  • Tigi Bed Head Big Head Volume Boosting Foam

The texture of this stuff differs from traditional mousse. It's a foam that looks like what comes out of a foaming hands soap dispenser (if that makes sense). The consistency is pretty easy to distribute to wet hair, but I wondered if the recommended one to two pumps was actually enough to get the desired effects. This product provided an instant lift to hair, but it didn't give my strands a va-va-va-voom effect. Left hair touchable and non-greasy/non-sticky!

  • Rituel de Fille Rare Light Luminizer

Apparently, this luminizer is a fave with celebrity MUAs, and I can see why. It imparts a dewy, just short of otherworldly sheen. Personally, I prefer the control and stay power I get with powder highlighters, so I don't reach for this often, but it's a pretty product.

  • Flower Lift & Sculpt Contouring Palette

This palette produced a TON of fall-out, but wasn't terrible. The blush and contour were very pigmented (the bronzer was maybe a little too pigmented, tbh), and the highlighter produced a pretty sheen. Overall not bad for the price (about $13).

  • Smith & Cult Book of Eyes Eye Quad Palette

The colors in this quad are so pretty. I got compliments on my shadow when I wore this. The formula is silky, pigmented and blendable...I just don't know if there's anything about this shadow that makes it special. Also, this is so minor, but the packaging drove my OCD self nuts (the shadow quad is crooked...ostensibly on purpose?)

Smith & Cult B-Line Eye Pens

Not Bad, But There Are Better Liners Out There

I had some trouble drawing a continuous line (especially when navigating the folds of my hooded eye), but ultimately, this isn't bad. It seems to stay in place, and was relatively easy to use. Is it special? Not sure.

  • Ardency Inn Punker Rock On Waterproof Liquid Liner

I agree with a lot of the praise that's been given here. This pen liner goes on smoothly, leaves a lot of pigment and makes it easy to draw a continuous line. My one hesitation: I don't know if it was a fluke, but it did smudge once while I was wearing it, which I feel like shouldn't have happened since it's waterproof. I ultimately will defer to liquid-liner-lovers on this one.

  • EcoTools Perfecting Blender Duo

    EcoTools Perfecting Blender Duo

    Beautyblender Wannabe

You can't blame brands for trying to re-invent the Beautyblender, but I think there's a reason why the Beautyblender stands alone. This duo gives you a larger and a smaller blender -- one for all-over, one for details. This is a good idea in theory, but ultimately I felt a little like Goldilocks, in that neither was *just* right. The shape of these blenders also differs from the Beautyblender: They feature angled edges, which again, seems like a better idea in theory. Because in reality, the sharp edges made it harder for me to maneuver around my face. A for effort, I guess, but ultimately, this set didn't deliver.

  • E.L.F. Beautifully Precise Powder Brush

This brush is so soft and fluffy, which makes it really fun to use. I felt like it didn't pick up as much pressed powder as I'd hoped, but it works well for loose powders (I can't imagine using it for bronzer or blush as suggested on the box -- but maybe if you're going for an all-over bronze?). The price is right, and it's a good-looking tool, considering the measly pricetag.

  • EcoTools Define & Highlight Duo

I really like EcoTools brushes, and this set was no exception. The contour brush was so soft, and the tapered shape made it easy to use with both contour powder and with blush. The fan brush was maybe just a touch larger than I like, but still functional. Overall, this set worked with me.

CoverGirl So Lashy BlastPro Waterproof Mascara

Not CoverGirl's Best, But Not Terrible

I've been a big fan of CoverGirl mascaras in the past (particularly the brand's SuperSizer Mascara), but this one fell short for me. It maybe added some moderate volume to my lashes, but not the effect I was looking for. And while I understand the shape of this wand (there's a ball tip that helps you get the ends of your lashes for extra length), I generally don't like this kind of wand -- on really any mascara.
