  • MAC 130 Short Duo Fibre Brush

This is the first duo fibre brush from MAC that I have used/purchased and I am in love with it. I wanted this small/short version because I figured it would give me the control I want. When I picked this up (it was the last one at my store!) the MAC lady told me it was her absolute favorite for foundation. I bought this to use for cream blush and highlighter and for that It works wonderfully. Since hearing the MAC girl rave about its foundation application, I had to try it with my foundations too. It didn't disappoint! This gently buffs foundation into the skin beautifully. I was surprised by how quick I can apply my foundation using such a small brush head, but it works so well. Still, I love this for cream blush and cream highlighters because it picks up plenty of product and blends it so nicely on my skin, exactly where I want it. I didn't expect this to be as soft as it is. Prior to this, I was using the Real Techniques Stippling Brush, but MAC's 130 blows Real Techniques out of the water. MAC's version has more densely packed bristles that work much better at picking up product. Granted, the MAC version is four times the price, but I think that if you are into makeup and want the best application, good brushes are vital. Because this can used with liquid, cream and powder products, it is an amazingly versatile brush to add to your arsenal. I love this so much that I am tempted to get a second one!

  • Fresh Sugar Icon Tinted Lip Treatment Sunscreen SPF 15

I have tried the Fresh Sugar Lip Balm in the plain, no-color, and the sheer raspberry color. These are just basic lip balms from what I can tell. They go on a bit waxy which isn't my favorite. They are pretty conditioning but I don't feel like they really penetrate my lips to provide more long lasting benefits. I didn't care for the tinted balm at all. It wasn't much color at all and made me look frumpy. These are lightly scented and smell of lemons. I just would never fork over $22 for this product. People rave about these, but unless there is something major that I am missing, these just seem to be mediocre lip balms in fancy packaging that are extremely overpriced for what they deliver.

  • Bare Escentuals On The Spot Eye Makeup Remover

I got these about a year ago and have had them in my makeup bag ever since. These are perfect for touching up smudged eye makeup or even removal of all eye makeup in a pinch. What's great about these too is they qualify for your airline carry on. You just snap the top and the remover drops down into the other end of the cotton bud. I was surprised to find that these are even less expensive than the Almay ones available in the drugstore. My only pet peeve about these is that sometimes not all of the makeup remover makes its way down to the other end for use. I will continue to buy these so I can have them on hand in my makeup bag and for nights away. What a great makeup innovation!

  • Urban Decay All Nighter Waterproof Makeup Setting Spray

I first tried a mini bottle of this and liked it so much that I bought the big bottle. This works really well at setting my makeup so it doesn't move as much during my long work days. Over the course of the day my makeup usually shifts a bit and it can gather around some dry patches but this spray helps with that. This is better than MAC's Fix Plus at actually setting your makeup and making it last longer. This doesn't have much of a scent which I appreciate as well. The spray also dispenses more evenly than MAC's Fix Plus. I can't give it the full ten stars because my makeup still isn't like new at the end of the day, although it is better than it would be without it. I would purchase this again and I would recommend to anyone who wants to help their makeup last.

  • Juicy Couture Viva La Juicy Eau de Parfum

Juicy Couture Viva La Juicy Eau de Parfum

    Fun and fresh, yet sophisticated

This is my favorite perfume from Juicy and a great all-around scent. The bottle is adorable and would look great on anyone's vanity or dresser. I have enjoyed using this, especially during the spring and summer months. It is a fairly complex fragrance which to me smells both floral and fruity, but without being too sweet. My 62 year old mom sampled this and she liked it so much that she bought the large bottle. I love that it smells slightly different on her than it does on me. A scent that works for someone in their twenties AND someone in their sixties is extremely diverse and universally pleasing. The scent lasts well on the skin and is noticeable but in no way overpowering. This is certainly a perfume worth getting a whiff of if you are in the market for a fun, girlie perfume.

  • M.A.C. Eye Shadow
    9.0

    M.A.C. Eye Shadow

    Something for Everyone

The sheer variety of colors and finishes make MAC eye shadows stand out from just about every other makeup line. If you are looking for a particular color or effect, you should be able to find it at MAC. Colors range from pale and pastel to dark and vibrant. I think these were the first "high end" eye shadows I ever bought and I have continued to purchase and love them ever since. I have a 15 shadow palette and a separate 4 shadow palette full of MAC eye shadows that I turn to regularly when doing my makeup. MAC offers 7 different finishes to their eye shadows so you can get something matte, glittery, shimmery, satiny smooth, etc. The only finish I don't care much for is "Lustre" because I find them to be less pigmented and less smooth. Because they contain larger pieces of shimmer/glitter, there tends to be more fall out when applying these. My favorite finishes have been the mattes, satins and velvets. I tend to like neutral eye shadows and MAC has a stellar selection of neutrals. Each little shadow pan lasts for ages, even when used close to everyday. These can be used to apply color all over the lid, as shadow eyeliner, as an inner corner highlight or brow highlight and to fill in your eyebrows. At $15 each, they are not cheap, however these cost less than most single eye shadows that you will find at makeup counters and/or Sephora. It's definitely worth it to go to a MAC counter or store and swatch the shadows you are considering. The MAC girls are also great at making suggestions based on the look you want to achieve. MAC will forever be my "go to" for eye shadows.

  • Kevyn Aucoin The Sensual Skin Enhancer
    10.0

Kevyn Aucoin The Sensual Skin Enhancer

    Diverse and Unique Product

I picked this up in the shade SX05 for my pale (MAC NW20) skin. I wanted it to be light enough to use as an under eye concealer but not so light that I couldn't use it on the rest of my face as a foundation. This product (in this color) works perfectly for both these purposes. I apply this under my eyes immediately following my daytime eye cream. It blends well and provides great coverage for my dark circles that lasts an entire work day. I then apply this around my nose and t-zone area of my face because this is where I get the most redness and also because this is the area where my normal foundation usually breaks up first. This works wonderfully at concealing the redness and it lasts all day! It also keeps my skin looking even and smooth without settling in any lines, pores, etc. For the rest of my face, I usually apply a lighter, more liquid foundation and blend it with the center of my face that has the Sensual Skin Enhancer. Like others have said, a little bit of this goes a long way. It is so versatile because you can apply it by itself for a more full coverage look, or you can mix this with a creamy moisturizer for a lighter effect. This is fragranced but I actually like the smell of it. It is light and does not last for long. Applying this may take some getting used to because you will not be applying the same amount as you would a normal foundation. Still, I have not had any problem getting it right for what I am trying to do. The small jar is great for travel and despite its petite size, the concentration of the product ensures that the jar will last a very long time. This has a large shade range as well so most people should be able to find the right color for their skin. I love this and have used it every day since I got it!

  • T3 Veloce Dryer
    9.0

    T3 Veloce Dryer

Soft, Bouncy Hair in Less Time

After using a slow, loud, heavy Con Air blow dryer for years, I wanted to upgrade a bit. After reading several reviews, I chose this one from T3 because it seemed to have all the benefits of the pricey ionic, fast drying blow dryers for $100, instead of $200+. Even though this isn't the "feather weight" model, it is extremely light and easy to handle. It has two speed settings and even on the slower speed, my hair dried so much faster than before and felt super smooth and silky. The detachable nozzle worked great as well. For a blow dryer, I consider this to be super quiet. It has just been a real pleasure to use and I feel better about blow drying my hair more often because I don't have extreme heat on it for several minutes like I did before. Two reasons I had to knock off a star from this...1. The "cool shot" button only seems to work when you are using this on the high setting. 2. The position of the on/off button is right where I naturally hold the dryer, so it is too easy to hit while I'm using this and accidentally turn the blow dryer off. These are minor things for me though. This has met and exceeded my expectations of a more high end blow dryer.

  • MAC 228 Mini Shader Brush

I can't understand why more people don't talk about this amazing little brush. I have to assume that it is just because they haven't used it yet because if people did, they would love it and rave about it. I went to the MAC store intending to get MAC's 219 pencil brush because I wanted to precisely define my socket in a Mia Farrow/Twiggy sort of way. The lady at MAC said that if I wanted that 60's look I should get the 228 brush. Her reasoning was that since it is small and flat, it is easy to deposit product right along the crease. Using the edge of this brush, it fits perfectly in my socket line. Whenever I am going for that look, I use this perfect brush. It has tons of other uses as well though. It is great for smudging liner or shadow along the lash line or putting just a dab of highlighting eye shadow at the tear duct. It is also great for applying color at the brow bone. This is a brush for placing color, rather than blending it. I have had my brush since 2009 and it is still in perfect condition. The bristles are densely packed but soft to touch. I use this for so many looks. If I lost this or broke it somehow I would definitely run out to get another. I haven't seen a brush like this offered in other makeup lines. To me it is indispensable. Get this one!

  • Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner
    6.0

    Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner

    Product Doesn't Last Well

This liner from Bobbi Brown was the first gel eyeliner I ever tried and I was blown away by how the product enabled me to get the perfect black eyeliner, whether it be thin and subtle, thick and dramatic, or cat-eyed and classic. The product applies well, especially with a thin pointy liner brush. Once it is on and set, it really does last all day. The black is a true black and doesn't appear shiny like many traditional liquid eyeliners can. The bummer about this product (and the MAC counterpart, Fluidline) is that it does not age well in its packaging. No matter how tightly I screwed the cap, the eyeliner gel would dry out after just a few months. Even if I were to wear gel liner everyday (which I basically was when I first discovered how precise and awesome it was) I would not be able to get through the jar before it dried out to the point of being unusable. At $23 a jar, I want to know that I am getting my money's worth and that is impossible with a product that does not last. Although MAC's fluidline dries out as well, it is at least $7 cheaper and eligible for the "Back to MAC" program. I love Bobbi Brown for being the pioneer of gel eyeliners, but the packaging should be improved upon so that the product does not dry out so quickly. Getting less product for less money would even be a better solution because less would be wasted at the end of its lifespan. After several years of throwing away dried out pots of unused gel liner, I have discovered the Clinique Cream Liner which does not dry out like the others. With that and the many other gel liners that are now on the market for less money, I will not purchase this from Bobbi Brown again, unless the packaging is changed.
