  • Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain

With the new edition of matte and lacquer colors, I'm seriously more in love with these balms than ever before! I believe these really beat out Cover Girl's or Rimmel's versions. I also much prefer these to Clinique's just because the price is so affordable and there are so many more color choices! These are so travel friendly, and the formula goes on super smooth and buttery. But, those who are sensitive to scents in their makeup should know that these do come with a bit of a minty fragrance. I believe they have started putting less of it in their newer colors, but the smell is definitely still there (just a little fainter). For those who don't mind the scent, the mint actually might be quite pleasant. Personally, I enjoy it because it helps freshen my breath! Application wise, I don't ever need to drag these across my lips to get a good color payoff, and it gets slicker and easier to apply the more it warms up on my lips. The 'stain' side of these balms are great too! When the original color and shine fades away, I'm left with this nice my lips but better color that varies according to what shade I was wearing. I don't have to worry about the stain applying in patches either, thanks to the balm formula! But, I do have to complain about the lack of moisture from these, though. (I get super dry lips, so those who don't have a problem with flakes and chapping like I do may not experience this problem) My lips just feel a little tighter and flakier in places after the balm wears away and I'm just left with the stain. Applying more does help, but I just don't get nice soft lips like when I wear traditional lip balm. Plus, the balm does tend to cling on those little flake patches if they decide to pop up! This is still a great product though, especially for drugstore prices. I recommend those who are interested to go grab a couple colors to try!

  • Urban Decay 24/7 Concealer Pencil

Urban Decay really has their stuff down. This concealer is just as awesome as their eye and lip liners in the 24/7 line! With the new addition of shades, they have made it so much easier to find the perfect shade for any season. It's easily the only concealer I've bought multiples of because I like to match my shade perfectly throughout the year. I love how emollient the pencil is, and how well it blends into my skin. The only complaint about application part of the formula is that it does tend to stick to any little bits of dry skin that happen to pop up on my oily face, and does take a little more blending in than usual to make it look totally natural. Nevertheless, this concealer has great coverage and has such a nice smooth application that can't be beat with any other stick concealers I've ever come across in the market! Put it under or on top of foundation, either way, it provides great coverage no matter what. Now, I do have something else to complain about in the formula department, and that being it's TOO emollient for the pencil to keep it's shape! I dropped the pencil once, and while the exposed product didn't break off immediately, the rest of the product inside definitely did. Every other sharpening reveals product that's shattered inside the pencil, and must be applied with a brush because it's in multiple pieces. I also would like a pencil with a slimmer end, because the cap is actually too small to be placed on the end of the pencil when applying, but it's not such a big issue. Just my pet peeve! Overall, I'd recommend giving this concealer a try, especially if you love the convenience of a stick concealer, but just haven't found one that works! The price tag may seem a little steep, but this product definitely lasts for ages!

  • Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil

I really never needed to ask why Urban Decay was such a cult favorite in the eyeliner department, but I seriously didn't know what I was missing out on until I tried it! I love this eyeliner! That said, It was given to me by a friend that had problems with it smudging on her, so I can see why it hasn't gotten more than a 9 star review here on Total Beauty. In my case, I found that the formula is incredibly creamy and smooth, making application super smooth and without a hitch. I didn't have a case of tugging, nor did the formula irritate my eyes when I applied to my waterline or tight-lined my upper lash line. My favorite feature about this liner, though, has got to be how many colors it comes in! I find myself using it for more than just lining my eyes, but also as an eyeshadow base, or even for a quick smokey eye in a flash because it blends so beautifully! Once set, this liner doesn't move an inch. I haven't had a case of smearing or fading despite the fact that I have oily lids and that I live in a very humid part of the states. I've also gone swimming with this eyeliner on accidentally, and discovered it hadn't budged an inch. All of that said, this product does not come cheap! I understand that it has an amazing formula, it has so many different colors, and that there are definitely some liners much more expensive than this, but for purchasing everyday colors such as black, the money really adds up. Otherwise, I'd give this liner a perfect 10 stars. But, I recommend checking out Rimmel's Scandal Eyes waterproof kohl liners first before really deciding if this cult favorite is worth the cash!

  • Rimmel London Scandaleyes Waterproof Kohl Kajal

Before I even say anything about this eyeliner, I recommend everyone to go out and buy it right now! It's that good! I am very surprised I am even saying this about a drugstore liner, but it's one of the best I've tried. The formula is so creamy, so emollient, applies so smoothly, and lasts for so long. I don't have to tug on my eyes when I apply, and it has great pigmentation so that I don't have to go over my lines with multiple swipes! I seriously believe this eyeliner should cost way more than what I paid, because the only other eyeliners I can use to describe the texture with are ones made by Makeup Forever and Urban Decay. Plus, they come in so many pretty colors! Every shade I've tried apply just as beautifully and last for hours on my oily lids without smearing or fading, or disappearing in general. I use the shade Nude for the waking up the eyes by applying in the waterline (but it does tend to fade by the third hour, which may call for reapplication). I also have not experienced any breakage with this eyeliner, which I find is sometimes the case if the pencil is just too creamy to hold itself up during application. Sharpening this eyeliner also creates a nice, sharp point for when I need precision in my lines! Seriously, I can not recommend this eyeliner enough, especially to those who are lovers of UD's eye pencils or MUFE's Aqua Eyes. This pencil by Rimmel rings in at a fraction of the price, and can really compete with its amazing formula! I never have to feel bad about 'wasting product' when sharpening this pencil because of how little I paid in comparison to other high end brands, haha!

  • Stila All Day Waterproof Smudge Stick Eye Liner

I love Stila and all their products, but this eyeliner is just a mess! Firstly, the smudge factor is most definitely there, and it makes a great smokey eye easy and quick! The pigmentation is also an awesome jet black and because the formula is so emolument, it makes its mark without tugging or stretching out the eyelid. However, here comes the complains. This eyeliner is not cheap. Even though, yes, it is waterproof, that says absolutely nothing for its staying power. It goes on, smudges, and then keeps smudging throughout the day! I always end up with black raccoon eyes by the second hour and on, no matter how I apply or what products I try to seal it with. It also disappears from my waterline and upper lash line just as quickly like it was never there. Maybe it's because my eyelids are more oily than others, and the humid climate I live in may be affecting the wear time, but isn't that the ideal situation to be wearing a waterproof eyeliner in the first place?! Together with the price I paid and how many times I have to reapply a day (not to mention wiping it off from under my eyes), I can't bring myself purchasing this again. It has become an eyeliner I only reach for whenever I've run out, and even then, I make sure to wear it only if I'm going out for a short time or somewhere dark so no one can see my raccoon eyes. I wish I could love this eyeliner because it has such great pigmentation and creaminess, but for the price and problems I've had, I say it's not worth it!

  • NYX Automatic Eyebrow Pencil

Since my makeup routine has become so compact in the mornings, this product is such a time saver (in exchange for more beauty sleep)! I love how it contains a brow brush on the other end from the colored wax, though I could go for a spooly with stiff bristles instead. But, back to the formula. The wax makes just filling in brows super easy because it has just the right amount of pigmentation (too pigmented makes too harsh brows), and blends out easily for a natural brow look. I use this pencil for every day filling in, and evenings when I want a stronger brow but without the 'drawn in' look. Like most pencils, the wax really isn't there to shape brow hairs, which I don't mind too much, but instead helps the color last all day on my brows so that they look as nice and filled in as they did in the morning. The twist up pencil feature also makes it really convenient to use, and I find myself traveling with this pencil more than any of my other brow kits or products. Like I had said previously though, I really would like if the brush, which is consisted of three small tufts of bristles rather like a very small toothbrush, was more like a spooly or of stiffer brush hairs. The brush doesn't exactly move my brow hairs into place like I'd want it to, so it might take a little adjusting to tidy up the stray hairs with another brush or with a finger. I would definitely recommend this to those who want a quick and easy way to fill in their brows for the day, but aren't look for TOO much precision. This pencil is definitely more geared towards a natural brow, and is worth a shot at $5.00!

  • Wet n Wild Ultimate Brow Kit

Wet n Wild Ultimate Brow Kit

Love it, Especially for the Price!

Seriously, for the price, this brow kit can't be beat! The powders have a great formulation, are well pigmented, and can be easily brushed out to a more natural finish after I apply it to my brows. The two color combination are perfectly matched for easy shading, ombre-ing, or mixing of colors to find my perfect shade. They do tend to kick up a lot of excess powder though, which sometimes travel into the wax if I decide to take the kit with me on the go. And as if this product doesn't do enough for me, neither the wax nor the powders break me out around my eyebrows like some brow products have done! My only complaint involves the wax and the packaging itself. The wax has a great emollient texture that isn't had to get a brush into, but that also creates the problem of actually applying it to my brows. It seems that the wax just doesn't want to be picked up by my brush, rather, it just sort of pushes it around the pan. Using the brush included in the kit does help a little because of its stiff bristles, but it also creates the problem of contaminating the wax with whatever color I happen to pick up with the brush when I filled in my brows. The brush is the more useful of the tools included, where the tweezers are not precise enough to pluck any hairs with. Mostly, the two just get in the way when I try to close the lid. The mirror, too, can be hard to open because it's located on the underside of the packaging rather than in the lid. It often is stuck by the sticker on the back, and require some serious wiggling and tugging to open if you want to use it. I also find that some excess powder gets into the mirror compartment and smear up the mirror, making it hard to clean. Overall, it still is a great product that make a lot of things a lot easier by containing so much in such a little package! I highly recommend to those looking for an inexpensive brow kit and replacing the tweezers and brush inside if necessary!

  • E.L.F. Shadow Lock Eyelid Primer

For something as simple as primer, especially being used on a daily basis, I highly recommend this one. It's super budget friendly, does EXACTLY what it says it will do, and no shenanigans. At first use, the formula was extremely off-putting because it felt just like Crisco on the lids! But it does dry fast, leaving a smooth base that holds my eyeshadow, as well as liner. No, it's no Urban Decay, it's ELF! All the praise aside, I probably would not recommend this to people who have longer than 8 hour days, unless they are fine with reapplication at the end of those 8 hours. While my eyeshadow and liner did not start creasing, they definitely started fading around hour 7. My day ends after 6:00 pm, thus I'm already home and taking off my makeup. But, I would say I'd have to reapply and perhaps redo my eye makeup if I was to go out after that. This is still a product I can't live without, though! For only a dollar, I love how it works for my oily lids and how it saves me dozens of dollars on a product as essential as primer!

  • E.L.F. Studio Makeup Mist & Set

E.L.F. Studio Makeup Mist & Set

    Well, It Felt Nice?

I'm still not exactly sure what the purpose of this product is, but I can say for sure it's not for prolonging the wear of your makeup, nor it is for making it look freshly applied mid-day either. Personally, I used it when I felt like my foundation and powder were applied too heavily and I look incredibly cakey after my makeup routine, but since I switched to higher end products, this spray has been sitting on my makeup table untouched. Like I said previously, this spray neither prolonged the wear of my makeup, nor did it refresh it midday. I've tried spraying this before application, after application, and even after a long day of schooling before I had an event in the evening. Nothing. Not one lick of difference. On the plus side, the bottle does have a good spray nozzle that creates a fine mist that's quite refreshing; especially since I live in Texas it's basically baking during the summer. Spraying from arms distance is usually key, because any closer results in a splot of water that runs down my face and taking my makeup with it! I don't see how it's any different than me spraying water I infused with cucumber (which is probably what this product really is!). On the other hand, I didn't spend too much money given that it was only $3.00 at my local Target, but for those who are even considering purchasing this to try, be warned! There is quite a terrible smell that comes along with this on the first application! The smell isn't exactly 'garbage' like some other reviews have stated, but it definitely had quite a strong scent of something sweet and nauseatingly nasty on the first spray. I'd chalk that one up to the plastic packaging or some such, because the smell disappeared after that initial spray! Every time I've used this mist afterwards always has a very slight hint of something like old cucumber or something, but it's never been a 'rotting' or anything like that. Still, for $3.00, I say skip it and just make your own instead!

  • Nuance Salma Hayek Flawless Mineral Cheek Trio

Those looking for a good highlighter, blush, bronzer trio should keep looking and skip this one. I tried the shade Apricot, which contains a peachy/apricot colored blush, a champagne with purple speckles highlighter, and a typical brown bronzer. The formula does claim to be triple milled, and is definitely luxurious and smooth when I dipped my finger in or when I swirled my brush in it. However, upon swirling, there was definitely a lot of product being kicked up all at once. The colors and the packaging are really where this product fails. While the blush and highlighter look really pretty in the pan, they apply poorly when I tried swatching it and then when I applied it to my face (I have a neutral skin tone that's darker golden in shade). The highlighter contains a lot of sparkle, and could still work for basic highlighting purposes, but the blush, too, contained a lot of sparkle and I ended up with a big sparkly, streaky, splotch on my cheek rather than a well defined blush and highlighter. And then there was the bronzer. If it looked unappealing in the packaging, it was definitely more so on my face. A pretty typical brown in color, the bronzer looked muddy and rather 'dirty' when applied. So obviously, when I tried swirling all three colors together, I got nothing but a sparkly muddy patch that did not blend well and applied rather terribly on my face. Packaging wise, I don't quite understand why the plastic needed to be so bulky in size (or the odd teardrop shape), which made it hard to travel with or store. I did like the large pan the trio came in, which made it easy to dip a brush into any of the three colors without picking up all of them. I paid a ridiculous $13.00 for this trio at my local CVS, and I daresay it was returned almost immediately! Those with lighter skin tones may find it easier to work with and may even want to try it for the nice formula, but this definitely was not for me nor for anyone darker than a medium shade, that's for sure!
