  • Marc Jacobs Daisy Eau de Toilette

What a refreshing, sophisticated yet soft scent! The key note to this is violet, and there are other notes which include strawberry, ruby red grapefruit, gardenia, jasmine petals, musk, vanilla, and white woods. All in all, Marc Jacob's "Daisy" is pure delight!

  • New York Color BROWSER BRUSH-ON BROW KIT

I reviewed this several years ago for another site; I was the "Drugstore Deals Reviewer," and you can hardly find a better steal than this one. For a little less than $4.00, NYC provides brow powder, a nice wax to keep unruly brows in shape, tiny tweezers that actually DO work, and a stiff-bristled brush. Keep a palette on your vanity, one in your purse, and yet another at work for touch-ups. The powder is a tad dark, but if you use a light hand while applying, you can definitely make it work for you!

  • DHC Purifying Charcoal Shower Gel

    DHC Purifying Charcoal Shower Gel

    A True, Deep-Down Clean

This is a great shower gel for all year, but particularly for the spring and summer after you've been outside. It deep-cleans all residue and rids skin of grime, oil, perspiration, and any particular substances with which you've been working (gardening, perhaps, or painting). This is not a highly foaming gel, but it is a highly effective one (so effective, in fact, that I was thinking of asking the company to create an accompanying product for the face and neck to cleanse pores completely). A potent blend of charcoal and sage rid the skin of toxins, purifying you completely and preventing body odor. Eucalyptus oils create a refreshing, cooling sensation. This shower gel also contains lemon, rosemary, and citrus extracts along with hydrolyzed collagen. My husband loves this when he comes in from outside to shower, and so I bought two bottles, one for each of us. That way, I know there's always enough in our home.

  • Hard Candy Eye Shadow Quartet

    Hard Candy Eye Shadow Quartet

    Were Utterly Amazing Years Ago!

I miss the old days when these Hard Candy quads set the standard for innovation and quality in eye shadows. Ads for this wildly popular company graced the pages of nearly every beauty magazine; celebrities reveled in these shadows, and makeup artists highly recommended them. Recently I looked on eBay and saw multiple Hard Candy single shadows and other cosmetics sold in bulk for a pittance. How sad! I reviewed them more than ten years ago for another beauty site, and I can't recall the number of quads available, but there were many. They were not intended for teen girls, but for sophisticated women who were savvy about makeup in general and shadows in particular. Hard Candy was not cheap--I recall purchasing a palette for a friend I was setting up on a blind date (they really made eyes pop), and I recall her screaming at me, "You paid WHAT?!" They were about $30.00 or more at the time. The names were completely unconventional--from "Heist," "Core, "Grind," "Byte," "Rage," to "Trash" and more. The colors were so complementary that they melded into one sophisticated, often slightly holographic look which garnered attention from just about everyone I knew. The "Pixie" palette, for instance, used pink, burgundy, white, and ecru to create an unusual but highly flattering lavender nuance of color. "Old Skool" employed creme, brown, copper, and a decadent, shimmering chocolate brown to create a neutral look which was anything BUT ordinary. There were multiple ways to wear the shades, and the pigmentation was deep and very long-lasting. There are still some available on Amazon and eBay. I suggest you try one--ANY ONE--and guarantee that you won't be unhappy. They range from about $20.00 to $50.00. It's better to have the experience of wearing one of these than never to have tried them at all!

  • Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil

Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil

    Urban Decay Delivers!

I love when a product lives up to its claims. Urban Decay's "24/7 Glide-On Pencils" apply with the ease of a liquid, blend beautifully, and provide a non-budge, long-lasting finish. There are forty colors available in various finishes (matte, shimmer, and micro-sparkle), so exquisite that it makes it hard to choose. But they are worth every penny!

  • Clinique Take The Day Off Makeup Remover for Lids, Lashes & Lips

I've been using and loving Clinique's "Take the Day Off" for longer than I can recall. It is non-irritating, non-stinging, and doesn't make me have to pull or tug on delicate skin. I saturate a cotton ball or makeup wipe and begin with my eyes--primer, shadows, liner, and brow products dissolve easily. Another cotton swipe completely removes even the most stubborn lip and cheek stains, along with concealer, foundation, etc. It is non-oily and refreshing. I then cleanse, tone, and moisturize as usual.

  • Clinique High Impact Mascara

    Clinique High Impact Mascara

Made an Impact on My Eyes!

One of the reasons I was drawn to Clinique's "High Impact Mascara" is that it is available in a black/brown color for a softer look. I did get more than I expected. It coats lashes well and remains pliable so that I can add more if I want without clumping sans the "spider eyes" appearance. There is a definite increase in length and volume with no flaking, either. I find myself using this more and more often.

  • Urban Decay Skyscraper Multi-Benefit Mascara

My heart was beating wildly when I first opened Urban Decay's "Skyscraper Multi-Benefit Mascara." The pliable, purple blush showed such promise! UD claims that "this monumental breakthrough will lengthen, strengthen, separate, curl, brighten, and thicken your lashes sans clumping or flaking." Those are bold claims--and the mascara didn't live up to them. I had some increase in length and a bit in volume, but basically my lashes were simply tinted. It was mediocre at best.

  • Hanae Mori Butterfly Eau de Toilette Spray

Hanae Mori Butterfly Eau de Toilette Spray

Why Did They Name It "Butterfly?"

A friend gave me her bottle of Hanae Mori "Butterfly." She didn't like it. I liked the name; moreover, I can get along with pretty much any fragrance and was grateful. The key notes in this are Strawberries, Bilberries, Black Currant, Bulgarian Rose, Jasmine, Ylang-Ylang, Sandalwood, Almond, and Praline. Sounds great, right? I found it immediately harsh. As time went on, it stayed severe on me, more like a spray for insects than a fragrance--very heavy. Anyone want a twice-owned bottle?

  • Yves Saint Laurent Beauty RIVE GAUCHE EAU DE TOILETTE SPRAY

In high school, I began performing with the majorettes. I remember my first summer particularly well for one reason: Every single time the head majorette came near me to chat or give instructions, there a hint of talcum powder, but so much more beautiful. She was a senior and I didn't associate it with any cologne or fragrance she might be wearing. Finally, when my longing for the luscious scent overcame me, I asked her what she was wearing. It was YSL's "Rive Gauche." This is a casual, sensual fragrance. The top notes are rose with bright bergamot highlights, making it light. And then the warm and softness take over with the middle notes of oakmoss, vetiver, and musk. It's not easy to find these days, but I just purchased more at Amazon. It comes in a distinct bright blue flacon with black and chrome accents. The flacon is pretty; the fragrance is absolutely unforgettable.
