  • Dove Anti-Frizz Oil Therapy Conditioner

The difference. Oh my goodness the difference this conditioner has made. Though my hair has always been rather straight with medium frizz, just applying this conditioner to it is in a word, rich. My hair has now got that smooth, luxurious, super model shine and texture. Despite the extremely thick formula, my hair isn't weighed down the least bit. I'm experiencing less tangling throughout the day, easier time styling due to the lack of frizz, and no winter dryness. Whoo! The only tiny pet peeve I have is the smell, which itself is creamy and warm oils, but I pick up something of a chemical and plastic-y backing to it. Still, definitely worth a try for all ladies!

    NYX Professional Makeup Butter Gloss

Love It, Love It, Love It!

I’m really not a gloss girl at all. I dislike the stickiness and the shine and sparkle that make my lips looks like they’re made of jelly, and I usually stick with my tinted lip balms, stains, and lipsticks. But for some reason, I just absolutely adored this one! Where do I even start? The color I tried was Éclair, which was a creamy true pink, added a lovely flush of nude color without washing me out, but was still incredibly buildable! Though if I applied too much, it made me look rather mod with pale lips against my medium skin. The texture was, of course, buttery, not sticky in the slightest, plush, moisturizing, and just incredibly luxurious. I thought at one point I was wearing one of my liquid lipsticks from a luxury brand instead of a gloss I paid $5.00 for! Even when I have chapped or dry flakes on my lips, it all gets smooth over as soon as I apply the gloss. And everything is all moisturized by the time it fades away! However, it’s so long wearing that it almost frustrated me because I don’t need to reapply throughout the day. Honestly, I’m so in love with the scent that I would open it to smell it anyway. Some people tell me they smell vanilla and cupcakes, but I definitely get hints of caramel too! I would gladly break my no gloss rule to haul a couple more colors from the line. That said, I also really enjoyed this gloss because the finish was creamy rather than shiny or contained sparkle. So for those ladies who enjoy a little more of a sheen for their gloss and more variety in their colors, this line may not be quite as exciting because all of them seem to have the same cream finish and all but two colors (an orangey coral and a bright red) fall under the cool and nude color family.

  • Marc Anthony Dream Waves Beach Spray
    3.0

Marc Anthony Dream Waves Beach Spray

    Not for All Hair Types!

Firstly, I don’t have fine hair. The trend I’ve been noticing with this product is that is pretty much only works on fine hair (no matter the texture). My hair, on the other hand, is normal thickness and relaxed, but I have dry ends and an oily scalp. I though this spray would help add more waviness to the relaxed texture of mine, but it just doesn’t do anything! What it does do, is give my hair a really piece-y look, that’s almost lanky and kind of like I haven’t washed my hair in days. I even tried both the air dry and blow dry methods the bottle talks about on the back, but neither gave me a “soft finish” nor “high voltage waves”, and my hair felt rather crunchy and hairspray-stiff instead. Even better, by the end of the day it felt even more dried out and weighted down like I had dragged my hair through the dirt all day! I first thought that it was perhaps it wasn’t texturizing because I had an oily scalp, but I tried this on friends who all had drier scalps and it still didn’t do squat either! The only time it looked remotely like how a texturizing spray should have, was when my friend with fine, almost wispy, hair tried it out. Otherwise, the only good points I can think of bringing up is the fact that the spray really does have a great smell. My hair had a great scent of real pina coladas all day without a whiff of unnatural chemicals. It was actually quite pleasant and perfect for the summer time! But in the end, it all boils down to the fact that this beach spray isn’t made for everyone. It’s quite a shame too, because I only paid around $7.00 for it at my local drugstore! For those ladies with finer textured hair, try it out and you might be surprised! For the rest of us, the search goes on…

    FLOWER Lighten Up! Brightening Concealer

Lovely, But Needs A Little Work

I was a little dubious about the colors the line had for this brightener (there are only four), but I'm very happy that I tried it out anyway! It has pigmentation that is very buildable, from a sheer to a light coverage without any of those “light reflecting particles” that most gimmicky brightening concealers have. I love how hydrating it is too, especially since I use it under my eyes to brighten things up. I also use it down the bridge of my nose, on my brow bone, and other parts of my face that need a little more dimension when I contour. Everything is just so smooth and sinks into my skin like it’s a moisturizer, whether I apply it underneath or over my foundation. As much as I love the feel of the formula though, I do have some complaints. I seriously wish it was more “concealer” than “brightener” (they already have the brightening part down pat!) even though that sound totally contradictory! This really doesn't conceal much of anything rather than add a lightening or glow-y effect to the area. Therefore, this can’t be used on any intense dark circles or blemishes unless you want to shine a spotlight right on them! Everything dries to a nice powdery finish, but I must set with some powder anyway because it will slip somewhat on my oily skin before that point. Also, wear time is a little short at only 3 or 4 hours before disappearing and even shorter during hot days; but, the click applicator makes it easy to touch up at any time! This makes me think that those with drier or aging skin would absolutely love this concealer for it's hydrating and smooth formula. In fact, everyone should give it a try if you're looking for a subtle highlight that’s brightening (yet not shimmery) and at a drugstore price!

  • KVD Beauty Everlasting Hyperlight Transfer-Proof Liquid Lipstick

Gosh, this liquid lipstick is so amazing! It's a smooth and highly pigmented formula that hugs the lips without clinging to any dry flakes. The finish is a total matte, and lasts me all day no matter what I’m doing. Eating, drinking, talking, this lipstick lasts through it all! Taking it off at night definitely requires a makeup wipe, because this lipstick seriously doesn’t budge for anything else. I found that after a few hours the lipstick is a little drying, but it was an easy problem to solve by applying a balm while doing the rest of my makeup, then wiping off the excess before applying the lipstick so that it locks in that moisture from the balm. Some of the colors may look scary to try, like Backstage Bambi (a fluorescent acid pink/bright fuscia), but they can be built up or toned down depending on how much product is applied with the awesome doe-foot applicator. The color applies exactly as it seems in the packaging, but again, it can be easily built up for maximum pigmentation. A little gloss or shimmer could also transform this lipstick for any look! And now, can I just rave about the packaging? It’s so feminine and gorgeous! The slim bottle tube is easy to slip into my makeup bag, and it’s decorated with beautiful black scroll print on the tube itself. Also, the twist cap is printed with Kat Von D’s elegant silver roses and a matte finish that’s easy to hold on to while applying the lipstick, but doesn’t attracts dust and grime like many other matte finish packages (ah hem, Nars?). I can easily see myself collecting many more colors from the line, and I definitely highly recommend that every lady tries them out for themselves too! I really believe there’s a color for everyone in the selection!

  • Dior Hydra Life BB Creme
    5.0

    Dior Hydra Life BB Creme

Not My Favorite of BB Creams

I honestly wished I had gotten a sample of this stuff before I purchased it, because I can't say it's worth the money I paid for a full size. First off, the color selection is just abysmal. Three colors? That's it? Even for a BB cream, it certainly isn't universal enough to categorize women into only three colors! And there is no way I'd ask anyone to pay $112 just to mix two colors together, as Dior should have done for us in the first place. The formula of this is incredibly runny and watery, which does fall under what I think the Hydra line should be about. However, it applies on and when it dries, it clung on to all of my dry patches! Even though this is supposed to hydrate my skin, I seriously can’t apply this without some extensive exfoliating and moisturizing beforehand. It then proceeds to just sit on my skin, making it rather obvious that I am wearing foundation of some sort, before I even get a chance to powder my face and hope that it sets! This BB cream is also fragranced with something quite baby powder-y that reminds me of old ladies, therefore making me very doubtful about the amount of SPF the bottle claims to have; it’s just too watery and has too many additives to possibly give me sufficient protection! The only good thing I can say about this BB cream is that is has decent light to medium coverage. Fortunately for me, I fell right in with one of the three shades available, and it applies quite true to my skin tone. That said, it started to oxidize into a color quite unnatural and orange after a few hours. Not flattering. With this many downsides to a $56 watery mess, forget about it!

  • Revlon Lash Potion Volume + Length Waterproof Mascara by Grow Luscious

Revlon Lash Potion Volume + Length Waterproof Mascara by Grow Luscious

My Daily Go To! But Needs A New Brush Pronto!

I seriously picked up this mascara because I thought the packaging was very pretty. But, I'm still very glad I did in the first place! The waterproof version of this mascara is most definitely a lot less flakey than the non-waterproof version. It makes my lashes look longer darker, and holds a curl so well throughout the day. My Asian lashes grow stick straight and dark, so it's a real refresher when I find a mascara that really opens my eyes for less than $10.00! Unfortunately, the volume I was hoping for isn't all that noticeable except by me and that's when I'm looking at my lashes closely in the mirror. Don't get me wrong! I have more volume than I did before I applied this mascara, but it just isn't that much more noticeable. The volume factor might be more prominent on someone who has thinner and lighter lashes than I do! Formula aside, I think this mascara could REALLY do with a new brush. The built in one has a tendency to pick up a load of product on one side, but barely any on the other. I end up with clumpy and spidery lashes if I don't roll my brush while brushing through, or I have to go over with a new mascara brush afterwards. Not pretty. Fortunately, just a simple twist of the brush makes brushing out those clumps super easy. But, I really hate to guess which side of the brush I should use or have to wipe all the product onto a tissue every time I want to apply mascara! It should be a no brainer! I store my mascara upright too, so it can't be the formula gathering all on one side of the tube, either. Nonetheless, I love this mascara for every day looks. The formula really cant't be beat for something I paid from the drugstore, so I highly recommend it (yes, even those who are packaging suckers like me) for everyone to try out!

  • Wet n Wild Color Icon Blush

The drugstore is seriously spoiling me with so many great products. Wet n Wild, specifically, blew me out of the water with this blush! Where do I even start? The formula is so smooth, so pigmented, and just so luxurious, I can't really describe these without comparing them to high end brands like NARS or Mac. No joke! These are that amazing! This blush is finely milled, and is so silky smooth. Even when swatching it on my hand, I get amazing pigmentation with just one swipe through with my finger. Actually, I might even complain that these are too pigmented! I tried the color Berry Shimmer, which is an amazingly rich berry red/rose shade with fine golden shimmer. It really is a wonderful shade for fall and winter that looks incredible with my golden skin tone. One very light dip can easily completely my whole face. I recommend a super light hand when handling this shade, because it could easily deposit too much product on the cheeks! One application in the morning will last me a good way through lunchtime (I do have an oily face, and neither high end nor drugstore blush has every lasted past 4 o'clock for me), which is pretty great in my book! I do wish that the little black brush included was removed from the packaging and replaced with one better, or just more blush per package. While the blush is amazing, the included brush is just a hassle. Too stiff and small, it takes up space in the container and sometimes loses little black hairs into the blush. I also wish Wet n Wild come out with more shades in the line! Currently, there are only four available, and all of them are pretty similar to to some that NARS has in their lines (and dare I say, dupes?). I purchased this for about $3.00 at my local CVS, and I'm seriously considering going back for more. If you haven't tried this blush, run out and do so now!

  • Real Techniques Powder Brush

    Real Techniques Powder Brush

    So Soft and Amazing!

This brush has gotten so many rave reviews, it almost seems redundant to add another! The synthetic bristles are seriously soft, fluff and dense, but also not so dense that they kick up serious dust whenever I drag them through my powders. No matter what I’ve tried it with, be it mineral foundation, bronzer, setting powder, or even blush in emergencies, this brush gets it done. Flawlessly. I’m convinced that this brush is made with magic. Everything about it is perfectly designed! Even the handle is just the perfect thickness to sit comfortably with my hand, and gripping isn’t a problem because of the slight curve. The bottom is flat and can easily sit on a countertop without me having to lay it down on something unsanitary; not to mention it even helps keep the clutter around my sink down to a minimum. Washing this brush doesn’t cause any of the bristles to come loose, and it also quickly dries back into its original shape. My only complaint is that because the handle is wide and doesn’t taper into a point like most other makeup brushes, I find that it’s hard to store in my makeup jars or bag. Also, the end is coated in a matte texture similar to that of NARS packaging (which I am assuming is because it helps the brush not to slip and topple over when stood up on a flat surface), which means that one section gets dusty and gross with odd makeup products after a while. However, none of these are deal breakers, especially considering how reasonably priced the entire line of Real Techniques brushes is. Everyone needs to at least try this brush for its price and its soft bristles, so stop reading and go buy this now! It’s just too good to miss!

  • Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick

This is, hands down, my favorite drugstore lipstick. Actually, it can't be said that they're a traditional lip stick; more of a lipstick-lip balm hybrid. They have the feel and moisturizing properties of a high end lip balm, but the color of a lipstick. I believe VERY tinted lip balm would be a better name, perhaps? Like I said, this formula is to die for. Especially for those who don't like the feel of lipstick, but still likes wearing them every day, like me! These don't have the intensive pigmentation like any lipstick on the market, but they are super buildable on the lips so they can be use for just about any look you can think of. The feel is luxurious when applied, and keep my lips soft and more moisturized than any other drugstore lipstick I've tried. Buttery and emollient in texture, I don't have to tug or drag when putting it on my lips, nor do I have to worry about my hair getting stuck in it when the wind blows. Staying power is pretty nice too, lasting me till midday after a few snacks and beverages in between. Even when the lipstick actually disappears, I'm left with a flush that looks great without that funny ring of color on my lips until I want to reapply. I really can't say enough good things about this product. Every color I picked up looks beautiful on, and can be used for a simple sheerer look during the day, then intensified for a more more colored lip during the night. Packaging wise, I love how Revlon keeps it simple and classic with black and a gold band, but also the clear window up top so I can easily identify what color is in what tube. That little window was also a great help when shopping for new shades in the drugstore! It's the small things that count right? I hope Revlon never removes these from their line. There are so many colors I haven't tried yet!
