There are two words that best describe this candle – tart and sweet. I know that those sound like a contradiction in terms and they are, but that is what makes this candle smell so good. A pure cranberry smell on its own is very tart and can even lean a little bitter in scent. This candle really captures the cranberry, but the chutney part of the candle is sweet and helps to cut out the bitterness. The result is a smell that I unexpectedly really enjoy. It is unlike any other candle I have smelled, and I really appreciate that unique quality. I tend to burn this most during the fall as it smells fresh but still season appropriate. This candle can get a little heavy if left to burn too long, so I wouldn’t recommend burning it for more than an hour or so. This isn’t one of my favorite scents in the collection, but I certainly do enjoy it!

Let me begin by saying that I love the picture on the candle. It just provides the perfect visual for how the candle actually smells. This candle has a strong vanilla base, but there is something else in it – maybe a little cinnamon – that makes it smell like it is fresh from the oven. It really has a doughy smell to it that makes it a bit lighter than I expected – which is a good thing. It smells sugary but not too sweet and really makes me hungry whenever I burn it. It is a great candle to burn at the holidays, especially as an alternative to the pine and cinnamon based smells. You really can’t go wrong with this candle as it isn’t too heavy or too sweet. It makes a perfect holiday gift for anyone, regardless of gender. I have given it as a Christmas gift to many different people and they all loved it.

Judging by the name of the candle, Vanilla Cupcake, and the picture on the candle, a little cupcake with a whole lot of frosting, one should expect this candle to be sweet. I was not prepared for, however, how incredibly sweet this candle would burn. Good lord it is like sugar in a jar! It is so sweet it is almost sickly smelling. I just really don’t care for it. It also smells fake somehow. This really surprised me as Yankee Candle Company is known for their natural smelling scents. This however smells like the little girl dolls that they scent the plastic to try to make it smell vanilla. It doesn’t smell fresh or natural in any way. It also doesn’t have any fresh baked smell to it like many of the other baked good themed Yankee Candle Co candles. I know this is a very popular candle, but I just don’t care for it.

This candle smells like apples, plain and simple. This is a really great example of truth in advertising. When I smelled the wax, it smelled a little flat to me and maybe a bit too sweet for a macintosh apple. However, the candle burns so much better! It is a little sweet and a little tart. It really smells like you walked into a fresh apple orchard and were going to pick your own apples. It doesn’t get too heavy when it burns and doesn’t smell too sweet either. This is one of the Yankee Candle Company’s oldest scents and I can see why it is a classic. Yankee Candle has produced yet another lovely candle that really evokes the name and label. I also love that that candle is colored the perfect apple red. This would be a really cute gift to give to a teacher, especially if you really played off the apple theme.

I tend to gravitate towards winter and fall appropriate scents that are spicy or food based. Island spa was really out of my “candle comfort” zone. I really loved the candle when I smelled it in store. The wax smells like the beach mixed with some aromatherapy incents. It smelled light and had a touch of sea air to me. However, when I burned it, the complexity was lost. It just smelled heavy and had an odd floral undertone that I hadn’t smelled before. It did smell like a spa, but a spa that was burning too many candles of different scents at one time. It just gave me a headache. It was a real shame as I really wanted to love it, but is just didn’t feel fresh, which is what I was looking for when I purchased the scent. I kept burning the votive to make sure it wasn’t a one time deal and that my sniffer was off, but this is really how the candle burns.

This candle is perfect for the laundry room or kitchen. It really does smell like a balanced combination of citrus and sage. The citrus gives it a light scent that isn’t too sweet or too sour, while the sage gives it a nice homey feel. It makes me want to chop fresh vegetables and really cook when I burn it in my kitchen. The scent is very clean and is really quite fragrant when it burns. That being said, it isn’t overwhelming and builds nicely over time. I have found that my votives tend to lose the citrus component over time and really end up smelling more like sage – which is fine my me. The sage is also more apparent when burning than in the candle wax itself. I must say that I also love the color of this candle. It is so fresh and just perfect for spring and summer!

This is one of my top three favorite Yankee Candle Co scents. It is basically cinnamon and clove in a jar and I just can’t get enough of it. The candle does burn lighter than it smells in the jar, but the fragrance really builds up in the room. You get a strong scent but without it being to heavy or overwhelming. The smell reminds me of my favorite cinnamon spice tea. For me, it is just perfection! Yankee Candle Company also releases this scent during the Holiday season as Festival of Lights. I have contacted the company and the two are indeed the same formula but with different packaging and wax coloration. This is a great scent to try if you like spicy scents that aren’t too heady or overpowering. Perfect for fall and winter or when you need something a bit spicy. Do not buy this if you are not a fan of clove.

This candle does smell like fresh cut roses, but there is something else about it that keeps it from feeling fresh and light. It is almost as if there is a touch of baby powder scent in it. For some reason it smells very mature to me – as in something that I would find in a nursing home. There is a hint of decay in it, like if you left out a vase of roses for too long. Thus, this scent is not one of my favorites. However, I have family members who love this scent and don’t smell the same undertones I do. The candle does burn pretty true to scent though I think it is a bit heavier in the air than in the jar. It certainly does burn very floral as the name would indicate. The color of the candle is the perfect rose pink, which I do appreciate.

This scent is very heady and masculine. To me, it smells like a men’s cologne, with a strong undertone of spice. When I first smelled this candle I thought, “this smells like man.” This surprised me as the name and label photo would indicate that it is fresh and a little woodsy with a bit of dew thrown in for good measure. It does burn VERY very heavy! This is not a candle for the faint of heart or for those who tend to have allergic reactions to a candle. After burning this for about an hour I start to get a headache. If you purchase this in the wrapped votive version, you need to keep it wrapped in a separate plastic bag away from your other votives as it is so strong it will spread its scent to other votives. That being said, it took years for my votive of this to lose its scent. I actually found it became stronger as it aged!

This candle really does remind me of Christmas! I envision snow and presents and a perfectly decorated door when I burn this candle. It is a little less woodsy than Yankee Candle Co’s Balsam and Cedar. It still smells like pine, but also has just a little bit of spice and something else in it reminds me of fresh cut trees. Like the other holiday scents, Holiday Wreath is very complex so I can burn it for quite a while without getting bored. It is more subtle when it burns that the scent of the wax would suggest, which I find to be nice as scents like this can easily become overwhelming. The color of the candle matches the scent perfectly, which I really appreciate. I find that the wax holds the scent for a long time, so this is something you can buy and use year after year without having to buy a new candle.
