  • Rimmel London Lycra Lash Extender Mascara

I have long and thin lashes, and about half what I had in my twenties (my lashes used to be my best feature) Pros: -Smell is fine -Brush is very nice: I prefer these 'old school' bristles to the ones that look like plastic, which hurt my eyes when I use it close to the lash base. Plus this one has a lot of bristles: I find that in this case, less product is applied at once, which I prefer. -Very natural look -Good separation (for all mascaras, I wipe the brush on a tissue first and only one coat) -The wand is not too long -The brush is not too long for my small eyes -The smell is nice and subtle -The cap is cute and helps gripping the wand Cons: -It's so natural looking that behind glasses, it almost doesn't show up. I'd recommend this for week-end, errands, work if you prefer a quiet look. -Poor volume, even if I use zig-zag moves during application. When I simply brushed my lashes, I couldn't see any difference at all. Please note that I only use one coat. It might be buildable, I'll try and report later. Summary: Very nice natural-looking mascara, especially for the price. For an evening or falsies look, you'll have to use another mascara or use a volumizer mascara on top of this one.

  • Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blush

One of my absolute HG blushes, along with this same product in the shade Glisten! It is far and away the best blush I have ever used, including powders, creams, and tints (and yes, NARS) It comes off as a very natural flush on my cheeks, especially this shade on my pale skin, is well pigmented, and lasts for a very long time! Unlike a lot of negative reviews I've seen, I don't find this product to be chalky at all, and it spreads and blends like an absolute dream-- even better than my Urban Decay shadows! But buyers, be warned! It takes somebody with very fair and clear skin to wear this particular shade well. If you want to try this blush, but are afraid that you don't meet that criteria well enough, I would recommend this product in the shades Exposed or Glisten, which are both great neutrals that would fit a wide variety of skin tones! Because of this, I would not recommend this exact blush to just anybody-- only people with similar complexions to mine. The two shades mentioned above, however, I would tell anybody to buy!

  • Maybelline New York One by One by Volum' Express Washable Mascara

I got this after asking my friend what mascara she uses and she said the One by One. I always admired how her lashes looked. So long and separated. Just the look I love. So I bought this and for the first month or so it looked great on me, although it did flake sometimes but it didn't really bother me because it didn't flake a lot. It curled my lashes and made them long and pretty. Something I noticed about the wand was that it was "flimsy", I didn't like that because I wasn't used to it. I like a brush that I can push my lashes against without feeling like the brush won't do anything. I guess the brush it just "lightweight". Another thing is that the brush is never ever fully covered with the mascara, you can see the pink bristles. Another thing, the mascara gives you a natural look. After like 3 weeks the mascara felt drier and it started to flake a lot more. The length of my lashes also dropped throughout the day making them look much shorter (Not a pretty look at all). This mascara doesn't last as long as I like it to. Most mascaras for me last for about 6 months and then I'd have to toss it out but this one I have to toss out right now but I've had it for 3 months which isn't much. I really hoped for this to give me beautiful lashes like it gave my friend. But I guess that's fine because I found better mascaras that I really love

  • Fresh Sugar Icon Tinted Lip Treatment Sunscreen SPF 15

These lip balms were much different than I was anticipating. Like many others, I received a mini duo sampler that included the clear balm and Rose. I instantly fell in love and am now thinking about buying several more colors in the full size. I really love the packaging, a frosted metal lipstick-style tube with a lid that actually screws on for secure closure. When I first opened the tube to inspect, the Rose shade looked bright red in the tube and both smelled like lemon vanilla cookies. That sounds really sweet but the scent is soft, pleasant and not overly synthetic. Smell fades after about an hour. These balms are beeswax based but also contain oils, so they're much more emollient than I thought they'd be. The first time I applied them, they glided on with very little drag, unlike a waxy chapstick. One swipe wasn't enough for me, especially with the Rose shade. I found that several swipes back and forth deposited enough product for me and deepened the rose shade. Pressing my lips together, the balm felt light, slippery and smooth. OH, the rose!!! I really love this shade and the way it looks. The amount of shine falls right in between balm and gloss. The overall look is a moist stain: a bit of shine with a wash of color. Your lips, only better. For me, I get this I've-been-eating-strawberries-all-day look. Of course, these aren't exactly long wearing. Staying power is a little meh for me. They last through a 3 hour class but don't stand up to any eating/drinking. As for moisture, my lips don't get very dry so I can't comment on how these would work for someone with very dry lips. Yes, they are moisturizing but in a different way. They aren't heavy and thick like carmex. With some balms/glosses, after about 2 hours, the product starts to fade or dry out and my lips start feeling rough and a little flaky. That doesn't happen with these. The product fades but I don't get that rough flakiness. Overall, a great product for a subtle, natural look, sleek and classy packaging and a soft, sweet scent. I imagine ladies that like a little something but aren't "make up types" would like these. I often reach for my Rose lip treatment when I'm running errands or going to class wearing just a bit of powder, blush and I got my eyebrows on :P

  • L'Oreal Paris Voluminous Full Definition Mascara

What can I say about this. There isn't a lot not to like. I used to be a high end mascara snob because I felt that it performed better than any drugstore mascara that I could find. So I got away from it. I had used Lancome Definicils for years and then switched to Dior Blackout and used that for years. However, I go through mascara pretty quickly and wanted to find something that I would love that would hurt the purse a little less. So I happened upon this. I find that this is almost a dupe for my Dior and I do use this mascara more than my high end ones now. The formula is just right in my opinion. Lasts all day. It's fairly easy to get off and is pretty easy to work with when you apply it. The finished product is beautiful. As I say with all my mascara reviews, I have naturally long lashes, so I don't need something that lengthens. I like to get mascaras that add volume. So with this I do get a soft voluminous effect and I get tons of compliments on how great my lashes look when I wear this. People who know me know that I always used expensive mascara so the looks of utter shock and surprise when I tell them what it is is quite amusing. I hate mascara that clumps and flakes. This doesn't have terrible flaking when it's new. I find that I actually get some clumping and flaking as it gets a little older, which is how I know it's probably time for a new one. But at that price, I almost don't care if I am not quite all the way through the tube yet. I keep a spare in the house at all times and I have probably gone through about 5 tubes of this already. This is my favorite mascara to travel with. I brought this with me to a week long trip to Savannah, GA in July and with the heat and humidity, it held up amazingly well. So much so that I took it to the Dominican Republic with me the following April. After a night of dancing and heat and sweating, again, it didn't let me down. I rarely like to travel with my expensive cosmetics for fear that I will lose, damage, or maybe it gets confiscated somehow. I have heard horror stories! I know I would be pretty mad if I was out nearly $30 on a tube of mascara! So this takes the stress out and it does what it's supposed to with a really convenient easy to handle price point. I will definitely keep repurchasing this.

  • Rosebud Perfume Co. Smith's Rosebud Salve Tin

Price range: They say it's $3-8. I bought the Smith's Rosebud Salve online for $3.89, the usual price of this Rosebud Salve would be $6 at Sephora or more at Anthropologie. Many years ago, my cousin had been using this Rosebud Salve as her lip balm and I was a bit turned off by anything rose, so I didn't really have a good first impression. I don't think I even smelt it before...maybe had seen the rosey pink hue of the lip balm...but yeah, I knew of its existence. Recently, I had been looking for something to use for my nail cuticles because the Burt's Bees Lemon Butter Cuticle cream wasn't quite working for me. I did my research and learned that Smith's Rosebud Salve is a multi-purpose product. Then I saw on Sephora's website, that Smith's not only had the original Rosebud Salve, they also had a Strawberry flavor and a Mint flavor. Then I found a tin that had all three of those flavors in a tin box for $11.19 (on sale) and I had to get it and try it out. I read about the salve and how you can use it for your dry nail cuticles, as a lip moisturizer, face moisturizer, blemishes, as a hair pomade to smooth out frizzes and etc. It works pretty good. I used to remove make up last night and it worked pretty well. I slather a thin layer on my face and take a cotton ball to remove the make up and it works. I found that once the salve had absorbed into the skin, it makes my skin feel so supple and soft. Very hydrated and my skin felt good. The PMS pimples I had also healed and lost the zit pain. Some people might not like using their fingers to use the salve, and I have small make up spatulas to use it. But if I'm using it as a lip balm alone, I wouldn't care if I used my fingers. I would just use my pinky finger or ring finger on my left hand because those fingers don't get used as often. Yes, I'm right handed. Anyways, I knew I would like the salve, so I bought the 3 Layer Lavish tin and a loner Smith Salve. I love how small and compact the tin container is. It actually has more product than Nivea Lip Butter lip balm as the Smith Rosebud Salve has a deeper pot than the Nivea one. I own both products and love both. Yeah, sometimes it is hard to open if your hands has something on it. Scent - The scent is very soft and not overwhelming as I had first thought it might be, but when I opened it and smelt it, it's not a strong scent. I like that it absorbs into your skin after a couple of minutes of wearing it on your lips or on your skin and it makes your skin feel super soft. It's no wonder it is a cult favorite. It is well worth the hype. I can't wait to try the other flavors. I will wait to use it all and most definitely repurchase it.

  • CHI Silk Infusion

Let me start with saying that the fantastic rating is for Chi's OLD formula of Chi Silk Infusion (the amber colored serum.) The new formulation hasn't done any harm to my hair, but it just doesn't work the wonders that the original does. I'm so dedicated to the old formula that I stock up when I find it. Here's a great tip if you want to know whether you are buying/have bought the old or new formula: the old formula's bottle is slightly goldish tinged (you can tell because the bottom of the bottle should be silver) and it will have a shorter serial number (printed on the bottom of the bottle.) The newer version comes in a more silvery bottle (no yellowish tinge!) and has a longer serial number. I often find both new and old formulas in the same store, you just have to go through the bottles on the shelf if you want a specific formula. This is also useful if you are buying online from a retailer that offers returns (hopefully free.) You can check the color of the bottle and the serial number before breaking the seal! I hope this helps anyone looking for answers about the old and new formulas :)

  • Goody Ouchless Elastics

I have been using Goody hair products for decades now; this is my own personal favorite purchase. These hair elastics do not have any metal on them, therefore, will not tear out any of your hair while gathering it up into a different style. You can easily slip these back out too without having to unwind them too carefully; totally "Ouchless" and I love that. My hair is quite long; while working around the house, or going out, I usually have one wrapped around my wrist to easily pull my hair out of the way. I wear it in ponytails, braids or really any quick updo and find that the Goody brand has the best amount of elastic that does not snap back or snap apart. This product does well with very thick to thin hair also, and holds it fast. I like the all-black elastics for myself, although these do come in several other colors so you have other choices also.

  • Benefit Bella Bamba Blush

I love this blush! I was hesitant to buy it because it was $28. I went back & forth for about 3 weeks before I decided to pull the trigger & buy it. One thing that helped me make my decision was that this comes with .28 oz of blush. I looked at my Physicians Formula blush & it has .15 oz & costs $12 - $13 (although I usually get it on sale) & I looked at a Maybelline LE blush that I love (& stocked up on) & it only has .09 oz & it was around $8. So in terms of price per ounce, this is just slightly more money. BUT...the pigmentation is so good that I just do one good tap with my brush into this for each cheek. I don't have to go back to pick up more color. So since I don't have to use as much, this will last me a long time, so in the long run, it will cost less. Don't you love the way I justify my purchase? Lol! If you're fair, I would suggest a very light hand, just using a light tap to pick up your color, otherwise it will probably be too dark...so that'll last you fair skinned ladies even longer! ;) I know some people don't like the packaging because it's in a box, but since this is a very soft blush, & puts out a lot of dust, it's contained within the box, & not all over your countertop. So I personally like that it's in a box. This is a beautiful medium to dark pink blush with a little bit of gold shimmer. It's not a glittery shimmer, & not a bunch, but just enough to give your skin a pretty glow. The staying power is definitely better than my Maybelline blushes...those seem to fade after 3-4 hours tops, & also lasts longer than my PF blush which lasts about 6 hours before it fades to nothing. This lasts me at least 8 hours before it fades, but even then I can still see it but it's just faded to a lighter color. I will definitely buy this again when I run out but that will be a long time!

  • Yves Saint Laurent Glossy Stain

This is my HG lip product. I want ALL OF THE SHADES! I work in a store that sells it and I have tried almost every color. I have a wishlist in my phone of Glossy Stain shades I want to buy that's about a mile long. It is very pigmented yet very glossy. It usually lasts 5 hours or more for me, even after eating and drinking. The smell is a kind of rosy sweet smell which I know some people hate, but I personally love it. I can't buy MAC lip products because of that godawful vanilla scent and I know some people don't mind or even like that, so to each her own. The scent is definitely powerful though. It can be layered for an even more saturated look. I do not blot this or rub my lips together after application because the SA told me that it will decrease the glossiness and I have found that to be true. I usually apply it twice a day. Once at the beginning of my 8 hour shift and then once more about halfway through, usually after lunch. It last pretty well through a meal but I do like to refresh it. I don't find it drying, but I've found that if you wear it every single day you might experience increased dryness on your lips. I try to use a lot of Burt's Bees on my days off to help with that. I also live in a very dry climate so that is probably part of the problem. The texture can be a little sticky but overall I find it less sticky than most glosses. I really can't adequately express how much I love this product. I would never in a million years have thought that I would spend $30 on a lipstick until I tried this, but it is absolutely worth the price. My favorite shades: #1 (deep purple) #8 (orange) #12 (coral) #17 (light pink) #20 (sparkly true red) #27 (deep oxblood burgundy) #31 (orange leaning coral red) #105 (the PERFECT my lips but better shade with a subtle gold shimmer) Rose Baby Doll (sadly an LE shade which is no longer available)
