  • Jane Be Pure Mineral Gel Eyeliner

Jane Be Pure Mineral Gel Eyeliner

Great, especially for a drugstore gel liner!

A decent product at a decent price. Jane's was the first gel/cream eyeliner I'd ever tried and it got me hooked on gel/cream eyeliner! PROS: The brush head is nice, didn't shed bristles. Smooth formula, not grainy. Nice color (Navy) and pigmentation. Decent length of wear. Didn't cause eye irritation. CONS: The brush handle is a little small! Product began drying out sooner than I'd like (slowly began to dry out/get thicker). Product could stand to be a little creamier. Does require you to clean your brush after nearly every application. Although I did toss it in the trash before it completely dried out, I would be willing to try this product again! I've just purchased Stila's smudgepot trio and like them a lot too, but not sure if I like them enough to pay a lot of money for them, since Jane's are so cheap!

    Smashbox Lip Enhancing Gloss

    Crystal isn't worth the money

This gloss came as part of the Try Me! Smashbox set in Crystal (clear). The gloss has a fruity, tart vanilla smell. It has almost no taste. The texture is nice and smooth but just a little tacky. It doesn't last very long on your lips, but does moisturize a little (not that I expected it to). Personally, I'm not willing to pay a lot for a clear gloss in general, especially a clear gloss that isn't anything spectacular. Overall, a mediocre gloss that isn't worth the price. However, I might be willing to try some of the other shades.

  • Noxzema Original Deep Cleansing Cream
    4.0

    Noxzema Original Deep Cleansing Cream

    Not the best cleanser...

I have the Noxzema Deep Cleansing Cream for Normal/Dry Skin Plus Moisturizers. The tub reads "Noxzema Plus...that Noxzema deep clean with added moisturizers. For clean, healthy-looking skin, use Noxzema every time you wash. Noxzema Plus gives you that trusted Noxzema deep clean with added moisturizers to condition skin. You can feel Noxzema working as it removes dirt, oil and makeup without overdrying. The water-based formula with camphor, menthol and eucalyptus tingles and refreshes skin, leaving it feeling clean, soft and smooth." PROS: Tingly feel. CONS: Tingly feel. Menthol smell. As product gets lower, it will be more difficult to get out of the tub container. Leaves an oily residue that sits on top of the skin, doesn't feel moisturizing (while the first ingredient is water, many of the ingredients are oils). My face does not feel clean after washing (although it hasn't given me any breakouts, but that's probably b/c of the Accutane I'm on!). I got this on clearance, so I might just end up throwing it away. I'll try and use it though, maybe only at night (and Cetaphil in the morning). It says for Normal/Dry skin and my skin is super dry right now, but it doesn't really moisturize... Would nor recommend for Normal skin.

  • Stila Multi-Effect Mascara
    4.0

    Stila Multi-Effect Mascara

    Get a different mascara!

This product was part of a gift set that was on sale at Sephora. PROS: The color pigmentation was decent (black), the texture was okay. I like the sleek silver packaging. No clumping, flaking or smudging problems. CONS: But, Stila's Multi-Effect Mascara is worse than most d/s mascara. Caused my eyes to become slightly red and irritated (and I've hardly ever had any eye products do that!). I hate the curved brush applicator because there was always too much product stuck to the end of it. Also, I hate curved mascara brushes generally, and prefer a straight brush. I didn't see 'multiple effects'--just regular mascara. Weighs down my lashes a bit, which I've never had problems with before. Difficult to remove, even with makeup remover labeled for waterproof mascara removal. May be contributing to me losing lashes! It was just a not-very-good mascara. Overall, this is not a product I will be buying. I might not even use it all, b/c it's hard to remove and seems to be damaging my lashes a little.

  • Smashbox Cream Eye Liner

    Smashbox Cream Eye Liner

Not the best cream liner I've found...

I bought this as part of the Brow Tech & Cream Eye Liner Palette in the Try Me! set. The following cream liners were included: Image (sparkly green black), Caviar (black), Thunder (grey), Picasso (midnight blue), Putty (brownish grey), Midnight Brown (dark brown). I like the high pigmentation of this liner, as well as the creamy quality. While I understand the concept of cream liners being soft smudgable for smokey eyes, IMO they they should set eventually so that they look the same later in the day as they did when you were finished applying your makeup. I actually don't have smudging problems with this product (no raccoon eyes or anything like that)-- it just doesn't last (it just seems to disappear...) However, I think it's a little overpriced given the quality--I cannot get the liner to last on my lower lashline for more than a few hours even using eye primer and setting it with some powder. Overall: This isn't my HG, feel that there are better d/s cream liners (Jane's is pretty decent!) and also much better h/e liners (I like Stila's smudgepot much better).

  • The Body Shop Vitamin E Moisture Cream

The Body Shop Vitamin E Moisture Cream

So so product... not worth the price.

I received this product free as part of a GWP. PROS: Not greasy. I used it on my face without problems (Accutane-dry skin, formerly very oily + not sensitive). CONS: Smells like cheap hotel lotion, IMO. Not moisturizing enough for my VERY dry skin. Overall, a product that I personally could live without. It's a so-so light moisturizer that might be alright for people with normal skin who like the scent and don't mind the price, but for me, I'll pass.

  • Avon Nurtura Replenishing Cream

Product claims: "This rich cream is formulated to replenish undernourished skin while you sleep so you'll wake to skin that feels softer, smoother, silkier." The directions say to use it morning and evening after cleansing. I bought this on sale for about $3.50 and definitely think it's worth the price. I just started using Accutane about 3 weeks ago, and have no idea how to deal with extremely dry skin, since my skin has always been oily and hasn't ever been sensitive to products. The Avon saleslady said it's a big seller. PROS: I liked the scent initially... it moisturizes well. It's a pretty good sized tub for the price (even at regular price ~$8). You don't need a lot of product to moisturize well. Nurtura seems to keep my face moisturized for hours! The texture is creamy and rich, like body butter, but not greasy like generic sunscreen. CONS: Once I read the reviews about how Nurtura smells like mothballs/toiletcleaner, I can't stop comparing them (there is a similarity)!! It does leave slight shine/residue on my face, which I don't care for (not grossly greasy, but I prefer no shine). I like the packaging but would prefer a tube or bottle (more sanitary). While not really a con, I would note that I would NEVER use this product before I was on Accutane--it's too moisturizing for oily or combination skin. Overall, a pretty good product. If I can forget the comparison to chemical products like mothballs, I'll probably repurchase! :)

  • Carmex Original Tube

    Carmex Original Tube

    Carmex cherry

My lips are severely chapped from being on Accutane. My brother always raves about his Carmex so I thought I'd try the Carmex in the cherry tube for easy application... Here's the deal: --PROS: At first, feels moisturizing. Cherry candy smell is so-so. I like the tube applicator. Nice shine initially. The best part is the low price! --CONS: Does not moisturize for as long as it should. Taste is gross. Texture is a little slippery. I feel that rose balm works better and is more pleasant overall (it's basically a tin of $5 rose scented vaseline and it works great!). In my opinion, Carmex Cherry tube is a mediocre product at a very low price. If you have REALLY REALLY dry lips, look for something else.

  • Clinique Acne Solutions Cleansing Foam
    6.0

    Clinique Acne Solutions Cleansing Foam

    Good but a little spendy.

I like this product, it's just a little expensive for me. I don't care to pay much for a cleanser since it's only on your face for a minute or two and then you wash it off. I prefer some drugstore brands like Neutrogena's oil free cleanser (the standard yellow orange one), which work just as well but cost a lot less. This product did work pretty well, and I like the packaging. I have very oily skin and severe acne and this product helped some, but mostly kept my skin at a tolerable level of acne and did not get rid of my acne. Also, I used this cleanser as part of the three part Clinique acne line (cleansing foam, toner and 2 .5% benzoyl peroxide). I really liked all of them together, however, they were a little spendy for me and I ended up looking for drugstore stuff to replace it.

  • Clinique Acne Solutions Clearing Moisturizer Oil Free
    6.0

Clinique Acne Solutions Clearing Moisturizer Oil Free

Okay but didn't work well enough for me.

My skin: Severe cystic acne-prone skin. Very oily. Not sensitive to products. Requires a strict cleansing regimen of cleanser (sometimes 2x), alcohol based toner, and antibiotics (doxycycline) as well as topical treatments (I used several in rotation, including Clinique's Acne Solutions Clearing Moisturizer). PROS: Has 2. 5% benzoyl peroxide. As ONE part of my acne skincare arsenal, did a decent job of keeping acne to a tolerable level. CONS: The name is misleading--more of a clearing treatment than clearing moisturizer, which was okay for me since my skin was super oily. Did not cause my skin to become more sensitive or to dry out excessively. But for me personally, did not work as well on my skin as my 10% drugstore benzoyl peroxide. Did not eliminate acne completely (although I have yet to find anything that does). Overall, a decent product but didn't work perfectly for me.
