  • Avon SKIN SO SOFT Satin Glow Daily Body Moisturizer

This product actually comes in a lotion and also a gel; I purchased the gel. I don't normally order Avon products to be honest since they aren't "readily available" at any store. I have used A LOT of self-tanners, gradual tanners and bronzers. I would say this one is right in the middle; not the best but definitely not the worst. This is what I call a "expedited gradual tanner;" it takes about 3 days to get the color versus 7 for a gradual tanner and 1 for a self-tanner. I love the quicker gradual tanners because you still have the benefit of less odor and streaking, and easier application (due to less immediate color) but it doesn't take a whole 7 days for the effect. On the downside, there is a mild self-tanner smell after it dries, and before it dries it has a strong perfume-y smell and I could smell a bit of alcohol, probably because it is a gel and all. On the plus side, even though it is a gel, I would describe it as a baby oil gel with really nice moisturizing properties. Ocean Potion Ever Glow is my go to gradual tanner, but for a faster look, this isn't a bad option. I also found the color to be natural.

  • Olay ProX Advanced Cleansing System

    Olay ProX Advanced Cleansing System

    Darn, I wish I didn't like this! ;)

My mom bought one and loved it, so she bought one for me, too! Thanks, mom. :) I was hoping I wouldn't like it; I use the Olay mico kit and it is faaabulous. I also use Clinique 7 Day Scrub almost daily, so I know the importance of exfoliating and refining the skin/pores, in particular with oily/combo skin which is exactly what I have. However, since I have a good routine down and love my skin, I thought why would I need yet another product? I was wrong. After the first time I used this, I could feel a difference. My skin was smoother and looked both cleaner and clearer. However, it is still a bit of a pain in the butt to use a brush daily, if not 2x a day. Especially on mornings when I am in a hurry! I think I will start using in the evenings when I have more time for a little "me time." I also wasn't crazy about the cleanser that came with it (it had a strange smell and consistency), but my mom is using another cleanser all together and it works just fine, so I will do the same. I would definitely recommend, especially if you have oilier skin I think this will really help for those breakouts and blackheads, especially around the nose and chin. The brush is very gentle so no need to worry about scratching your skin; it is really made for all types of skin and you will be able to tell a difference. It is also a WAY better price point than Clarisonic, which is ridiculously overpriced. Olay often has coupons in the paper too, if you are on a budget like me. :) Happy exfoliating! Say "hello" to new skin.

  • Essie Top Coat
    6.0

    Essie Top Coat

Ehhh.... in the trash it goes!

I really needed a new top coat and decided to buy a little bit of "luxury." I normally buy NYC or Wet N Wild polish whenever I actually have to buy any at all. Usually, I just use the polish at my nail salon and rarely have to do any touch ups in between. I bought the Essie No Chips Ahead top coat and was completely unimpressed. The price tag for this polish was around $8 and I was expecting to be really impressed by it. I prefer a nice, shiny, glossy finish and this was more "natural;" not quite matte, but far from glossy and this was after 2 coats. I also thought the formula was really thin; too thick is not good either, but this was almost watery. It reminded me of drying drops that you can add to each nail to make the polish dry faster. I definitely wouldn't be this top coat again, and frankly, if they can't satisfy me with their top coat, I am probably not going to try any of their nail polishes either, even "ballet slippers." Back to my NYC Extra Shiny Top Coat for $.93. It is 5 star in my book. :)

  • Ocean Potion Ever Glow Daily Moisturizer

I am a bronze goddess and I self-tan religiously; I have my routine down and the products that I have found to work the best and at the best cost. This product is a winner! (Don't believe me? Google it and see all the fab reviews!) I came across it and saw the reviews, and had to try it. It is by far the best gradual tanner I have ever tried and I don't know why I was letting it sit in my bathroom closet for 2 months while I finished my last bottle of another product! I was missing out big time. One of my favorite aspects of this product is that first and foremost, it is an EXCELLENT moisturizer. It leaves my skin soft hours later, and when I put it on at night, even the next day. I haven't really seen this before. Jergens is probably the most common, and I have used this product many times before, but even Jergens doesn't REALLY moisturize; not like Ocean Potion. It has a whippy, creamy texture and just feels luxurious. When applying, there is no self-tanner smell; it's a cross between bubble gum and an orangecicle/dreamcicle. It wasn't my favorite at first, but I have grown accustom to it. The product works so well, that frankly I don't even care. :) I usually apply it at night and the smell is gone by the morning. There isn't any real self-tanner smell unless I go overboard by applying so much product that it leaves my skin soaking wet; I am so impressed with the moisturizer aspect, sometimes I go overboard! One of the other best things about this product is that there are no streaks or missed spots, or orangey color. It is very natural and one of the easiest gradual tanners to apply; mostly because it takes about 3-5 days to see color, and full impact in 5-7. I have medium colored skin (think J Aniston) and the color just looks beautiful. I can see this product easily working with all shades of skin because of the color tone achieved and the ability to layer this product so well. I will use this all year long and then amp it up with a self-tanner in the summer months. I have only been able to find this product at Wal-Mart so far, so stock up when you see it! It is a huge bottle and was UNDER $4!! Amazing. I also like that it has a pump; makes it so easy. I would highly recommend.

  • Too Faced Shadow Insurance Primer

I would agree with another reviewer; this and Urban Decay are about the best you can get. It also comes in a variety of colors. I have been using the "Candlelight" color and it is really pretty. I would just caution against using too much otherwise your eyelid will appear to be too "luminous" or "glittery" (with this color, anyway), or the creaser can end up creasing itself (hence the 8 rating). However, a little goes a VERY long way. It runs around $20 and this tube will last me the year; maybe even longer! What a bargain when you think about it. The Candlelight is a gold, luminous hue; very pretty on warmer skin tones and in Summer months especially. Although it can sometimes crease itself (I have actually had that experience with all decreasers) it keeps my exceptionally oily eyelids dry and my shadow and liners in place. I would definitely recommend.

  • Aveda Smooth Infusion Style-Prep Smoother

I love Aveda products and have been a loyal consumer; however, I just don't get the "style prep" products. It reminds me of a primer for foundation; if you are using a good quality foundation and the right formula for your skin type, a primer shouldn't be needed. This product helps to remove frizzies, but does nothing else. If you find a good quality product to eliminate frizzies, smooth AND straighten, you would use only one product rather than two. Although this is more helpful than the Be Curly Style Prep, I was unimpressed and would rather stick with a product that can do more than one thing. I just want it to do it; not "prep" my hair for the "real" product.

This product helps to remove frizzies, but does nothing else. If you find a good quality product to eliminate frizzies, smooth AND accentuate curls, you would usually only one product rather than two. In my opinion, it is a waste of money. Go for the big guns that can do more than just one thing.

  • Stila Lip Glaze
    3.0

    Stila Lip Glaze

    Stila "LipPAINT" anyone?

I received a pack of 3 Stila Lip Glaze's for Christmas and never would have thought that a lipgloss could be so disappointing, especially from a department store. It was more matte than gloss and a bit sticky, but the worst part was the pigment. It wasso pigmented it was like applying paint to my mouth. I could have turned off the lights and my lips would still be seen! I prefer a shiny, soft and sheer gloss and this was not. Plus, 2 of the colors were beautiful spring and summer colors in the tube, but I couldn't believe how thick and dense the formula was. Additionally, after about a week of attempting to make these work, I noticed that the lettering was coming off of the tube like it was $1 lipgloss and not from a department store. Definitely not for me. As a plus, if you like long wearing lip products (I don't) this might be a good option. Because it was so matte and like paint, it tends to stay on awhile and the TINIEST bit goes a long way as far as color is concerned; however, with that tiny bit for color, you will not get any moisture from it.

  • L'Oreal Paris Voluminous Power Volume 24 Hour Waterproof Mascara

My experience has been that the shape of the brush means just about EVERYTHING when it comes to a mascara. This brush is spiky and as a result, I ended up with spiky eyelashes! Not cute and certainly not pretty. I can't attest to the formula too much, since I couldn't get past the medieval instrument my lashes turned into, but from the other reviewer it sounds like the formula isn't all that waterproof. I bought the waterproof version since my eyelids tend to get oily and it transfers shadow and mascara all over the place. Out of drugstore mascaras, I seem to have the best luck with Maybelline and I will be sticking with that.

  • Wet n Wild MegaLast Lip Color

First off, I have to say that I DO not like any long wear lipstick or lipgloss. I bought this completely in error not realizing that it wasn't a normal lipgloss. I bought itin Pink Perfection and although the color was pretty, the lipgloss was horrible. However, I am still giving it a 3 since it was really my error for buying a type of product that I have never liked to begin with. :) I prefer a shiny, wet lipgloss that is the exact opposite of sticky, tacky, drying, matte, etc. For example, one of my favorite drug store glosses is Cover Girl Wetslicks. This is nothing like that. If you love lip gloss and enjoy the shiny, wet, slick feel, this product is not for you.
