    Visine Totality Multi-Symptom Eye Drops

    Put the Visine Down--Now!

Visine is a vasoconstrictor, and redness disappears because your blood vessels cut off the flow of blood to your eyes. With continued use, it actually causes more crimson and you reach for your bottle to stop it more and more frequently. It creates the ultimate Catch-22 and your chances of being permanently harmed by it are high. This liquid can also affect the cornea and cause complete blindness. If you need it once in a great while, it is safe. If you find it helpful and rely on it more than once or twice in a month, as I did, you become a junkie. There is such a thing as addiction to Visine--who knew? Lots of women across the country are suffering permanent vision loss because of the drops we thought were as safe as milk. Gather your Visine bottles together. Pull the containers out of your purses, vanities, medicine cabinets, glove compartment, and office drawers and empty into a trash bag. Don't even think about stashing them under sofa cushions or in coat pockets--I know those old tricks. It was difficult for me to say goodbye to something that I had used as a type of cosmetic for much of my life. I find that singing Frankie Valli's "My Eyes Adored You" will help with the pain before you ditch the product for good. So now what, especially if you are plagued with allergies and sinus problems? Make the switch to GenTeal®, an anti-irritant found in the drugstore, my second home, and watch for an immediate improvement. It is completely free of preservatives and will safely lubricate your eyes.

  • StriVectin Eye Concentrate for Wrinkles
    5.0

    StriVectin Eye Concentrate for Wrinkles

    Moisturized Eyes. Period.

My mind can't wrap itself around the fact that StriVectin™ products don't work for me. I keep telling myself that the next new one to hit the shelves will be the one which will change my life. My skin is really in pretty great shape, but I want to know that I have go-to products if I begin to wrinkle (praying I don't). I've been annoyed by some sagging skin around my eyes and miniscule creases. What did I do? I shelled out $15.00 for a sample size of StriVectin's™ travel-size "Eye Concentrate for Wrinkles." After all, it claimed its place in "Allure" Magazine's "Best of Beauty Award Winners for 2012." Fifteen dollars was worth the risk. StriVectin™ touts that by the second week of use, dark circles and puffiness will be reduced. By the fourth week, natural collagen will be renewed, with an increase in firmness and an improvement in texture. By the eighth week, elasticity will be reinforced, and fine lines and crow's feet will diminish. Much like StriVectin-SD™ for stretch marks and wrinkles, the ingredients should absolutely work--on paper. They include glycerin, glyceryl sterate (a lubricant which gives a soft, smooth appearance), dimethicone (a form of silicone which fills in lines and furrows as it also increases the velvety feel of your complexion), squalane, caffeine (which has anti-inflammatory properties to decrease puffiness), cucumber seed oil, sodium hyaluronate (a moisture magnet which binds water to skin, improving the appearance and feel), and peptides, which work to increase collagen production. The cream contains brighteners and light-reflecting ingredients to give a more youthful, blurred appearance. This is to be used twice daily on cleansed skin, using your ring finger (it exerts the least pressure) to gently pat under the eyes and move upward and outward toward eyebrows. FOOLED AGAIN! (Does anyone else hear "The Who" singing here?) My skin was softened. No improvement in very tiny lines, no brighter appearance, no tightening of skin. I do find these with Ole Henriksen's eye cream, but StriVectin left me shaking my head yet again. I want to love it, I want to believe the claims--and I can't.

  • StriVectin-SD Intensive Concentrate
    3.0

    StriVectin-SD Intensive Concentrate

Was Sure It Would Work But Didn't!

For the price of $139.00 for five ounces, StriVectin-SD™ should create miracles. Emphasis on the word "should" here, as StriVectin continues to claim a huge difference in stretch marks and wrinkles when used regularly. My experience with this differs greatly. Actually, the company boasts that after the second week of use, natural collagen resurges and texture and resilience of skin improves; by the fourth week, natural cell turnover intensifies, visibly fading discoloration; and by the eighth week, elasticity is reinforced, with wrinkles and stretch marks visibly diminished. I always thought that if I began to develop wrinkles anywhere, such on my hands as I am now, I could turn to StriVectin™ and see them disappear. NOT SO! The ingredients are complex. A key ingredient, 8 percent NIA-114, is supposed to be so powerful in promoting cell turnover that users may notice a warmth or blush when first using it and apply a cool compress if this happens. I felt nothing. This cream is not to be used by women who are breast-feeding or pregnant! Other ingredients are Peptide Actives™, which are useful in promoting collagen production and, in turn, more youthful skin. StriVectin-SD™ also contains shea butter, glycerin, hydrogenated vegetable oil, dimethicone (a form of silicone which fills in skin's creases and furrows), green bean seed extract, sodium hyaluronate (a moisture magnet which binds water to your skin), the potent antioxidant resveratrol, hydrolyzed hyaluronic acid, and fruit cell culture extract, among a very long list. I don't know how these ingredients don't result in wrinkle-free, satin-like skin, but they don't. After eight weeks of religious use (twice a day on cleansed skin), my skin was softened. Period. Tiny brown spots were not lightened at all. Wrinkles remained exactly as they had been before I began. There was no improvement in elasticity or resilience of skin. Perhaps this works for some women, as StriVectin™ thrives. For me, it did very little.

  • Estee Lauder Swiss Performing Extract For Dry and Normal/Combination Skin

My mother rarely treated herself to beauty products; she saved her extra money on clothing and items for my sister and me. She had PERFECT skin with absolutely no wrinkles. I recall being in junior high and noticing that she brought home Estèe Lauder's "Swiss Performing Extract" (perhaps she was going through a mid-life crisis and had unnecessary doubts about her complexion). I ran to tell my older sister that the bottle cost $7.50--I was stunned for a single bottle of moisturizer (now I laugh, as the price is $48.00 and that's not considered terribly high)! I "borrowed" a little of the moisturizer as a pre-teen and thought it made my face smooth but in my naiveté didn't know why my mom needed it. Since it has remained in Estèe Lauder's inventory, I bought it for myself (there is an army of loyal followers for this product). Now I understand why this item has been kept. My face is akin to velvet when I use this, and there is a definite increase in elasticity and firmness. The skin-loving ingredients are manifold: Grape seed and apricot kernel oil moisturize, along with hydrogenated vegetable and avocado oils. There is wheat germ, a form of Vitamin E (a powerful antioxidant), and soluble fish collagen for texture renewal, There is dimethicone, a form of silicone to fill in complexion creases and furrows and smooth skin overall. This has a pleasant fragrance and a lightweight consistently. It seeps into skin thoroughly and well, with no greasy feel whatsoever. There is also the benefit of improved skin tone. If I had to choose just a handful of products for my complexion, neck, and décolletage, this would be one of them (it performs very well under makeup during the day). I still laugh at my shock at the $7.50 price tag, but that's also when gas was about thirty-five cents per gallon. That's even more amusing!

Estee Lauder Pleasures Delight Body Lotion

    So Soft, Perfect for Layering!

This is one of my favorite fragrances. This lotion is soft and silky but deeply hydrates my skin. The fragrance remains subtle so that I can layer my perfume over it.

  • Maybelline New York One by One by Volum' Express Washable Mascara

I had no problem with obtaining length and volume with this mascara. It defines lashes well, much like Lancome's "Definicils." There is no smudging or clumping, and it lasts a long time. I like the fact that I can apply multiple coats and lashes remain pliable, not "crunchy." The brush is great to worth with!

  • Maybelline New York ExpertWear Eye Shadow 8 Pan

These don't seem to have as much pigment as their "Sultry Smokes" quads or Color Tattoo, but I have this eight-pan tray in fall shadows which do apply very well, blend beautifully, and last a very long time, especially over a good primer. The finishes in the palette range from matte to shimmer, and there are some shades which are absolutely and truly gorgeous--like a gently gleaming copper and a luxe emerald green. This is a good value.

  • Almay Intense I-Color Liquid Eyeliner
    9.0

    Almay Intense I-Color Liquid Eyeliner

    Great Colors, Fine Brush

Almay's "Intense I-Color Liquid Liner" is surprisingly good. I like Almay products in general, The liner comes in flattering colors like "Purple Amethyst" (especially good for green/hazel eyes), "Brown Topaz," "Raisin Quartz," and "Black Pearl." The brush is fine and allows you to create anything from a very thin line to a thick cat-eye. It is hypoallergenic and particularly good for contact lens wearers. This remains my "staple" of most-used products.
