    Benefit Eye Bright

Gives Your Eyes a Refreshed, Wide-Awake Look

This beautiful pink gifts a lifts to tired eyes so very well! It works beautifully on the inner corners of eyes to get rid of shadows; I also use it on the outer corners for a wide-awake look.

Tree Hut Coconut Lime Shea Sugar Scrub

    The Secret to Ultra-Silky Skin

I've been a sloth. I do use a sugar or salt scrub on my skin when it's in a pitiful state, but I don't do it on a regular basis (for shame, to be sure!). Today it occurred to me after my shower that using a scrub would be as helpful to my body as it is to my face, that I should make it a daily habit (or every two or three days, at the most). Old, dead cells would be washed away, my arms, legs, feet, etc. would be moisturized, and any additional products I put on as emollients would work more thoroughly. So I treated my limbs (and hands--they're the first to show your age) to Tree Hut's "Shea Sugar Body Scrub" in "Mango." It has a delightful tropical scent, not artificial. While the grains go to work to polish and refine, several oils hydrated deeply. They include evening primrose, sweet almond, avocado, macadamia seed, and orange. While my skin took on a new glow, I finished with Tree Hut's luscious "Shea Body Butter." I feel like a totally new woman. This is a new resolution for this year, to polish continually and enjoy my silken skin. I'm keeping the sugar body scrub by the bathroom sink to exfoliate hands and arms in between showers and keep my skin looking young. After all, you only have one body . . .

    Philosophy Hope in a Jar

    It's Just Hope--It Doesn't Produce Results

My husband's cousin is sixty years old, but her perfect skin belies her age by at least thirty years. It's hard not to stare at her when we're together. I finally asked what she used, and she said, "Philosophy's Hope in a Jar." That's it. Of course I had to try this virtual fountain of youth, but I was disappointed. It's a run-of-the-mill moisturizer. It smooths and hydrates, but I don't find any ingredients aside from glycerin which will give long-term wrinkle relief and gorgeous skin. I would not repurchase. This is highly overrated.

Volta, So Sorry This Sultry Fragrance Didn't Work for You

Volta humorously told us the dangers of trying a fragrance on yourself and assuming that it smells great--avoid, avoid. A fragrance is greatly affected by the natural smell of your own skin, your mood, stress level, body chemisty, diet, age, and any medications you may be taking. That's why I always ask several men what they think of a scent before purchasing; I am often surprised at their difference of opinion, but I trust it as opposed to mine in good part. This is totally sensual on me, as it is on Sprout (verified by my husband and some good male friends and relatives). It has notes of freesia, green absinthe, peach, rose, iris, sandalwood, cashmeran, musk, amber and vanilla. I'm glad I didn't have to find out if it worked for me the hard way.

  • Alterna Bamboo UV+ Color Protection Fade-Proof Fluide

I hate when my hair loses it shine after it has been colored. Enter Alterna's "Bamboo UV + Color Protection Fade-Proof Fluide" (about $25.00). It is comprised chiefly of bamboo extract, which boosts hair's strength and flexibility and organic kendi oil, which works to improve the outer cuticle (there are a plethora of other oils involved, but you wouldn't guess it from the lightweight texture). It has a delightful scent--spray on to keep your color longer, protect it from thermal styling tools, put an end to frizz, and add dazzling shine. Be sure to acknowledge the admirers who follow you down the street!

    Neutrogena Naturals Lip Balm

Ignore the Man Behind the Curtain--More Moisturizing Than You May Think!

Neutrogena® Naturals is a gentle, silky lip balm, but do not underestimate the potency of the emollients in the formula. It applies easily and leaves a light coating, but your lips are being treated to a hydrating cocktail of beeswax, jojoba seed oil, sesame, sunflower, and olive fruit oils, shea butter, cacao seed butter, and Vitamin E. I like this a lot; moreover, I don't have to reapply often and my lips show permanent improvement.

  • Pumpkin Nutrient-Rich Facial Mask

    Pumpkin Nutrient-Rich Facial Mask

A Pumpkin Powerhouse to Cleanse and Moisturize

When you use this, be prepared for the appearance, texture, and scent of canned pumpkin, not an artificially sweet mix. It is a completely organic product, especially made to moisturize and nourish. This pumpkin has a bit of "kick" (tingle) to it while it's on your face and neck. Those are pumpkin enzymes, antioxidants, and glycolic acid working hard to dissolve impurities like dead cells and clean pores completely. These exfoliators improve elasticity, disguise the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and impart a lovely luminosity and a silken feel. Skin feels tighter, more pliable. This is a great mask for young women troubled with acne and older women troubled by signs of aging. The mask should not be used for those with sensitive skin, however, as experienced by one of the reviewers on this site. Apply after cleansing in a thin, even layer, waiting five to ten minutes. Even if your skin reacts very well to this, Michael Todd recommends using it every week or two. Other ingredients are sugar cane extract, bilberry fruit extract, orange fruit extract, meadowfoam oil, cinnamon bark, Vitamin C, ginger root powder, and acai fruit pulp. My skin feels mildly warm once the initial tingle fades away, and the results are well worth the time spent to purge and nourish my skin. I can't wait for my next treatment!

Escada Cherry in the Air Fragrance

Escada, Would You Tone Down the Cherry a Bit?

Cherry is pleasant in a fragrance, but it is quite powerful in Escada's version. I like fun, floral scents, but I wish the cherry weren't so prominent. The other notes of raspberry, mandarin, marshmallow, gardenia, coconut, sandalwood, and oakwood should temper the strong fruit fragrance. I feel like a little girl wearing this rather than refreshed.

  • Gucci Flora By Gucci Glorious Mandarin

My hopes were high for this mandarin fragrance by Gucci. Key notes also include piña colada accord, jasmine, creamy wood, and white musk. It sounded fresh and effusive. Instead, I found it overly heavy, with the mandarin hard to detect and far too floral. Of course, several factors can influence the natural smell of your skin, from your mood, stress level, age, body chemistry, diet, and medications you take. Perhaps this is refreshing on someone else, but it didn't work for me.

    E.L.F. Studio Cream Eyeliner

    Eyes Lined Fine!

My first trial with ELF's cream eyeliner was with the shade "Golden." I was wondering why it was so hard to get pigment. Then I realized that I had not made the best hue selection and went on to purchase "Purple," "Midnight," "Black" and others. The formula is creamy and allows me to define my eyes with a thin or thick line. I rarely use the brush which came with it but more high-quality brushes. As for the gold, I love to put a dot over my pupils for evening makeup. It looks sultry.
