    E.L.F. Kabuki Brushes

Great, but no longer looks like the one pictured here!

ELF's Studio Kabuki brush is great! I do think that it's important to note that it no longer looks like the one pictured on this page. I ordered my brush about two months ago, and it's a lot more fluffy, has a slightly wider base and white coloured bristle tips. This brush is amazing. I got it during their half off sale, which means that I only paid $3.00, and I can't say enough about it. It is extremely fluffy, very soft, doesn't shed at all, perfect for loose powders, perfect for light powder coverage, but you can stipple with it as well if you need a bit more coverage. You can also use it to blend your blush and contouring products; it is soft enough to leave all in place and just blend it enough to give you that flawless look. It's just very versatile and easy to use. I swear, it's so soft, you won't believe it. I just couldn't stop touching it in the beginning. So I really love everything about it, and I honestly can't believe that I've used it every day for the last month and a half, and it hasn't shed a single hair. I have spend a lot of money on brushes, and have some higher end kabuki brushes, which hasn't been praised by me nearly as much as this ELF's Kabuki brush. And by the way, if you are planning on purchasing a few things from ELF, and you are making that purchase on their website, if you don't see a sale going on, give it a couple of weeks and you are guaranteed to get at least 25% off your purchase. They always have some sort of deal going on, and shipping to the US is often free as well. ;)

    Not very impressed

I know that it's only a dollar, but I've heard so many good reviews about this brush, that I was I might have been possibly expecting too much... So I don't know if my not-so-positive review has anything to do with my expectations. To be honest with you, I like almost all of ELF's Studio brushes, use their powder and kabuki brushes every single day, but this one was just too rough for me. I have a medium size eye lids, so they are not too small or too big, and I figured I should end up loving this, but I just find it kind of bulky and rough and it's shaped in such a way that you need to kind of press on your lid in order to apply the colour, and because it's a bit rough, I find it even more unpleasant when I press it on. When I used it with a type of eye shadow that's very smooth and silky in consistency, I almost felt like apologizing to my shadow, because I had "scraped" so much of it all, having forgotten that the brush is so stiff. In my opinion, you are better off spending a 2 dollars more and going for one of the "Studio" line brushes, such as the "Eyeshadow C" brush. And I'm recommending the "C" brush only because it has a similar shape to this "Essential" line brush. If you are looking for a differently shaped inexpensive eye shadow brush, you also have other options in ELF's "Studio" line. In general I find that the brushes from the "Studio" line have softer bristles, but enough firmness as well, when it comes to their powder, all over complexion, or stippling brushes. So once again, I find myself being a black sheep because I see how many people have liked this brush, but I have to remain honest to myself and others and thought it might be helpful to some people as well. ;)

    Average

I've heard a lot of good things about this blush on YouTube, so I decided to give it a try and ordered five different shades: "Blushing Rose", "Candid Coral", "Giddy Gold", "Peachy Keen" and "Tickled Pink"... All of these except for "Giddy Gold" had pretty decent reviews. My personal experience with these blushes is not that great. The only colour I occasionally use is "Blushing Rose" and even that is only because I don't want all of them to go to waste, since I never touch the lighter colours. So if I know it's going to be a very "average" day for me, then I use this "average" (in my opinion) blush. What I don't like about it is that it's powdery and not well pigmented, especially the lighter colours. I know I will never use the lighter colours because in order for me to see any colour on my cheeks I would have to apply a crazy amount of this, and since it isn't buildable and is powdery - it will look ridiculous. This also makes is no very long-lasting, so even the colour that I do occasionally use needs to be retouched throughout the day. The only thing this blush has going for it is that it does go on very smoothly and it doesn't look patchy at all. So maybe if you are extremely pale, and want just a hint of colour on your cheeks, this might work for you. And yes, I know it's only $3.00, but if you are on a budget, put in another 3 or so dollars (depending on where you live) and go with "Revlon" Colorstay or something like that. You will use less of it, and it will last you double as much because it has a longer staying power. So no, I can't say that I would recommend this blush to anyone, in spite of the fact that there are a lot of ELF products I do like and use.

  • Lancome Color Design 5 Pan Eyeshadow Palette

I have this in "Gris Fatale" (600), "Petal Pusher" (207) and "Mauve Chérie" (301). My favourite one for every day is the "Gris Fatale". It just has enough colours in it to go either neutral or a bit more intense for the evening, and the bottom colour, when used as a liner, works very well and is long-lasting. I find myself reaching for it almost every day, because I use the #1 (all over base colour) with other shadows as well. Texture wise, I find that the shades, containing some sparkle are just a tiny little bit powdery, but everything else is just perfect. They are very well pigmented, last all day (especially with a primer underneath) and true to colour. The colour you see is the colour you really get. I guess the only reason I'm giving this 9 stars is because it is a quite expensive products, so the fact that the colours with glitter are somewhat powdery makes you use more of it than you really need to. Other than that, liked everything about it and will definitely continue using it and recommending to others as well.

Maybelline New York Eye Studio Color Explosion

One of my favourite eye shadows

This, together with the "Eyestudio" quads is one of my favourite eye shadows from "Maybelline"... They are not dry at all, very easily blendable, very pigmented, long lasting (especially if you use them with a primer), and very true to colour. Even the lighter colours transfer very well. I find that with some drug store eye shadows, you can never be too sure with the lighter shades, but these really work. All of them will look exactly the same colour on your eye lids. The sparkles are very find, so even if you are someone who isn't crazy about glitter or sparkles, these won't upset you too much because the sparkles are hardly noticeable, when you apply the shadow... It gives you more of a glow than a sparkle... My favourite colour combo in this line (for an every day look) is "Caffeine Rush"... I use it almost every day... And even if I don't use all the colours, I'll use the darker colours for my crease (combines with colours from another palette), or the highlight, so it's very versatile and practical. Would definitely recommend this to all.

  • Maybelline New York Age Rewind Eraser Treatment Concealer

Wow, I feel like I'm the only one giving this a bad review, but I have to be honest nevertheless... ;( My "HG" concealer of all times (I've been using it for the last 12 years) is "Lancome" long-lasting under-eye concealer... But every once in a while I will try something else, just because I hear so many people talking about it, and I start getting a feeling that I'm missing out on some sort of miracle product... Such was the case with this one... First of all, it took me forever to get anything at all out of it. Then when I finally put it on, I realized that the coverage is very poor, and to top it all off, it oxidized almost immediately, so in a couple of hours not only I had slightly orange under-eye circles, but it settled into my fine lines as well. I do have to say that I never use a primer under my eyes (only for my eye shadow), so maybe if I had tried it with a primer it wouldn't have settled as much. But it still doesn't change the fact that I didn't like the coverage and it oxidized. And I don't want to have to put on a ton of product in order for it to cover my dark circles. In my opinion, it might be good for someone with very few fine lines around their eyes, almost unnoticeable discolouration under their eyes and a perfectly neutral PH... Do you know anyone like that??? :):):) Anyways, I'm sorry if you love this product and had to read my review, but this is just my own experience with it. If you have it and it works for you - I'm glad that it does... If anyone wants to know, I'm in my mid-thirties, my dark circles are extremely noticeable, so I do need a concealer with very good coverage, and I don't like anything that will settle into lines, or needs to be retouched during the day... So no, I didn't like this at all, to the point that I didn't even give it away, just trashed it and never looked back...

  • Maybelline New York ExpertWear Eye Shadow Singles

I have to say that I purchased the single eye shadow because I love the "Eyestudio" quads so much, and I was hoping that the quality would be the same. Completely off! The texture is very different, the pigmentation is very low; you need to apply a very heavy coat of this to see the colour you thought you were purchasing. I have this in "Chic Naturals" and I really tried to make it work with me. I used it with a primer (tried different brands of primers as well), without a primer, on top of a moisturiser and nothing worked for me. It's just too powdery and dry and non-pigmented. Can't say anything good about my experience with this eye shadow. If I were to recommend this to someone, then I would recommend it to a pre-teen (if it's even okay to be wearing makeup at that age) or to someone who wants just a hint of colour on their lid, so that it's almost unnoticeable. But even for those purposes you could find a better product and apply a very small quantity of it, so my best advice - don't bother with it...

  • Physicians Formula Mineral Wear Talc-Free Mineral Liquid Foundation

I normally like "Physicians Formula" products, and I love some of the blushes and powders form the "Mineral Wear" line, but this foundation was a total disappointment to me... If I'm not mistaken, it will soon be (or already is) discontinued. It was about 80% off at my local drug store about a month ago, and the sales lady said that they are "probably reformulating the product or changing the packaging"... Personally, I hope that they will replace it with something else. Why? It is incredibly thick. And when I say thick, I mean really thick, thicker than some of the concealers I have. I can see how someone just starting to use foundation might not understand that this is not a very good product, but if you are someone who've tried a few - you will try it and will never reach for it again. Even if you want very heavy coverage, it's still too thick. A good heavy coverage foundation shouldn't feel like a mask on your face and you should be able to work with it and blend it well enough for it not to be obvious on your face. You will never be able to achieve a flawless look with this foundation. It's also just a tiny little bit pasty (or chalky), which makes it even more noticeable, especially if you have any dry spots or other skin imperfections. And to top it all of, it oxidized almost immediately on my skin. So no, I would not recommend this to anyone, not even as a concealer, because it will turn orange. The only reason I gave this product four start is because I don't want to bring down the whole line and I do think that it's important to point out that in general the "Miniral Wear" line is very decent.

  • Maybelline New York Illegal Length Fiber Extensions Washable Mascara

Once again, "Maybelline" mascara doesn't disappoint me. This mascara does well what it claim to do, which is lengthening your lashes. If you absolutely need volume as well, then I wouldn't recommend this for you, but if you are just looking to extend your lashes a bit, then you will like the effect that this mascara will have. It separates your lashes well, and lengthens them almost immediately. You can, of course, apply two coats for a more defined look, but I personally find one coat enough for a regular day make up. The colour transfers very well, and it doesn't have a sticky, clumpy consistency, which allows it to look natural on your lashes. So if it's length you are after - go for it! ;)

L'Oreal Paris Colour Riche Colour Caresse

Feel so good on the lips!

I got these in "Silky Java" and "Sheer Linen"... "Sheer Linen" is a nude colour and "Silky Java" is a more pronounced kind of neutral colour... To me, it looks like "Sheer Linen", but two levels of colour down, so it still passes for a neutral, but it's not a nude. What I love about these, is that they are SO silky! It's a pleasure to apply on your lips and they feel amazing on. They colour is not thick and chunky, they truly are silky and spread very well. So even if you have slightly chapped lips or your lips are just not perfect (whos lips are, right?), this will not intensify any of our imperfections, which is amazing. It almost conditions your lips at the same time. So great lipstick. The only thing I wish for is that the colour would last a bit longer. I find that it comes off very easily. But then again, I love putting it on so much that it's really not that big of a deal for me. I think everyone should have a least one of these!
