    Benefit Creaseless Cream Eyeshadow/Liner

decent cream shadows but too moist

these shadows have great pigmentation, are nice and creamy, and easy to apply, but in my experience they're not as "creaseless" as powder shadows or some other cream shadows I've tried. The staying power on them isn't horrible, but after 6 hours they start looking poorly. They never seemed to completely dry on me as crease resistant cream shadows should, so that contributed to its eventual creasing. For that reason, I'd use these if I were going out for the evening or something, but not when I'm expecting to be out and about all day long.

Great selection and decent price point!

I've bought a few of these in their "glamour" finishes, which are nice and glossy. They deliver plenty of color while still having a nice wet shine. The lasting time for a glossy lipstick is fairly good, though not extraordinary, and they feel smooth and lovely on. The color range is excellent too. I've bought 3 and would definitely buy again. These are great lipsticks for a "house" brand.

  • Neutrogena Deep Moisture Body Cream

Great cream. Very moisturizing and soaks into my skin well. It's neither too heavy or too light, but its main selling factor for me is the yummy smell. It's labelled buttercream but to me it smells like vanilla pudding. The only cons for me is that it's a bit spendy for a drugstore body cream and that you can't buy it in a smaller size. The 6 oz jar is great for home, but I'd love to have something smaller to carry around with me in my purse. I might have to buy a small travel container to scoop some into for that.

Maybelline New York VolumeXLSeduction Lip Plumper

Great colors, not so great plumping

I didn't really experience any noticeable plumping from this product, despite the cinnamony burn I feel when I apply it, but the gloss itself is so nice I don't care. Nice consistency, wonderful glossy shine, pleasant smell, convenient and easy to apply packaging, and great colors. I don't even really mind the sharp tingles I feel when I first put it on anymore. It lasts only a few minutes anyway, and once you get used to it, it stops feeling so sharp. This in Plum Plump is one of my favorite pink lipglosses of all time. I've gone through 3 tubes of it, and will keep buying it as long as it's available. It'd be nice of course if this gloss plumped my lips as promised, but I'm pleased enough by how it looks anyway that I can't be bothered by that.

    Too Faced Shadow Insurance Primer

Perfect for fans of Urban Decay's Primer Potion Who Got Sick of the Packaging

I tried this product because I heard that it was extremely similar to UDPP, which I had been using, but with more convenient packaging. That's pretty much what I've experienced, so consider me converted. In terms of performance and texture, the two products are nearly identical. The only difference I can tell is that Shadow Insurance may be a bit thicker and creamier, but I had to really study it to come up with that difference. If you decanted both products into identical pots and handed them to me, I'm not sure I could tell you which was which. They both do a tremendous job of keeping my eye shadow from creasing all day long without compromising the color of whatever I apply on top of it or drying out my lids. They both cost approximately the same and hold about the same amount of product, but Shadow Insurance comes in MUCH better packaging so it feels like I'm getting more for my money as there's less packaging related product waste. With Primer Potion, I had to jump through hoops to get to the product once I had used the first third of it due to the cute but completely impractical packaging. Shadow Insurance comes in a soft squeeze tube that makes getting the very last of it a breeze. For that alone, I absolutely can say this product is easily the best of the two. I'll definitely repurchase.

    Urban Decay Ultraglide Lip Gloss

    Love everything but the packaging!

This is one awesome gloss. Comes in fabulous, wearable colors; has great shine; feels nice and smooth on; lasts reasonably well without getting too sticky; smells and tastes great! Each gloss has it's own scent and flavor, and they're all "lick your lips" yummy. My only complaint is the packaging. For reasons I've yet to understand, I don't get along with squeeze tubes for lipgloss. They work well as far as application goes as you can apply them without getting your fingers dirty, but they don't travel as well as some other types of packaging. Nearly every tube of gloss I've ever had with the type of packaging ends up making a mess in my purse at some point, either by leaking out from under the cap or from the sealed end. The only exception to this has been Maybelline's Shinylicious gloss. This doesn't happen for everyone so I'm assuming it's at least in part my fault, but I'd still rather these came in different packaging.

    Urban Decay Eyeshadow

Some of the best eyeshadows on the market

Lovely eyeshadows, the jewel of the Urban Decay line. While there are a few glittery eyeshadows that are messy and difficult to work with (such as all of the "Midnight Cowboy" shades and some of the other older glittery ones), overall Urban Decay has some of the best eyeshadows I've ever worked with. On a lot of them, the texture is so luxe and rich they almost feel creamy. The pigmentation is incredible, their blendability flawless and they last all day. Their color offerings are awesome too. Plenty of bold, fun shades. I'd give these a perfect 10 if it weren't for the messiness of some of their older glittery shadows. Midnight Cowboy, for instance, is a gorgeous pinky champagne that would make an incredible highlighter but it has some of the worst glitter fallout I've ever experienced. It gets all over you by the time you're finished. I like glitter all right, but if I can't control where it goes it's more of a nuisance than it ought to be. There are lots of glitterless shadows offered by this brand though, so don't let tales of Urban Decay shadows turning people into disco balls scare you away from trying them. There are some real beauties to be had that don't have that shortcoming.

  • Urban Decay Deluxe Eyeshadow

    Urban Decay Deluxe Eyeshadow

Great eyeshadow but not necessarily "deluxe"

I own a few of these are really like them. Great shades that are richly pigmented, soft and smooth, long wearing and very blendable. However, apart from the packaging and the higher price, I'm not sure how they're more "deluxe" than Urban Decay's normal shadows which are already wonderful. There's more product in these than the normal eyeshadow so the higher price isn't a turnoff, but it's still a bit puzzling. Also, while the packaging is adorable I've found it to be less durable than that of the normal eyeshadow. The lid consists of a sticker on the lid with a thick plastic covering over it and that plastic part is often prone to coming off. That doesn't really affect the product, but it makes the packaging less attractive as it starts to look cheap. Still I wouldn't hesitate to buy one of these again, they're great eye shadows.

    Urban Decay Lipstick

    Great colors, awful taste

I'm very ambivalent about Urban Decay's lipsticks. On one hand, they have some very gorgeous colors in some very flattering finishes. "Wanted" is the prettiest sheer berry lipstick I've ever tried. They go on smoothly, feel fantastic on and wear pretty well for a lipstick. Not longwearing or smudge/transfer resistant by any means, but they last about what you'd expect any decent lipstick to, no more and no less. But unfortunately, they've got clunky and impractical packaging, smell obnoxious, taste vile and are ridiculously overpriced. $22 for a lipstick is more than I'd expect from Urban Decay, and while it's a pretty good lipstick, it's not nice enough to warrant the price tag especially when compared to some of its competitors. It's not as expensive as Dior, NARS or Chanel, but it's substantially more expensive than Stila, Benefit, Clinique, Too Faced or MAC. The plastic purple packaging is appealing at first, but like a lot of this brand's packaging, becomes an annoyance once the cute factor wears off. The tube is thicker and heavier than it needs to be and the dagger at the bottom of the tube hinders storage as it prevents you from being about stand it up right side up (which is how the sticker would show) or with the cap off. It also means that if you carry it around in your pocket, you do so at your own risk, because that dagger can hurt if it starts poking you in the thigh. Finally, the taste and smell of these lipsticks is the worst I've ever experienced. The smell itself isn't bad per say, but it smells more strongly than a lipstick should and isn't completely pleasant as it's sort of sickly sweet. The taste, however, is unequivocally awful. I'm not sensitive to the taste of lipsticks or glosses, and I'm not constantly licking my lips or anything, but it's hard to ignore the fact that these lipsticks have a terrible chemical flavor that I've never encountered in another lipstick. It almost tastes like insect repellent. I can't imagine how it got past the testers this way. I don't know what's causing it, but whatever it is they can do without it as there are loads of other lipsticks on the market that are just as nice but don't taste like something that could land you in the ER if you consumed it. Overall, I'd repurchase these if they come out with a really great color, but they won't be the first place I look if I'm trying to find a new lipstick.

  • MAC Pigment

    MAC Pigment

Spoiled me for all other loose eye shadow!

Love, love, love MAC pigments. They're highly pigmented, versatile, and a good value for the money. They might look expensive, but a little jar is more than most people will ever be able to use as a little goes a very long way. They're also generally cheaper than other eye shadows when you compare the price gram for gram. They come in many fabulous colors and can be mixed with others to create many more. They can be used dry or wet for eye shadow, mixed with clear mascara for brightly colored lashes, added to clear polish to make your own shades of nail polish, mixed into lipgloss or balm for a custom made lip color or even mixed into body lotion for a homemade body shimmer. The texture of these is far superior to any other loose eye shadow I've tried. It's spoiled me to the point where I can't tolerate mineral eye shadow as they seem so disappointing in comparison in terms of pigmentation and color. I love too that these can be easily pressed into empty eye shadow pans if using loose eye shadow is messier than you can handle. Just mix with alcohol and spoon into an empty eyeshadow pan and let it dry for 24 hours and it's perfect. Applies just as beautifully that way as it did when you used it straight from the jar. My only complaint is that I wish these came in smaller sizes for a lower price. While for what you get, MAC pigments are a tremendous value, for most users a jar is much more than you'll ever need. I'd like to be able to buy pigments in smaller sizes so I can afford to buy more colors. The size is probably a plus for makeup professionals though, as they're the target audience for this product.
