may not always be aware of the content within the sunscreen itself so in a lot of ways, sunscreen can be difficult to review unless I was a scientist. :) Keeping it simple, this sunscreen has a SPF 50 which is good (anything over a 30 is good) and is easily blendable. It is also highly wearable under makeup and did not cause any stinging to my skin or eye area after application. There was also no white cast. It performed very much like a higher end SPF would.

  • Hard Candy Lite Bright Concealer

    Hard Candy Lite Bright Concealer

    Ugh - Save your money!

I have been loving the Hard Candy products I have been trying so when I went to the store, looking to try something new, I grabbed this, feeling fairly confident about my purchase. I have been on this concealer kick lately and just trying out different brands and types and seeing what looks I can create from them. This by far is one of the worst concealers I have tried. :( I think the intent for them was to create something similar to Maybelline Dream Lumi (let's be honest; NOTHING is similar to that. It is pretty amazing. :) Unfortunately, they just didn't come close. I do like the brush applicator, but that is about where this love relationship stops. I started applying the concealer to the undereye area and thought, well, this isn't so bad! I started blending and within a few seconds the concealer started feeling tacky and almost dry. What happened to the creamy concealer I just applied?? It became cakey, and not blendable at all. It was the oddest concealer I have tried, to switch formulas so quickly. It ended up in the trash quicker than it took to dry! I honestly don't remember the last "1 star" rating I have done. I always try to find SOME use for a product. Sighhh.....

  • Avon Glow Marbleized Bronzer
    4.0

    Avon Glow Marbleized Bronzer

    Teeny, Tiny Bronzer

Straight out of the gate, I noticed a few challenges with this bronzer. I purchased it off of the Avon website (shocking, I know!) as I rarely, rarely ever purchase Avon products. They have been extremely hit or miss (mostly hit) with me but I was looking for a specific product they had that had rave reviews, and I came across this in their sale section. I am the queen of bronzers! I love trying them and use them all year long! I can't get enough. First off, the bronzer was originally $9.99. I paid $4.99 as it was on sale, so that was a plus until I actually received the compact in the mail. It was very, very small. So I would be remiss to NOT comment on the original price for the size that you would actually receive. I would say that it was about HALF the size of a "normal" sized powder compact. I purchased this in Beach Glow and it was much too peachy to be considered a bronzer IMO. (Should have been called Peach Glow! :) Even though it has a "baked" bronzer look with the swirls, it isn't actually baked and there was no shimmer; however the color was just really off. I could not imagine someone with fair skin being able to wear this color as my medium skin could not pull it off as a bronzer. It would make a better blush for us neutral/NC skintone girls than a bronzer. Off in the garbage it went!
