  • Herbal Essences Set Me Up Mousse

This is an excellent mousse for the price. It adds volume without leaving hair too stiff or sticky, and it helps hair hold a style nicely. It also smells really good (anyone who hugs me comments on how good my hair smells!). I recommend this highly.

  • Nivea A Kiss of Shimmer Radiant Lip Care

This chapstick-like balm moisturizes pretty well, but it's nothing really impressive. The color is a super-light frosty pink, and I found it's just too pale for me to wear alone. In fact, if worn without color underneath, the shimmer particles settle into lines and look really bad once this stuff dries out (within 2 hours), so I layer it over lipstick as a shimmery topcoat. It doesn't seem to negatively affect the length of wear of the lipstick. This stuff is ok, but because it's such an average moisturizer, I doubt I'll re-purchase it when I run out.

  • John Frieda Weather Works Weather-Proofing Daily Conditioner

I have naturally straight hair, and no true issues with frizz, but sometimes I flat-iron it for a truly pin-straight look. I thought this conditioner (along with the matching shampoo) would help me really keep that style smooth and shiny throughout the day. Not so much. The conditioner isn't thick, like I'd expect it to be. It actually had the consistency of many light, volumizing conditioners I've used. It didn't seem to leave my hair very well-moisturized. For this reason, my ends didn't flatten down as well as usual with the iron, and they appeared sort of dry. I can imagine that this would be an even more problematic issue for someone with naturally curly or frizz-prone hair. I wouldn't recommend this.

  • Sally Hansen Healing Foot Creme

This is a good, effective foot cream that absorbs quickly and softens calluses. It has a light, pleasant fragrance and (for some reason) tiny shimmer particles. A little bit goes a long way. I'll buy this one again.

  • C.O. Bigelow Mentha Lip Shine Spearmint

While this tastes good, the mint felt slightly irritating after a short while. I don't know if it's because the product caused me to bite and chew my lips (bad habit), but this stuff didn't seem to last very long and left me with drier than usual lips when it wore off. I have friends who love this, but I just didn't like it much. The Victoria's Secret Beauty Rush gloss in Mint was better for me.

    Bonne Bell Lip Smacker

    Childhood favorite still rocks!

I had a pencil box full of these when I was 10, and I still find myself buying them 17 years later. I find them to moisturize better than chapstick. Some of the darker ones give a slight tint to your lips, and they all add a nice shine. Not only that - they're just plain fun to use! The Dr. Pepper flavor, while I don't like the drink, has been my favorite one for many years.

  • Sally Hansen 18 Hour Lip Treatment

Sally Hansen 18 Hour Lip Treatment

    18 hours? Not even close!

This lip "treatment" looked pretty in the tube, and I was thrilled with the look when I first applied it. However, the gloss started to slightly irritate my lips after about half an hour, and this lead to uncomfortable dryness by the one-hour mark - even some peeling! I tried it again a few more times with the same result. This stuff doesn't last, and can lead to chapped lips.

  • Urban Decay Eyeshadow

    Urban Decay Eyeshadow

Not at all worth the price

I received this shadow in "Crash" as part of a gift years ago (back when I could totally pull off metallic purple eyeshadow). But I'd swipe a brush across the shadow in the pan, and tons of powder and metallic flakes would fall off to the side. It behaved almost like a loose powder (which I hate). I'd go to dust it on my lids, and it would flake all over my cheeks. Using a sponge applicator helped slightly, but it still made a mess. I thought I could at least use it wet, as a liner, but water seemed to bead-up on the surface of the powder. This stuff is sooooo expensive to be so problematic. I'll stick with L'Oreal HIP shadow.

  • Avon Advanced Solutions Eye Perfector

This is a very good, inexpensive product to reduce eye puffiness in the morning. In addition, it actually seems to improve the application of under-eye concealer, and doesn't cause mascara and liner to smudge througout the day. I have sensitive skin around my eyes, and this didn't irritate me at all. When it's on sale, you can get 2 jars for $10 or $12. I stock up!

  • Avon Super Shape Anti-Cellulite & Stretch Mark Cream

This product does seem to diminish the appearance of cellulite and stretch marks, but only while it's on. Shower it off, and you're back where you started. Honestly, though, that's exactly what I expected - nothing permanently gets rid of cellulite! It does tighten and firm skin while you're wearing it, and that's enough to make it worth the $7.00 a tube that I paid. Because the cream doesn't permanently "cure" cellulite or stretch marks, there's no reason to apply it twice daily, as directed. I think that's just nonsense to get us to use the product up faster. I do have to say that the smell of this stuff is a major drawback - it's a slightly medicinal, chemical smell that's clearly masked with a floral fragrance. It takes a long time to absorb, too. A really long time.
