  • Clairol Natural Instincts Semi-Permanent Hair Color

I just dyed my hair with this last night, a medium auburn color since I wanted to see what a little red may do for me and I like the fact that this dye is not permanent. It came with 2 sets of flimsy gloves, hair color with developer, after color conditioner and a refresher - color-depositing conditioner to use 2 weeks. It was cheap, especially with a CVS coupon. But you get what you pay for. The smell is strong and nasty chemical-y, not pleasant. The formula was drippy and hard to apply. Took a shade past infinity to get out, too. But I really liked the after color conditioner, which smells fantastic and made my hair as smooth as a baby seal. The morning after wasn't too great. Color is too dark to be a medium and I already have dark hair, but it looks slightly over dyed. I'm hoping to remedy that with a good shampoo tomorrow. I plan on using the refresher, though. It did not cover much greys, even though I don't have a lot. It blended some of them in, though. This dye is just so-so to me. Probably will look for something better when it's time to hit the bottle again.

  • The Body Shop Body Butter

    The Body Shop Body Butter

    This just makes my day!

I have used these for years now for my dry, sometimes flaky skin and I can't be without them. They are the best body moisturizer on the market today, in my humble opinion. I've tried many a body butter, but this just does it for me. It has a buttery, sumptuous consistency that just sinks right in and moisturizes the heck out of your skin while leaving it looking completely glowing and healthy. Dry skin disappears at the drop of a hat with this stuff. My favorite scent is Coconut, but I also love the Mango, Cranberry Joy, Satsuma, Pink Grapefruit ones too. The Coconut one makes me feel like I'm laying on a beach on a warm day, listening to the waves come in. I'm dying to try the peach and cocoa ones. They are not tested on animals (woo hoo!), use Fair Trade ingredients, and are luxurious. I keep the small ones in my bag for my hands since they are also the best hand moisturizer I've ever found that is not too greasy. They also make perfect stocking stuffers and gifts, too - I've given them before and got thank yous. The big body butters start at $20 but they last months and months. I also watch out for Groupons and LivingSocial vouchers for The Body Shop (just purchased 2 in the past several months! Yes!) and match those up with their awesome sales, so I pay less for luxury. I am officially addicted!

  • Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain

Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain

    Absolutely gorgeous, sheer color

I am so impressed by these! The chubby stick is just adorable and takes seconds to apply. I just swipe some on while at a red light in traffic on my way to work and it instantly brightens and prettifies my face. I got Romantic, which is just an awesome shade. It is reddish-coralish to me, slightly bright but immensely flattering. The formula just glides on like a dream and is defining yet natural at the same time. It's slightly glossy too and moisturizing. The color doesn't seem to really stain quite a bit, but it does leave a very pretty, faint color on your lips. I did have to reapply a time or two, but it's a pleasure to reapply. I also dab a little on my cheeks for a great blush/stain!! It actually lasts longer that way than on the lips. I hope they never stop making this in this color. Or you will see a grumpy girl!

  • Physicians Formula Organic Wear Tinted Moisturizer

I was excited to try this product since it's organic and I've heard good things about it. I got the light shade and after giving it a chance or two, I ended up just throwing the tube away. It's very unpleasant for me. It has an astringent-like quality, like someone poured some witch hazel in the formula, and it is not gentle to the skin. It slightly stings and smells medicinal. It's also too runny and made my face look like an oil slick. I like to look glowy, so I use moisturizing products with wild abandon, but this just looked gross. I immediately began searching my beauty stash for a little loose powder to soak up the grease. It didn't seem to cover much either. I used it around my eyes and big mistake - they teared up all over the place and reddened. I usually use Garnier BB Cream as a tinted moisturizer, and this is usually fine around my eyes, even gentle. This is not worth the buy. If I could give it negative stars, I would!

  • Lancome Bi-Facil Double-Action Eye Makeup Remover

Lancome Bi-Facil Double-Action Eye Makeup Remover

A tad too oily but very effective for waterproof make-up

This is by far the best waterproof eye makeup remover I've ever found so far. I don't always wear waterproof eye makeup, but when I have to remove it, I feel it to be a major pain in the butt. I recently read that Lady Gaga supposedly uses tape to remove her heavy-duty eye makeup, but I don't know about that! Not wanting to endure something quite so dramatic, I opt for this. It has a faintly roseish scent, very pleasant and appropriate for fancy skin care items. I put it on a cotton round, lightly press for a few seconds to let it seep in and works its magic, and it instantly whisks away all traces of heavy duty eye makeup. It doesn't irritate my sensitive eyes either. It is a little bit too oily in my opinion, but the oily feel probably aids in getting all that eyecrud off!

  • Boscia MakeUp-BreakUp Cool Cleansing Oil

I got a deluxe sample of this through Sephora and I am convinced that I will spring for the $26 bottle! Some of the cleansing oils out there seem pricey, but this one, along with DHF's, is worth the hype. This cleansing oil makes my skin feel sparkling clean, gets every little swipe of eye makeup without irritation (even my favorite glitter eyeliner) and softens my face while making it feel refreshed, almost like I've been to a spa for a treatment. I like that Boscia's products are natural and without parabens, too. Worth the buy!

  • Boscia Enlivening Amino-AG Eye Treatment
    4.0

    Boscia Enlivening Amino-AG Eye Treatment

Did not lighten or brighten, not worth the price

Ok, to be fair, undereye circles are often caused by several factors - allergy sufferers like myself, genetics (yep), lack of sleep (ditto) and age (getting there). So I'm the harshest critic of any product that claims to significantly brighten up undereye circles the way that a Benedryl or two and some hardcore, restful sleep can. This product, however, is a somewhat decent eye cream. I received a deluxe sample through the Beauty Insider program at Sephora, but I doubt I'd actually run out and buy the full tube. I just didn't really see much of a difference and even though it proclaims to be light, it still made my eye makeup smear even after I waited for it to sink in (which seemed forever). So enlivening - nope, not really. It also claims to firm the area which I didn't notice. If I continue using the sample, I will probably just use it at night time instead of twice daily. I don't think it's truly worth its $38 price tag at Sephora since you'd probably get the same results patting a drugstore brand eye cream on your eyes.

  • Sephora Instant Moisturizer

My dry, sensitive skin just loves the heck out of this stuff. I got a full-sized jar in a holiday set last year from Sephora that came with a forgettable, runny moisture serum. This is some luxurious facial moisturizer, let me tell you. I use it day and it is strong enough for a night moisturizer. It's not greasy at all, but sumptuous and really sinks in. It has a natural ingredient in it called HydroSenn+ that is supposed to be even more effective than hyaluorinic acid at retaining moisture. It even has a little anti-oxidant action and a radiance booster with line minimizing pigments to boot. It makes my skin look so healthier and plumps up those dumb little lines setting in. I don't have many wrinkles yet since I'm 36, avoid the sun like a vampire, don't smoke and moisturize like there's no tomorrow, but this product certainly helps in the process too. It vanquishes my dry skin very effectively and I feel so smooth and lovely after using it. Love it!

  • Garnier Skin Renew Miracle Skin Perfector BB Cream SPF 15

I've been using this BB cream for almost 2 years now, and whenever I use it (practically every single day), I get compliments on my "china doll" complexion. I have kinda pale skin but with a yellowish undertone to it, and I usually get the Light/Medium shade and it works well. I like the fact that it has SPF 15 in it and I love the fresh green tea-ish smell. It's also on the thick side, but it glides on and does a great job on evening out my skin and providing slight coverage. I look so much healthier with it on. It seems to blur the imperfections a bit and makes me all glowy, which I like since I have dry as a bone skin and I'm knocking at 40's door. It's not heavy feeling to me at all. It seems to moisturize very well thanks to the hyaluronic acid and glycerin in it and brighten it up satisfactorily with the mineral pigments and vitamin C. It definitely prevents the winter's sallowness. I can't really vouch for the "miracle" renewing aspects of the cream, though. It didn't really seem to actually perfect the integrity of my skin like a good anti-aging product would but my skin definitely looks better when it's on. When I take it off, I don't really notice it diminishing fine lines or unevenness. I think it's fine for wearing if you don't have a lot of sun exposure, like me driving to and from work, dashing out to the grocery store but I wouldn't rely on it for prolonged sun exposure. Seems a little wimpy for that. I use Alba Botanica Hawaiian Sunscreen SPF 45 for more SPF power if I need it (too bad it's unavailable for me to review!). I think it's worth the $10-12 price tag, especially using my $3.50 off $10 coupon with Ulta and stocking up when they have Garnier buy one, get one 1/2 off. The tube lasts me over a year, and I use it nearly every single day.

  • Origins Modern Friction Nature's Gentle Dermabrasion

I used to get this awesome microdermabrasion scrub when it was in the jar, but I rather like the handy tube since it's less messy and easier to work with in the shower! I've been a longtime customer of Origins and was thrilled when this came on the market. I am such a fan of their products, that about 8-9 years ago, I got a part-time job (in addition to my regular job) so I could score gratis products and discounts. I gave up the part-time job years ago but still remain an enthusiastic consumer since all of their products are high quality and naturally derived, and they just make you feel so good all over! Modern Friction is made with rice starch, which tackles the exfoliation process, lemon oil to help lighten dark spots and even skin tone (and provide anti-oxidant anti-aging power), and aloe to soothe. It's by far the most thorough, enjoyable facial exfoliator that I've ever used. When I worked at Origins back in the day, they had a mini-seminar on how to use it effectively. First, start with a clean, dry face/neck/decollete (also works phenomenally on elbows) and use about a dime-sized dollop of the product. Smooth it onto your skin working in circular motions until it feels slightly dryish. Then use a little warmish water and keep lightly scrubbing (it will slightly lather). The product forms a bit of a thin paste this way. Then rinse with lukewarm water. My face feels as smooth as a baby's bottom! Makes my moisturizer really glide on and skin in. My skin is on the sensitive side, so I only use twice a week. Sometimes, I forget to use it as often, but it will still perform remarkably. It does seem to lighten the dark spots a little and make everything smoother and fresh-looking. I always look a little more well-rested after I use it. I am completely satisfied with it!
