  • Real Techniques Starter Set

This is a great set for a makeup beginnger. It takes the guesswork out of which brush is used to do what. Great for learning proper makeup application technique, and priced affordably.

  • Alterna Caviar Moisture Shampoo with Seasilk

I bought this shampoo upon the recommendation of a stylist. I was fascinated by the fact that caviar could be used in a shampoo at all, as I had never even heard of such a thing. I know that marine proteins are supposed to be very good for hair health and growth, so I was very excited to give it a try. I must admit that I balked at the price, but figured that if I would get gorgeous hair out of it, then it would be worth every penny. So, I got home and was super eager to give this stuff a try. A little bit of information about my hair: it is very dry, frizzes unbelievably easy and is so thick that you would think I have the hair of three women on my head. It is medium-long, falling about to three inches beneath my collarbone. I am always trying to grow my hair longer and am willing to spend the money to do it, which is why I bought into this product line. When I stepped into the shower, the first thing I noticed about the shampoo was the scent—it has a difficult to define smell, but it was not too strong and smelled like a higher end perfume. The next thing that I noticed was the lack of lather. I ordinarily use sulfate free shampoos and so am not accustomed to a lot of suds, but this shampoo felt very runny in my fingers and barely made any lather at all. When I went back under the water to rinse it out, it felt sticky, and didn’t rinse clean at all. I kept rinsing and rinsing, but my hair never felt like I got all the shampoo out…it felt like the residue of a cheap soap. Still,.My hair was sticking together in clumps, and was an absolute mess. The huge amount of rinsing dried out my hair. It felt completely wrecked. Avoid this overpriced mess of a product for your hair’s sake!

  • Alterna Caviar Anti-Aging Moisture Conditioner with Seasilk

When I bought this insanely expensive shampoo, I also spent the extra money for the conditioner that goes with it. I do not remember if any additional styling products were available. When I went back under the water to rinse it out, it felt sticky, and didn’t rinse clean at all. I kept rinsing and rinsing, but my hair never felt like I got all the shampoo out…it felt like the residue of a cheap soap. Still, I went ahead and busted out the conditioner, hoping the experience would improve. The conditioner also had a light, fresh smelling scent, which was pleasing to me. However, the consistency fell far below my expectations. I would think that it would be a thick, creamy conditioner, but it felt watery and low quality, like a hand lotion from the dollar store. I spread it into my hair and waited for two minutes, hoping for magic. However, I had the same issue when rinsing that I found when I tried the shampoo—I rinsed and rinsed, but my hair never felt clean. My hair was sticking together in clumps, and was an absolute mess. To get the full experience, I decided to go ahead and style as usual, just to be fair to see the results. What a nightmare. Because I had to rinse so much and for so long, my hair felt even more dried out and stripped. The stickiness did not go away even after I blow dried, and that tacky feeling remained. What a horrible product. Avoid this at all costs—especially since its cost is so high!

  • Garnier Skin Renew Miracle Skin Perfector BB Cream SPF 15

Out of all of the better drugstore brands available, I find that Garnier products tend to give the best results. I have extremely sensitive skin and I really do not care for wearing foundation on a daily basis, so I was a very excited girl when I found out that an affordable BB cream was available. I used to be a devotee of tinted moisturizers, but when I learned about all of theadditional beenfits that BB creams have to offer, I could not wait to give one a try. The first thing I noticed about the Garnier selections was that they have a very limited shade palette. I selected the light-medium shade. When I applied it, I found that it was a very good skin tone match for me. However, that was definitely the most positive thing about this product, other than the price-- I think I paid about ten dollars for this at the local CVS Pharmacy. One thing I did not like about this product is that you must wait between applying this and putting on the rest of your makeup-- unless you want your blush and bronzer to streak. I applied this product with my fingers so that I could blend it in, and I applied it over a bare face with clean skin. I did not use a primer or anything underneath it. It takes a couple of minutes for this to dry. My next complaint with this was in the coverage-- you will absolutely need concealer to camoflague spots and redness, and then you will also need to brush on some powder to deal with the shine. Since it is winter time, I cannot really say whether this gives good sunscreen protection, but I like that it has an SPF included in it. As far as its correcting properties, I did not see any benefit whatsoever. If anything, this product seems to be pretty oily, and I think that it has caused my already sensitive skin to break out pretty badly. This did nothing to fade spots, so if it talks about perfecting skin, I think that it has failed completely in that particular regard. All in all, I would have to call this product a major letdown. It really does not do what it is supposed to do, and it gave itself an awful lot of hype for delivering very little. I would not recommend this product and will never be using it again. I plan to take a trip over to my local Sephora store this afternoon to pick up a better BB cream. Your face is one area on which you just can't cut corners to save a few dollars, and I think that after using this low rate BB cream, that I have learned my lesson. Thank you for nothing, Garnier. Seriously ladies, I think that the new BB craze is definitely a great idea, but the execution of the product on the part of this particular brand was definitely one gigantic failure. Try something else and do not sacrifice your face or your money and time.

  • Kiehl's Superbly Restorative Argan Body Lotion

I thought this lotion was pretty average for the high price. Seemed like it was mostly hype. It is a nice moisturizer but nothing special.
