  • Avon ULTRA COLOR RICH Lipstick

It's hard enough to buy lipstick based on what you see in a catalogue or on a computer screen. Avon makes it even more difficult with this formula, as the color applies quite differently than the way it looks. I bought a number of pale shades (for layering over darker lipsticks to lighten them and add dimension), and they were so sheer that they weren't visible. They weren't advertised as sheer shades, and the term "ultra color rich" suggests saturated color, no matter how light the tone. The darker lipsticks that I bought applied much more pink than they appeared in the tube, and were also too sheer to last. Given that I bought a bunch of these, I was pretty annoyed.

  • L'Oreal Paris HIP High Intensity Pigments Intensely Moisturizing Lipcolor

This lipstick is super-creamy and smells like candy. It's almost like a lipstick and a gloss combined. For this reason, it doesn't last very long. The color is really rich, but there are very few color choices in the line (most of them pretty dark). It feels nice on, but I wouldn't buy it again because of the "not great for pale chicks" color choices and the fact that it wears off so fast.

  • L'Oreal Paris True Match Naturale Mineral Foundation

I've been dissatisfied with a number of mineral foundations so far, but this is the worst! It looked as though I'd dusted metallic shimmer powder all over my face. Yes, there was significant coverage, but it settled in immediately and emphasized large pores and lines that I didn't even know I had! I'd like my skin to look somewhat like skin, and it didn't with this on. It somehow looked shiny and chalky at the same time - very mask-like. It smells bad, too. I washed my face soon after applying this product, unwilling to even try wearing it for a full day. I've since tried it again, using it more sparingly or in combination with other powders (I just hate to throw stuff away), but I can't make this work. Any amount of this powder on my face ruins the whole look. I think this is the first L'Oreal product that I've ever disliked.

  • Thicker Fuller Hair Revitalizing Shampoo
    5.0

    Thicker Fuller Hair Revitalizing Shampoo

    Average Volumizing Shampoo

I did not experience any noticeable "thickening" of my hair after using this shampoo. It's on par with most drugstore brands' "volumizing" offerings. It cleans hair without weighing it down...and that's about it. It doesn't seem to moisturize at all, which I need because my hair's highlighted. I think the smell could use some improvement, too. It smells very "green", like leaves, or something (weel, I suppose some people like that stuff). For the price, there are better volumizing shampoos than this.

  • Sally Hansen Cornsilk Classic Translucent Naturally Sheer Pressed Powder

This has been a favorite powder of mine for 8 years. It's the best oil-absorbing one that I've tried (and I've tried most of the drugstore brands). I use the trasluscent "No Color" shade for setting makeup in the morning and for mid-day touch-ups. It never looks cakey after multiple applications and the cover never darkens. The price is unbeatable, too. I'd recommend this to anyone with fair skin.

  • John Frieda Sheer Blonde Thickening Perfection Volumizing Rinse-Out Treatment

This lemon-scented treatment is like an in-shower styling aid. Once hair is dry, it's less limp than it would be on it's own. I don't know if I really noticed any thickening, but I did have an easier time achieving volume. I have to say that I don't use this daily, because it seems a bit drying. I'm waiting to try it in summer weather (I bought this mid-winter, in Michigan), because it seems like it would help my fine, straight hair stand up to humidity a bit better.

  • Cetaphil Antibacterial Gentle Cleansing Bar

I tried this soap when my skin freaked out and decided to become red, dry and itchy in response to all my old favorite products. I'm acne-prone, so I thought the fact that this is antibacterial would help that problem while helping my skin calm down. This soap definitely eased the irritation and softened my skin. Within 2 days, the peeling had stopped, and I thought I'd found my new favorite product. After 2 months, however, I realized that my acne was quite a bit worse. I couldn't ignore the fact that this soap left a slight residue, no matter how long I rinsed. I've since read that bar soaps are really not the best option for acne, and I've found a good sensitive-skin cleanser that my skin can handle. This would be a good product if it weren't for the breakouts, so someone with sensitive, non-acne-prone skin should definitely try it.

  • Clean & Clear Foaming Facial Cleanser for Sensitive Skin

Since my skin's suddenly become irritated by every acne-treatment product in existence, I've had to stop using all my old favorite "harsh" cleansers. I tried the Cetaphil bar soap that all derms recommend, and it made me break out. Then I found this. It's wonderful! It doesn't irritate my skin in the slightest, it removes all traces of makeup (I'm not referring to eye makeup), and the only breakouts I have are the usual monthly catastrophes (I wasn't expecting a miracle here). I'll continue to buy this cleanser.

  • Garnier Skin Renew Daily Regenerating Lotion SPF 15

This is the best new moisturizer I've tried in a long time. I have easily-irritated, acne-prone, combination skin, and it's tough to find a moisturizer that actually DOES something without causing me problems. This stuff works. Over the past few weeks, it's made my skin smoother and somehow prettier-looking (is this what they mean when they say "brighter"?). It's not at all greasy on my nose, doesn't allow for peeling in my problem dry spots, hasn't caused any redness on my cheeks, and definitely hasn't made me break-out (it may have actually helped that problem, too). I'd recommend this to absolutely everyone.

  • L'Oreal Paris True Match Super Blendable Powder

I'm pale, but I didn't think that I was so pale that the lightest shade in a product line that boasts matches for every skin tone would be too dark for me. I used N1, the lightest neutral shade, and applied it with a brush (as opposed to the sponge it comes with) for lighter coverage. After a few minutes, it was apparent that the powder was slightly darker than my skin tone. Not, "Oh, my God, I have to take this off!" dark, but certainly not a "True Match". As for how the powder holds up during wear, I got shiny within 3 hours (semi-oily skin in a Michigan winter). I've since mashed this powder up in a plastic container and mixed it with a teaspoon of cornstarch to lighten the color and absorb oil. While that destroyed it's portability, it works well for my morning application. I won't buy this one again.
