    M.A.C. Eye Shadow

This is what MAC is famous for!

My absolute favorite eyeshadow brand. True to color (what you see in the pot is what you get on your lids), highly pigmented intense colors, and a breeze to blend. When it comes to color selection, nothing beats MAC for its vast array of beautiful colors in all finishes imaginable to suit every skin tone. I have so many of these eye shadows that I lost track of the names but my "go to" shadows are Quarry, Paradisco, Soft Brown and Amber Lights AND especially Satin Taupe which I wear almost everyday. You can mix and match any of the colors to make your own, unique look. The possibilities are endless. Quality wise, I prefer their mattes and veluxe pearl finishes over the others. Length of wear is great, especially with UDPP as base. It literally lasts all day on me without creasing and by the end of the work day, it still looks like I just applied it. I don't have to take the shadows with me in my bag because I don't have to touch it up. You can wear it dry for a subtle look or wet for a very bold look. I like to buy the de-potted refill ones so I can just drop it into my 4 palette pan for when I travel. Unfortunately the color swatches on their website isn't very accurate. You need to go see it for yourself in person to truly appreciate the color. At $14, it isn't cheap by all means but the quality, performance and colors make this so worth it.

Yves Saint Laurent Touche Eclat All-Over Brightening Pen

Better as a highlighter than a true concealer

I was initially excited about this product, seeing as it has a pin-point tip for very precise application. My idea was to apply it to some hyperpigmented spots I had on my face left over from monthly breakouts. Although I found a color to match my skin tone, the coverage isn't opaque enough to mask those dark spots from healed acne. The coverage is at best, moderate. I found it more useful as a highlighter instead, which I didn't purchase the product for. Lasting power is great btw, but if I can't use it for its intended purpose which was to cover up dark spots, then it's basically useless to me. I gave it to my mom instead and she actually likes it so I guess it isn't really a waste. If you're going to shell out this much money for the product thinking it will cover all those dark spots really well, you might want to look elsewhere.

  • Benefit Benetint Lip & Cheek Stain

I really wanted to like this stain as I've heard about the glowing reviews from people but I find the color doesn't suit my skin with yellow undertones very well. It was way too fuchsia- pink. I used it on my lips but no matter how little/how much I apply, the color is just not suitable for me but on my friend who happens to have pink undertone to her skin, it suits her extremely well. I tried it on the cheeks but found it dries way too fast and if you don't blend it in right away, you will be left w/ streaks of pinkish-red color. The applicator is also somewhat of a hassle. I'm not too fond of brush type applicators like the one that comes with this product because it's a bit too clumsy to use, especially on cheeks. It's so much easier to just put the product on your fingers and apply it that way. I find that on the lips, the tint doesn't last as long and oily foods remove it completely. On the cheeks, staying power is alright. As far as color selection goes, they need to make more colors geared towards skin with warm undertones. I'm aware of the new one they came out with which is the Posie tint but it's just a variation of the same kind of pink, just lighter in color.

    Sephora Colorful Pearl Mono Eyeshadow

    Gives a very sheer finish

I have the Chrome #5, a mauve with gold shimmer. The color is very sheer when used dry but can be applied wet to give a bolder, more defined color. I prefer using it as an overall base slightly wet over a primer like UDPP because it's a bit too sheer for me when it's dry. Done this way, it gives the shadow more "pop" and the primer makes it last longer. It has a very slight gold shimmer and depending on the angle of light, it can look more purple or more gold-ish. It's not a bad eye shadow, especially for the price although don't expect this to have as high a color pay-off as more expensive brands.

    Stila Convertible Eye Color

Eyeliner part had no staying power

I really wanted to like this product for its "no-brainer" convenience of having an eyeshadow and matching liner all in one pen casing that comes with a blender tool. The two colors I got (Ivy and Clove) are beautiful on my skin tone. The eyeshadow part is good and can be used on the entire lid but sadly, the eyeliner portion didn't last long on me at all. It went on smooth enough (though it could be better) but after a couple of hours, seemed to have melted right off my lids necessitating re-application. I have used better automatic liners that lasted much longer than this did.

  • Stila Lip Glaze

    Stila Lip Glaze

    Glue-like stickiness

Because the product is so thick and sticky, it takes forever to come out on to the applicator. I had to click at least 3 times and only then did the product start oozing out. But then...too much of it came out! It did last a bit longer than some lip glosses but this is because it's sticky. The consistency almost reminds me of MAC's Lipglass and I had to wear my long hair pulled back to avoid hair sticking to my lips. The gloss comes in a vast array of colors and scents which is a plus. My main gripe about it is the price. For twenty bucks, there's way too little product in the tube. I realize a little of this goes a long way but come on, this is just ridiculously too little.

    Nars Mascara

    Not that impressive

I really don't see a difference between this and other cheaper mascaras as far as performance is concerned. Made my naturally long lashes clumped and lumped them into sections instead of separating them. As a result, got those spider legs effect thing going which is never a good look unless that's the effect you're going for. This mascara is at best average. The only good thing about it is it didn't flake off in black little specks. Not a repeat buy.

  • bareMinerals Brushless Mascara

    bareMinerals Brushless Mascara

Too much bother than it's worth

Obviously the idea is to apply the mascara with the brushless applicator on sections of your lashes. It's particularly good for those shorter lash hairs that sometimes gets missed by regular mascara wands. While the concept is alright, I find it's too time consuming to do, especially since you have to let each individual sections dry or else you'll risk smearing and/or clumping them up. It would be great if I had all the time in the world but being pinched for time in the morning as it is, I find it so much easier to just use a mascara with regular bristled wand.

    Ulta Moisturizing Liptint SPF 15

    Sheer enough for everyday wear

I love this product. I have one in Amber and Coral. Color is a sheer beautiful tint to your lips that doesn't look overdone or caked on and very moisturizing to boot. It's got just the right amount of sheen to it that leaves your lips non sticky. Very portable and can be placed in your pocket for touch ups. In fact, this is one of few products I don't need a mirror for. The best part? It contains sunscreen to protect your lips from damaging UV rays and for the price, you can't beat that with a stick (no pun intended).

    Stila Cover Up Stick

Would've been better if it lasted longer

I got this to cover up some redness I get from the one or two monthly breakouts.. The pros: Very good color matching. I actually found one with a yellow base that matches my skin well. It also comes in a slim stick form which makes application easier. Cons: Didn't last long. The product seemed as if it melted off of my skin and necessitated re-application. Expensive for the performance. It really isn't too bad of a concealer but I have used better that lasted longer.
