    InStyler The Rotating Iron

    I can't believe it worked!

Like any heat styling tool, it took me a little practice-- but not for very long. To be honest, after brushing up on a few of the techniques in the short videos on their site you would think I had been styling my hair with it for weeks with success. I couldn't believe how easy it was once I got the basics down and that it wasn't a flimsy little metal & plastic combo to be used a few times and then tossed in the bin with a few of my older heat tools. With 3 heat settings, a rotating barrel that gets seriously hot, and a comb that helps you detangle, separate, and smooth-- it actually worked incredibly well. But like I said, not without trial and error. In the first 5 minutes, you know I had to go and burn my forehead really good because I didn't pay attention to how close I had the barrel to my head when I was working on my bangs! I've burned my forehead with many a curling iron in all of my years, so it was no big deal-- but I made a mental note to myself to make sure to tell you to be careful with the barrel and not get it too close. It seems like a no-brainer, I know-- but I did it anyway! A few of the challenges you may have out-of-the box: • sliding it throughout the length of your hair too quickly, or not in a smooth & steady motion • placing too much or not enough tension up against the barrel • not using the correct size of a section of hair in the InStyler • waking up your significant other at 7am because it's a little on the loud side while in motion! If you're mindful of these important factors, it shouldn't be too difficult to create flips, add volume and bounce, straighten, or add curls and more to your style.

    Relastin Eye Silk

    targeted my specific concerns

The texture of Eye Silk is just that– silky! Imagine a dimethicone based foundation primer, it feels very similar to that. What I really appreciated about that aspect was that like most primers, it optically blurs out fine lines and imperfections giving a smoother under eye appearance pretty much immediately. It also solves one of my pet-peeves, when my concealer decides to migrate and shift spots after a few hours! It feels moist under my eyes without looking oily which makes me feel I’m getting the much needed hydration that delicate area requires. After just a few days, my crepey-ness was visibly reduced and only continued to improve with more use. In my case, Eye Silk met my specific needs!

  • CoverGirl & Olay Simply Ageless Foundation

I was very surprised with how much I liked this! I didn't have trouble finding the right shade since I have very fair skin and the lightest color was just fine for me. Even though I tend to get oily throughout the day, my skin is very dehydrated and this really helped the dryness! I do recommend wearing a primer and if you're excessively oily, this may not be for you. If I don't wear a primer, it will kind of gather in my pores but I have to remember my pores are quite enlarged to begin with! I think this might be a little better for dryer and more mature skin types to be honest as I'm not quite a young one anymore!

    Q-tips Cotton Swabs

Probably the only way to improve what was already perfect!

I hereby declare that cute little Q-tip Vanity Pack sitting next to my brush holder one of the most practical beauty products in the world! It’s a space-saving and more sanitary way of keeping them handy, and so much more attractive (to me at least) than that box that opens up in the back and is impossible to keep shut. One of my chief complaints is how a standard box is so long and takes up so much space in my limited cabinets– remember, I have to share space now with that man I married. I think I’ll keep him, so I’ll start purchasing the new vanity packs because they’ll free up some precious drawer-space, satisfy my Q-tip dependency issues and also please me aesthetically. I can’t think of many things better than that!

  • Herbal Essences Tousle Me Softly Styling Creme

(This is an excerpt from my review on the entire collection on my site) While I don’t think all 6 products are necessary to achieve this look, I do think a few of them are important. Of course, the shampoo and conditioner– and I would select either the mousse or the spray gel just depending on what you find works best in your hair. The hairspray was excellent in holding the style all day but wasn’t crunchy and added lots of shine. The Finishing Touch Cream is nice to have but I don’t think it’s 100% necessary for me since my hair gets flat pretty easily, although it does come in handy if you want to use it to define the ends. Admittedly, I could have used it to do a much better job at taming a few of the flyaways on the top!

Herbal Essences Tousle Me Softly Mousse

nice & lightweight with perfect control for makin' waves

Okay, so maybe I’m not even in the ballpark of perfect like the model! But I did really like the products, it was pretty easy to achieve a more soft and tousled look so it’s an appropriate name for the collection. I used the Tousle Me Softly shampoo & conditioner then towel dried my hair until it was closer to damp than wet. I applied the Tousle Me Softly mousse all over my hair and lightly combed through my hair with my fingers. I also sprayed a little bit of the collection’s spray gel onto my roots just for good measure! I twisted parts of my hair up (about 5 sections) and away from my face and clipped them into place, letting them down as I dried that section with high heat, keeping the shape of the twist intact as I was drying it. You can cup the twist in your hand and lightly unwind it as it gets drier, I find that helps define more of a wave pattern instead of a curl– it’s all about the waves! Once my hair was dry, I lightly broke apart some of the tighter twisted sections into place with my fingers, almost raking them through then sprayed a decent amount of the Tousle Me Softly hairspray, and wah-lah! I was happy with the result, beach waves for a girl with shorter hair! It looks totally gorge on you girls with longer hair, I’m totally envious by the way.

  • Elizabeth Grant Soleil Smart Body Bronzer

I’ve decided that this one has a brain! It’s almost like it knew what color would be best for me… I know I’ve tried some where the color looks the same on me as it would the girl-next-door. Soleil Smart worked it’s magic in about 2 hours and stopped at the perfect shade and tone. It has more of a gel consistency when you apply it so it’s a point of difference if you have a preference.
