I was anxious to try Clairol's "Professional Repair Daily Shampoo." It is intended to repair color-treated or plain mistreated or dry hair, moisturizing and protecting from color fading. The scent was reminiscent of a styling salon but didn't bother me. While it did handle my hair gently, it could not compete at all with Neutrogena's "Triple Moisture Cream Lather Shampoo." The latter gives a much more lush lather, keeps hair voluminous, repairs injury to tresses, and encourages growth. This is a nice product but definitely not my all-time favorite one.

Korres Wild Rose + Vitamin C Advanced Brightening Sleeping Facial
Softens and Smooths But Doesn't Brighten
I like Korres products but am somewhat disappointed in their "Wild Rose and Vitamin C Advanced Brightening Sleeping Facial" ($48.00 at Sephora). Let's begin with the positive aspects: I wondered if sleeping in this cream would leave an oily residue on my skin and linens--not at all. Though it is replete in moisturizing ingredients like wild rose oil, rose water (for weightless hydration), imperata cylindrica root extract (a nutrient taken from grassy blades which flourish around the African coast and help skin absorb water), glycerin, jojoba seed oil, sunflower seed wax, and sodium hyaluronate, among many others, it smooths on easily and seeps well into skin. It is a substantive, medium-weight cream which immediately comforts. I particularly enjoy the scent of roses in this and all of Korres' products. After testing it extensively, I found that I awakened to consistently softer, smoother, more velvet-like skin, but there was no marked change in my complexion's brightness. Other products have been far more effective in getting ridding of discolorations and giving me a noticeable luminosity. Sorry to say that I didn't have that with this; perhaps there isn't enough Vitamin C to help with discoloration. If you are looking for a nice overnight moisturizer, this is for you. If you are expecting a major change, you won't find it with this.

These are wonderful, sturdy cotton pads to use from everything to removing makeup with your favorite cleanser to apply other lotions. They are extremely soft yet strong enough to stand up to use and capably hold liquids and/or cleansers. They will never harm your face; they are most kind to face and body, and I highly recommend them.

One thing I detest on my face is enlarged pores. Despite the fact that I use Clarisonic regularly (okay, some days I forget or am too rushed), my nose and chin recently became hotbeds of imperfections. Enough! I can't stand this. I reached for a new product for me, Alba's "Deep Sea Facial Mask." I had read some good reviews about it, and my local drugstore featured it. So I picked it up for less than $10.00. Alba uses kaolin, a clay which has been used as an ingredient in skin care for many centuries. Kaolin gently draws grime and oil from deep within pores. This is not just for oily skin--it works well for dry skin as well. Alba adds glycerin, aloe leaf juice, and safflower seed oil to ensure a velvety feel when you have rinsed it from your complexion. Alba also includes a marine complex to hydrate, stimulate cell regeneration, and nourish. After several treatments, my pores are cleansed and greatly diminished. The mask gives a "taut" feel to skin when it's applied and even after, and skin has a radiance and clarity which is to be cherished. I love this mask. I recommend it for anyone who wants to relax to a subtle, menthol-type scent for about twenty minutes and wind up glowing!

The arguments go on as to whether colloidal gold (24K) tones, tightens, and fades lines in skin. It is just one of the ingredients in LaRocca's "C-Gold Reparative Skin Primer." I simply love the idea of a primer which TREATS my skin as well as enables it to receive and wear foundation more effectively. Also present in this unique product are dimethicone (to add moisture) and Vitamin C, which is an antioxidant that slows the rate of free radical damage, thus slowing the appearance of dryness, lines, and wrinkles. Vitamin E quickens the skin's ability to repair damage to tissues, including that caused by the sun. This is a delightful, oh-so-soft potion which you apply in a pea-sized amount after cleansing over face and neck. More than that amount is wasted. It glides over your complexion and neck like liquid satin, creating a feel which I can't seem to keep from touching or describe sufficiently! Skin is left with a coating which is non-oily but helps foundation apply most easily. There is no heavy feel as I've experienced with some other celebrated primers. My face looks better after just using this primer sans foundation. Perhaps it is the mica included, a mineral which lends a pearlescent, glowing appearance. Even my Lancôme Dual Finish Powder Foundation works well with this. Wear is extended. My skin looks more refined, dewy, and simply glows. The price is high--$75.00--but this is one of my "must-have" splurge items which does last a very long time and. Be sure to shake the bottle thoroughly to combine ingredients before application. And get ready to receive compliments . . .

I am completely fickle when it comes to lip balm, but now that the weather is turning colder, I'm going to order another First Aid Beauty "Ultra Repair Lip Therapy." I don't like the price--$12.00!!--but the benefits exceed the heft price tag. I may frown when I hand over my debit card, but I do it nonetheless. This is no ordinary lip balm. It is crammed with lip-loving ingredients. Shea butter moisturizes and provides a barrier against harsh elements; wonderful, powerful gylcerin does the same. Colloidal oatmeal soothes, dimethicone softens, and jojoba and grape seed oils are additional emollients. Squalane is yet another lipid to inhibit dryness; it used to be derived from sharks (thus, the name), but now is also taken from plants. Allantoin is known for its ability to treat and prevent rough, dry, itchy skin. Hyaluronic acid is a popular ingredient included for a good reason--it locks moisture into fluid-filled spaces between cells, keeping skin plumped. I love the container with its slanted tip and opening (keeps your hands clean and the product sanitary). I don't need to reapply often, and this handles my worst dry pouts with care but also quickly, leaving my lips dewy and comforted. The gentle mint scent is a plus. Say hello to hydration with First Aid's potent formula.

I was frustrated by the look of my skin the other day. It wasn't horrible--it just look tired. I knew what to do. I whipped out my Queen Helene "Mud Pack" and indulged in about twenty minutes of "me" time. The mud in the mask is kaolin, an ancient beauty remedy which has more than stood the test of time. In fact, it is named for the place where it originated--Kaoling Hill in the Kiangsi province of China. Kaolin is revered for its ability to draw out impurities and toxins and rid skin of excess oil and pollutants. I smear this generously over my face, neck and decolletage, avoiding the tender eye area. Once it is dry, it may be a bit messy to remove with warm, wet washcloths, but my skin is beyond clean and super-soft, with a radiant glow that makes me look like I just took a brisk walk in the cold. Glycerin is included to keep skin smooth. For less than $5.00 for a tube, this will make you smile--beautifully!

This was one of the first beauty products I ever used to enhance my auburn hair. I've used it since and will continue to do so. It's very affordable (about $3.50 for a generous tub). It worked years ago and it works now to smooth, soften, coat split ends, add shine, and overhaul my hair in general. It is a thick cream. Use after washing for fifteen to thirty minutes for a hair miracle. To enhance the effectiveness, work thoroughly and lavishly through hair and cover with a cap. Then use a heat cap for penetration (a hot towel can work well in this capacity, too). The ingredients could not be more moisturizing: It contains gylceryl sterate, a wax-like substance, a combination of glycerin and stearic acid, which helps to hold in moisture. Mineral oil is plentiful, as is cholesterol. Cholesterol is fat, often taken from olives, aloe, carrots, and more. It is an essential to hair which has lost its lipids due to over-processing and/or coloring. Cholesterol clings to the hair shaft, lending shine and smoothness, repairing damage, and reducing any frizzy appearance. I like the pleasant scent and find that with continued weekly use, my hair is far more able to handle the heat from blow dryers, curlers, and more.

I was sure Physician's Formula "Mineral Wear Talc Free Mineral Correcting Pebbles" would make me luminous and glowing, so much so that people would stop talking when I entered the room (okay, so I dream really big). The concept is great, but I wound up with a chalky appearance rather than a gleam. I was disappointed, as Physician's Formula rarely disappoints me.

This is a multi-purpose product. Swirl the blush, bronzer, and highlighter for subtle color on your cheeks (I realize that it does not appear subtle, but it works for very well for my ulta-fair skin). Or use it to contour, emphasizing the appearance of cheekbones, giving yourself a gentle blush, and highlighting where necessary. No matter how you use this trio from Sephora, it is far worth the $20.00 price tag. Less is more with these silky-soft powders, but the results are no less than gorgeous. It is completely wearable for day or night.
