  • Origins Gloomaway Grapefruit Body Souffle

Origins gets some stars for the unique fragrance of this body moisturizer: citrus-y and spicy, but they failed at everything else. From the clunky jar packaging that jeopardizes sanitation to the moisture-zapping "souffle" the jar contains to the laughable price tag, this product is a loser. When I used it on my hands, arms, and legs, I immediately wiped it off and re-moisturized with Lush's Dream Cream. It felt gross and zapped my skin of what little moisture it had.

    MAC Select Sheer/Loose

For a flawless finish over makeup or alone

I wear MAC Select Sheer/Loose in NC5, over my "finished" face. Weightless and comfortable (you can't feel it on your skin), it blends into my skin so beautifully, I often wear it in place of my ususal foundation. It really is very sheer, so even if the color you pick up doesn't match your skin exactly, you still won't be able to tell you're wearing powder. I especially like to dust this powder under my eyes to take the shine off my concealer and even out the color.

  • BareMinerals All-Over Face Color

I've never been a fan of mineral makeup, and a sample of this powder did nothing to change my mind. It has some sparkle to it, and gave my skin a pinkish cast. Even with the lightest of applications, you could tell I was wearing powder.

    Bourjois Invisible Lip Liner

    Hurts more than it helps

I consider the $5 I spent on this (I rummaged it out of an Ulta clearance bin) to be $4.99 too much. The pointy tip makes it easy to outline your lips with, but my lipstick bled and smeared around the edges worse than it does without lip liner.

    Shu Uemura Rouge Unlimited

Matte is awesome, creme is not

The pop-art quality of the lucite container, raspberry scent, and the thoughtful slant of the lipstick, which facilitates a perfect application, are impressive. However, the creme formulation lipstick is one of the most short-lived I have ever used. It lasts a few minutes at most. I have to reapply constantly when I wear it, which is awful because you get very little product for the appalling sum of $23. The matte formulation, on the other hand, is perfection. All of the colors are gorgeous, and the silken formula clings to lips with a flawless matte finish of excellent color payoff. And it lasts for hours.

  • L'Oreal Paris Vive Pro Hydra Gloss Moisturizing Shampoo for Very Dry/Damaged Hair

It's been a long time since I bought a drugstore shampoo. I've been indulging in the prestige brands since well before college. A recent round of layoffs at my office had me spooked, so I bought this instead of the Kiehl's product I'd had my eye on. I'm glad I did! You get so much product for your money, and this stuff lathers up great and is free of Sodium Lauryl Sulfate and silicones, two ingredients that do terrible things to my dry, fine, color-treated hair. I've been so pleased with how my hair looks and feels after using this product. I'll be picking up another bottle when my current one runs out.

  • M.A.C. Studio Nail Lacquer

There's nothing special about the formula of MAC's polishes. In general, they require 1 -3 coats, dry quickly, and don't chip for a few days. What's really special about these little beauties is the colors. The shades are always modern, unique, and right on trend. When I buy a MAC polish, I do so because there aren't any dupes even remotely close. The packaging is great, too. The caps are big and rubbery, making cracking them open quick and easy, even when it's glued down with dried polish.

    M.A.C. Lustreglass

    My favorite MAC lip gloss

Lustreglass is my favorite of MAC's lip glosses. The colors are sheer without being poorly pigmented, so they look great on their own or can really transform the look of a lipstick you're getting bored with. The formula is super duper shiny and so thick it survived a shower. I wish MAC would come out with a broader color selection and include more Lustreglasses in its LE collections.

    Nars Lip Gloss

    A lipstick in gloss's clothing

The coverage this lip gloss provides is fantastic. Although I love the look of gloss, but my lips are very pigmented so the gloss's color doesn't show up well. Nars glosses go on thick and shiny, providing opaque or near-opaque coverage that makes for a great color pay-off. The thick formula also makes for long wear.

  • MAC 239 Eye Shader Brush

This little workhorse of a brush is all you really need to achieve a flawless eye look. It has the usual dense bristles and soft feel that make for a great brush, but what makes the 239 really special is it's shape. I use it to line my lower lashes, highlight my brow bone, and apply and blend multiple shadows (cream or powder) all over my eye. It's my right hand and I love it.
