  • St. Ives Timeless Skin Collagen Elastin Facial Moisturizer

I bought this as a "beginner" level anti-aging moisturizer while being in my 20s. I was really impressed with the value of this product! One tub lasted me almost a year. I bought it from Walmart for probably around 5 dollars. I like to apply it as a night cream, and every time I wake up, my skin feels so smooth, soft, and radiant! I prefer to apply a moisturizer with SPF during the day, so this is part of my nightly routine. I have oily skin during the summer, and fairly normal skin in the winter. This cream seems to work well all year round. For those of you sensitive to scent, it is very subtle. Sometimes in the winter, I like to add some argan oil along with this cream occasionally just for an additional boost of nutrition for my skin. The cream is perfect on its own though, I've been using it for the past 2 years and no cons! Highly recommended!

    NYX Slim Lip Pencil

    My Go-To Lip Product!

This lip pencil is so wonderful. It only costs about 3 - 4 dollars at Ulta or Target and wears well. I love the variety of colors and the color pay off. The colors are true and vibrant. I can even apply my favorite colors and top it off with a clear lip gloss if I don’t feel like wearing a full-on lipstick. Paired with a lipstick, it really does make the lip color last longer than it would without the lip pencil. Only things I wish are that 1. I wish all colors were more easily available. It seems like the retailers are always missing some of the colors that are on the NYX website; and 2. I wish there was some moisturizing element in the formula. The formula is not creamy, and the lip pencil leaves a matte color on your lips. I would be sure to apply Vaseline or lip balm before applying it. My lips tend to get dry easily anyways and I would rather not enhance or highlight the cracks on my lips by going without Vaseline. It’s a great value for your buck, so be sure to stock up on the colors!

  • NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil

    NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil

    Great Layering Product!

I have this in "Milk", a stark white color, and "Black Bean", a solid black. If i'm using lighter eye shadows, I use the white one as a base because it really brings out the color better. If I'm doing a smokey eye, I go for the black one to intensify the look. I do highly recommend using an eye primer before applying this because it does smudge, especially if you live in a place with warmer climate or humidity. I tried the black one to smoke out my eyeliner, and it didn’t work out. It smudged past my eyes. It’s basically an alternative to Maybelline’s Color Tattoo shadow pots, except this is not waterproof, is much cheaper, and comes in a greater color variety. The color quality is great, and the formula is really smooth and easy to blend. Only thing I dislike is the packaging, particularly the cap. The delicate plastic cap cracked easily, so I would not recommend tossing the pencil freely in your purse as is; instead, find a pouch or case to store the pencils in and then you’ll be good to go.

  • BareMinerals Lash Domination Volumizing Mascara

    BareMinerals Lash Domination Volumizing Mascara

First Coat and I was Speechless

I LOVE this mascara so much! When I ran it over my lashes, just once, it highlighted them so well. I have droopy eyes so this really wakened them up! Let’s see what benefits it is supposed to guarantee based on the bareMinerals website: Volumizing, lengthening, thickening, separating, adding lift, all-day wear, mineral fortified, clump resistant, flake fighting, and smudge-resistant. I give a thumbs-up to it for meeting all of those expectations! My lashes did get an instant life, looked longer than I thought my lashes were, and looked voluminous. I haven’t experienced any flaking or smudging. Its spiraled 180 degree curve brush really works, I was so impressed! It literally caught all my lashes, from every angle, even the finer lashes that are invisible to the human eye. It says that this mascara has quinoa protein complex, which I think would probably make your lashes look healthier when wearing no makeup, but I haven’t tested that out. Another great thing is that I can even skip the eyeliner when wearing this; since it’s so dark and thickens my lashes so well, it automatically looks like I have some eyeliner on too. With that in mind, I’d like to point out the cons, so to speak: when I first took out the wand, the formula is dense, like a mousse, not to mention that the chunky brush looked a bit intimidating on its own! Please make sure to wipe the excess formula as you pull out the wand (look up a YouTube video for a how-to on that); don’t wipe it off on a separate piece of tissue, as you’ll only waste the product. Make sure to wipe the excess from the brush tip as well. This will help prevent clumping and prevent lashes from clinging together. Due to its formula, hold a business card or something similar behind your lashes so that the mascara doesn’t smudge onto your eyelids. I can apply without it because I usually have a good hand with that, Apply as you would, and see the magic happen! Honestly, with this mascara, the trick is in the application. I used the above tips and my mascara went on flawlessly. Only reason why I gave it 9 out of 10 is because of how dense the formula was, otherwise – it’s definitely a keeper!

  • Vaseline Intensive Care Advanced Relief Healing Serum

I love the fact that this serum contains micro-droplets of Vaseline jelly which I believe is what gives long-lasting hydration. My hands didn’t feel as dry after washing them as they normally would, because the Vaseline jelly probably helped retain some of the moisture. The texture resembles that of a lotion, and having used Vaseline lotions previously, I expected this to be very similar, but I was wrong! My hands get so dry in the winter, particularly around the knuckles, that when I apply a moisturizer, it stings. When I applied this to my hands, however, it felt soothing, and they seemed to soak up the serum readily, leaving me with healthy looking, moisturized skin almost instantly. I like that with the moisturizing feel, my hands are not greasy. It is my pet peeve to have an oily moisturizer, but with this, you can apply the serum and still be ready to work! The serum has a very pleasant, beautiful scent, and you can smell it even after application. Those of you sensitive to fragrances in product might consider it a strong scent. Moreover, the formula was indeed gentle on my skin, no rashes or breakouts. The squeeze tube is very soft, and the dispenser is also very precise so you don’t waste too much product. The top ingredients of this product contain water, glycerin – which is an amazing moisturizer on its own and adheres to the skin, preventing moisture loss – and dimethicone, which adds to the skin’s silky feel. It is like Vaseline jelly and lotion combined into 1. I feel that this product is an all-rounder. I applied it to my hands, massaged it onto my dry cuticles, and even overnight on my drying feet – I woke up with smoother, softer feet. It does exactly what it says, I would highly recommend the Vaseline healing serum to anyone!

  • GiGi All Purpose Honee

    GiGi All Purpose Honee

    Professional Results

I have been using the GiGi All Purpose Honee wax for about a year now and it has never disappointed me. Only thing that was tricky to work around for me was that since the wax comes in an aluminum tin, you can’t microwave it, obviously. So for some time, I ended up double boiling it, which was a tedious process and made me want to quit on this wax, until I realized that I could buy a wax warmer. I’m glad I spent the extra bucks for the wax warmer (also by GIGi), because it is very handy to use the wax together with the warmer. The wax tub might seem a bit costly to some (it was about 10 dollars), but it really pays off in the long run as it last a long time, and so do its results. I noticed that my hairs are lighter than before every time. Even if I let them grow longer, they’re not as recognizable as they were before I started waxing. I love the fact that this wax is all purpose; it’s great for arms, legs, chest, tummy, bikini zone, you name it! I would like to add that this is very effective on facial hairs too (including the neck area), however, here’s a word of caution: be sure that your skin is clean, sanitized, and zit/acne/scar free. When that’s done, apply some baby powder over the areas you want to wax, such as upper/lower lips, chin, and jawline. This way, you will be less likely to breakout after waxing, and the powder will make the wax gentle for the delicate facial skin, by ensuring that you don’t pull off skin, just the hairs. Yes, it is true that every time we wax we pull off some of the skin. Only difference is that if you wax your legs, the skin on legs is more versatile as compared to that on the face, which is more fragile. Removing the wax residue is very easy, I use azulene oil from an old, sally Hansen wax strip kit, but baby oil should work just as well; as long as the oil you use is fragrance free and pure. Happy waxing!

  • Origins Modern Friction Nature's Gentle Dermabrasion

All I knew about microdermabrasion was that it can be harsh on your face, but leave you with amazing results. I felt reluctant to use this, but I gave it a try, and was happy that I did! First of all, I love the fact that this has so many natural ingredients, not to mention rice bits that exfoliate your skin. Rice is great for brightening your skin and to make it soft and supple, which is exactly the result after using the Modern Friction. It is a very dense paste when squeezed out of the tube. You can pat some water on clean face then rub this in. Depending on your skin type, you might need a bit more water to make the scrub spread easier; I had to use an extra splash of water otherwise the scrub would feel too abrasive and be hard to spread. I recommend massaging this really well but with a gentle motion, taking your time. When you rinse it off with water, the mixture seems to lather a little bit upon contact with water, which makes it easy to wash off the Modern Friction. My skin felt so smooth and soft, perfect for applying makeup without even needing a primer (unless I wanted the makeup to last for an extensive number of hours), and my skin was radiant. I have oily skin and this helped balance it out; my skin didn’t feel dry, taut, or patchy, which is a very comparable result that I achieved using Origins’ face wash, called “Checks and Balances”. This result lasted all week, I am sure it will vary for everyone depending on the skin type, but I found that using this weekly was good enough for me. Only con about this product was the price, it is about 40 dollars. However, rule of the thumb for this product is that a little goes a long way, making it a good value for your money. I currently own a travel size tube and it has lasted me over 2 months now. I highly recommend this product!

  • Tarte Colored Clay CC Primer
    10.0

    Tarte Colored Clay CC Primer

    Phenomenal CC cream

This CC cream works like a charm! I do like the Tarte BB cream, but thought that the hype is not worth having a CC cream as well, but I was wronged the moment I tried this on. The stick applies like a dream, so smoothly. In my opinion, the best way to apply this is by literally drawing lines on your face. I like to draw streaks on my cheeks, forehead, nose, and chin, and then blend in the lines to spread the CC cream, adding a few more lines with the stick if I need more coverage. The green and purple colors really do work to improve my complexion, I noticed, and they flawlessly blend into your skin to look natural. When I applied the CC cream, I received lots of compliments on how radiant and smooth my skin looked. I am impressed with the results, not to mention that since Tarte makes most of its products using natural ingredients, I don’t feel guilty about using this CC cream every day. Moreover, I think this can be worn on its own, even though it’s kind of a primer. You can also apply foundation on top of it and it would still feel light. Personally, I don’t have too much to cover, so I apply this CC cream and lightly dust some translucent powder over my T-zone (because I have oily skin). For those with dry skins, I would only suggest moisturizing your skin a bit more, just because of the mattifying effect. The CC cream’s finish is matte, yet it brightens your skin, and it is long wearing. Only downsides for me about this product, is its price - $34; and it only comes in 5 shades for now. I did find a shade that works well for me so no complains about that, but just an FYI. Overall I’m really impressed with the Tarte CC cream and it’s totally worth the try!

  • ck Calvin Klein One Color Mascara

I received this as a free gift from Ulta, and it was the best value ever! The tube is so sleek and modern, and the unique thing is that you can even change the brush. How amazing is that?! At the very top of the cap, you can twist the tip to change the shape of the brush. It can become long and thin, which is good for achieving longer, separated lashes. Upon twisting the handle, you can transform it to become shorter, fatter, and a more convoluted form of the long/thin version; this works for achieving fuller looking, dense lashes. Personally, so far I used the shorter/fatter form first on my lashes, and before this layer dries, I switched to the longer/thinner form and ran the mascara wand more towards the tips of my lashes. This part made my lashes look separated and defined after looking voluminous from the shorter/fatter form. CK One mascara does an amazing job of being a well-rounded mascara by giving you full as well as define lashes. Since I have hooded eyes, I found that this mascara gave a nice “lift” to them, making my eyes look more awake. It is not waterproof, but it is long-wearing in the sense that it doesn’t smudge (even after I accidentally slept in it!), doesn’t flake, and doesn’t clump upon application. The only con, per say, for me, is the price: $18. I felt really lucky to receive this full-size mascara as a complimentary gift, otherwise the price would not have appealed to me. The formula is also really nice, not too heavy, sticky, or runny, it was just right; it applied evenly. I highly recommend this to everyone, be sure to care for it (don’t pump the wand in and out, keep the tube closed tight, don’t expose it to extreme heat, etc.) and it will last you a while. You will find that this mascara is worth every penny!

    E.L.F. Tone Correcting Concealer

Not as Great as I Expected...

After reading the amazing reviews I set off to buy this concealer. I found the right shade, it applied very smoothly, wasn't too liquidy or too thick, I liked the formula. I feel like its coverage was almost that of a tinted moisturizer. It didn't have much coverage, but it did have some sheen, like light reflecting effect. If it had better coverage I would've liked this effect, but for now, it just reflects my dark circles that are still visible. It almost reminded me of one of those eye-brightening pens, like the one by Victoria's Secret. If you have flawless skin, it probably doesn't hurt to have an eye brightener. It was a disappointing, not a big loss though since it literally cost a buck. I don't know how well it covers acne scars or even minor acne, but it definitely doesn't cover up dark circles. I found the Maybelline Fit Me concealer to be the perfect all-in-one concealer.
