I purchased this hoping to encourage curl and give me some frizz protection during the humid summer months. I was sorely disappointed. This gel is an absolute enigma to me. First of all it leaves your hair crunchy and wet looking (yuck). On my second try with this I dumped some of it into a separate container and watered it down, thinking that perhaps I was just using it to heavily. Same result as the “full strength” version. This is apparently the gel you purchase when you want that wet, crunchy curl look. (I’m not sure who wants that, but it is available if you so desire it). Second of all I cannot understand for the life of me why this comes in a spray. The product is so thick that it is nearly impossible to it to pump. I found the smell pleasant enough, but nothing special. Just something to collect dust until I get around to spending three hours trying to dump it out so I can recycle the bottle.

I love the NYC line. I find it a great way to play around with new products without breaking my budget. This primer has a nice feel and did not break my skin out (which was my main fear in sampling primers). This goes on smoothly and dries quickly (a must for me in the morning). I also enjoyed that it was not overly filled with silicone (or anything that felt silicone). Too many products of these types may help keep makeup in place but make it impossible to blend your makeup over them. I found the mica in it to cause my face to look a little too sparkly. I find that my forehead gets a little too shiny and the sparkly effect just exacerbated this. While the light reflecting is subtle, it seems a bit much for me for day time wear all over my face. After that I started using it on my eyelids, decollate and as a highlighter. I have found that it does a great job of holding eye shadow and liner in place all day even in the heat of summer. The shimmer effect is nice on your chest and shoulders in bare summer tops. I think this is product is misnamed in calling it a primer. It does help hold makeup in place but does not really do much in terms of making your skin look smoother, or reduce the appearance of pores and it is certainly not great looking on wrinkles or any of the other primer hype that you hear. I found this to be a nice addition to my makeup regime, but not really the primer I was hoping for. Given the price (less than five dollars) it is certainly worth giving a try, but I would not recommend it to replace a primer that you already enjoy.

I got this gel in an attempt to replace the root lifter gel. I have frizzy, wavy hair that is very thick and the weight of my hair can often leave me with a very flat top of my head and super frizz on the bottom. It has been very hot and humid for the past two weeks so my testing of this gel has definitely been under the most extreme conditions (it is rainforest humid right now). I have been pleased with the results. It does not require much of the product for results, which is nice because there is nothing I hate more than crusty, wet looking hair. This has a nice, gentle hold to it, the frizz is kept at bay and my hair moves in the breeze. I have used this before I blow dry straight and when I air dry for curls. It has worked remarkably well in both scenarios. I also used it when touching up on day two of a blow dry. I did accidently use a little too much one day and while my hair felt fine, I was feeling pretty desperate to wash my scalp for the rest of the day. So this is definitely a less is more type of gel. I find that this gel gives me nice volume and it does hold all day (even if you touch your hair a million times a day, like I do). It also has a nice smell and it does seem to dry quickly (even when air drying). I would recommend this product as it does what it claims and considering the price that would be hard to beat, it certainly cannot be beat by some of the competitors’ similar products that I tried recently. Not exactly a root lifter replacement, but certainly a good alternative.

This cleansing conditioner works great! I have thick yet fine, curly/wavy, dry, frizzy hair and I live in a humid climate (at least in the summer). I have tried just about everything in search of “normal” summer hair. My search usually results in my hair looking incredibly greasy or incredibly frizzy. The cleansing conditioner seems to have solved this issue. This product does take some getting used to. The package says to use three to four pumps. I would recommend doing these pumps one at a time. The first time I used it I pumped four pumps into my hand and then began trying to work it through my hair. This resulted in a great deal of product where I started and a good deal of difficulty moving throughout the rest of my hair. I would also recommend starting this product on the heels of whatever clarifying routine you practice. I was so excited to try this that I decided to skip my overdue clarifying and I wasn’t thrilled with the initial results. The conditioner does have a tingling sensation (like medicated Chap Stick) on your scalp if you leave it on for the recommended two minutes. I like this sensation because it made my scalp feel like it was getting clean despite the lack of suds. The smell is fine, but not the traditional Pantene smell that I was so hoping for. Your hair also does not seem to hold the smell as long as with the traditional Pantene shampoo and conditioner. I have found that the conditioning this offers is excellent and I have found my hair (I can’t believe I am going to say this) manageable. I would caution anyone who is looking at this product from the save time because it is a two in one. To ensure that your scalp is covered and then to leave for two minutes, I found takes the same amount of time I would normally spend on using two products. I highly recommend this product for those with frizzy, dry hair.

I was skeptical of Dual Finish when I first heard about it. Generally I have not had the best luck with products that can be used dry or wet, or anything the fits into the two in one category. I was pleasantly surprised when I tried Dual Finish. This product gives excellent coverage. I typically do not require a ton of coverage so I just use the dry option with the sponge that is provided. This foundation also works well over a liquid foundation. I have tried it wet and the effect is pretty but a little more than I desire. I always keep a compact of this in my purse (even if I am wearing something other than Dual Finish) because I know with a few swipes I can get my complexion looking great. The shade selection is great, it really seems like they have a lot of options for a number of skin tones. Great product.

I generally hate to wear lipstick. I am so aware of something being on my lips that I feel distracted by it. This lipstick is totally different from that. It has a nice lightweight texture and doesn’t feel like your lips are being suffocated. I think the long silver packaging is good looking. The “Black Honey” color is great. When you look at in in the tube you think it is going to be some sort of horrid, purple Goth color. But the color is sheer and mixes well with your own color. I have several girlfriends of varying skin tones and we are all able to wear “Black Honey”. This lipstick also gives your lips a bit of moisture. I also enjoy the amount of shine this provides. It gives you some shine but does not cross over into the totally high gloss shine. I would recommend this lipstick to anyone.

Where mess on the counter meets mess on your face
What a waste of money. I am a Bare Minerals fan, but I am also a fan of a deal so I thought I would give this a try. The applicator brush is stiff and feels horrible on your skin. It is also difficult to hold on top and doesn’t really work well with the product itself. In general I found the packaging difficult to deal with. The bottle with the cap on made it too tall to stand in my makeup drawer so it was always on its side, which only increased the messiness of the whole endeavor. Since the brush is also the lid you inevitably get makeup all over your hands each time you open it. The brush seemed to cause the powder to go on in a streaky mess. So I gave up on the provided brush and pulled out one of my clean Lancôme brushes and started again the following day. Surely an expensive brush from the sister company would improve this experience. Still a total streaky unblendable mess. I went for the lightest shade available, which I thought given the wide variety of shades, would be pale enough for me (a theory that generally works). The color was absolutely horrible. When wearing this not only do you feel like you are wearing a mask, you look like it too. A chalky, fake tan mask. It doesn’t really mix or blend with your skin; it just sits on top making you look like you made your own make up. Truly an awful foundation and I am typically a fan of L’Oreal. I usually take the approach of different strokes for different folks, but I am at a loss as to whom this would work for. Budget for Bare Minerals it is a much more rewarding experience.

I really love the “Islands in the Stream” color. It is super hard to find a good green liner in the cheap brands. And I go through eyeliner so quickly I would need a second job to fund my eyeliner needs if I went too much more expensive. I find that this one wears well and comes in a good variety of colors. The texture is creamy and nice. You tend to go through the eyeliner rather quickly since it is only a half size. I also tend to end up having to throw away the black end since I go through the colored side much quicker and now have a life time supply of black half eyeliners. This is a great eyeliner for the price. Since the price is so low it also a great way to be adventurous and try a color you might not normally try. A great way to experiment.

The felt tip pen makes this so easy to use. I love the variety of colors. It is so nice to be able to get that fine tip right along your eyelashes. Since it comes in some more subtle colors, other than just the classic black, you can actually wear this on a softer makeup day. I particularly like the olive green color. I get the precision of the liquid liner but not necessarily the heavy cat eye. Also if you take one of the lighter, shimmery colors and layer eye shadow over it you can create the neatest mermaid shades ever! It can create some pretty dramatic looks for those of you who aren’t afraid of color. I find this eyeliner wears well, you just have to be careful to wait for it to dry before batting your eyelashes too much. This is also a great liquid liner if you are nervous about trying a liquid liner. The fine tip makes it easy to slowly widen the area so you don't accidently cover your entire lid. I also would recommend this liner to anyone who wants a really fine line. The fine tip does not require sharpening and you can use it and create the perfect fill in of your lashes. While the price on this is high, it really is the only way to go for liquid eyeliner.

Dove soap is an absolute must have for me. If I was shipwrecked on a desert island I would hope my Dove soap in its travel case would wash ashore. The scent is heavenly. It is how clean should smell! It is super gentle and never dries my skin out. It is an absolute must have!
