Times are tough. Lancome used to offer superior bags in black with white roses when they had gifts with purchase. This is a simple (emphasis on simple) bag. No big deal. Really.

It does indeed take awhile to get used to the "fallout" from MAC pigments (you learn to cover your clothing and anything which can be hard to clean). But you can't ignore these amazing, intensely pigmented shadows. There are amazing colors like "White Gold" (white pearl mixed with gold), "Deep Blue Green" (an unusually rich pearlized shade), and "Deep Purple" (a blackened burgundy). I haven't worn these wet yet; I find the color deep enough just using it dry. I love the ability to blend the powders to come up with my own personalized shade (named "Gigi," of course!). MAC puts a lot of powder in these little containers, making the purchase price a little less painless. These are a dream for beginners or full-fledged makeup artists!

"Especially Escada" is meant to be a light-hearted luxury fragrance. It is. It is beautiful, soft, and very feminine, but it is too reminiscent of other fragrances (thus, I'm withholding more stars). It is a great scent for summer. Chief fragrance notes are pear, ambrette seeds, ylang-ylang, and musk. Though it is light and playful, I still find it beguiling and enticing.

Avon claims that "Moisture Therapy Intensive Healing and Repair Body Lotion" boosts the skin's level by 113 percent (are they sure it's not 112 or 114?). But, seriously, this does deliver when it comes to long-lasting hydration. Benefits accrue with use. Just a few of the ingredients in this amaging, potent lotion include glycerin, silica, rice bran and jojoba seed oils, lecithin, and soybean oil. Despite the oils, this is completely non-greasy with a subtle, enjoyable scent. I often apply it OVER other lotions to "lock" them in and super-moisturize skin.

I was taught only to use natural-hair brushes, but how can I resist a brush that works so well for such a small amount of money? This is great for eye shadow; I love ELF's "Contour" brush and angling brushes as well.

I admitted in an earlier blog that I am totally hooked on Tangee's "Color-Changing Lipstick" (a classic, available online from The Vermont Country Store). The silky-smooth formula protects my lips from hot and cold weather, provides a most becoming shade on my pout, often lasting longer than I do! There's a new and noteworthy product in town: It Cosmetics' "Vitality Flush 4-in-1 Anti-Aging Lip Stain." It is available in four hues, including my favorites: "Pretty Woman," a lovely, burnished pink and "Love Story," a soft, true rose. Also noteworthy is "Je Ne Sais Quoi," which provides just a hint of a very natural long-lasting tint. This gem won awards from "Total Beauty," "Daily Glow," and "Beauty Entertainment." Plum. Sunflower, and Cherry Oils, Shea Butter, and Jojoba hydrate and condition for hours; these are combined with the anti-oxidants Green Tea, White Tea, and Vitamins A, C, and E. Hyaluronic Acid, currently all-the-rage in moisurizing, is included to keep your lips buttery soft and glossy. How can you resist a stain which enhances and nourishes? You can't!

Luscious. When my husband wears this fragrance, I can't stand when he walks away! It is crisp, clean, masculine, and sultry at the same time. Bvlgari mixes mandarin, petit grain, santolina, posidonia, and mineral amber for an irresistible scent.

I do love the fact that this eyebrow product is waterproof. I read on another site explicit directions on how to use it before I bought it. It's good, but not as good as I had anticipated. It takes a lot of time to get a perfect brow. I have better results (and a better color) with "Divaderme," a mix of clay and a plethora of miniscule fibers which adhere to brows and fill in sparse areas ever-so-naturally. I didn't find MUFE's product quite as natural. I don't think I would purchase this again.

There has been tremendous press about Make Up For Ever's "HD Microfinish Powder." It is an amazing product, but I think some words of warning need to be issued about it here. This is an award-winning, translucent, ultra-finely blended silky powder to be used on your bare complexion or over makeup. It is made of one hundred percent mineral silica which does work to disguise fine lines and creases and pores, keep oil at bay, and stop makeup from budging. It will keep skin moisturized as well as it also adds a soft radiance to your face, and who doesn't love that? The problem is that many women use far too much. Just a little is necessary here. You may want to use a good, professional powder brush (a kabuki brush works best, applying in small circles), but I have better results with Beautyblender's incredible little sponge. I pour a tiny amount into the cap or a palette and blend with the sponge dampened, being sure to get rid of all lines of demarcation. When using on nose and chin, downward strokes will help to disguise pores. Many women are adamant about setting undereye concealer with powder. This is probably the finest setting powder available, but I have mixed feelings about this practice. Back in modeling school, we were drilled again and again never to use powder of any kind around the eye area, as it will ultimately make creases protrude. I have used this under my eyes and am thankful that my skin is in good shape, with no crow's feet and miniscule creases. However, I did find that it made the concealer look artificial and did call attention to the tiny lines. I washed my face and began all over again, this time keeping the powder confined to my nose, chin, and other areas of my face. When I did that, I was very impressed

This is supposed to be a highly masculine mix of spices, sandalwood, leather, moss, and clove. It just seems overdone to me. My husband, who loves fragrances, finds it heavy and annoying as well.
