  • Physicians Formula Summer Eclipse Bronzing & Shimmery Face Powder

At least for me, a medium-skinned African American woman, this does not work as a bronzer at all. It's not dark enough to do the trick, thought this is supposedly the darkest of these bronzers. However, it does add a nice golden glow that can be used as a highlight on cheekbones, should you so desire. And the design is very cute.

  • Smashbox Lip Enhancing Gloss

I didn't hate these glosses, but I don't love them, either. They're just ... blah, I guess. Some of the colors are nice, but the texture is grainy, they aren't long-lasting and there's nothing "enhancing" about them.

    DuWop Elixrstix

    Thumbs down!

I saw these on QVC's Saturday Night Beauty (I TiVo it, I'm so obsessed), thought they looked great and wound up purchasing Clarity and Serenity. Yeah, well, they rate a huge "thumbs down!" As a previous reviewer said, there's no color payoff, no fragrance, the texture is just okay ... it's not worth the money, in my book. I swapped them both.

  • Bourjois Our Signature Blush

    Bourjois Our Signature Blush

    Thumbs down. Will not repurchase.

Okay - the packaging is totally cute. A small, round plastic package that identically matches the shade of the blush. Very retro and frou-frou. The blush itself is baked, which I really love, as I am a huge fan of Laura Geller's Blush 'N Brighten and MAC Mineralize Skinfinishes, which are made through the same process. The shade is exactly what I was looking for - a true, candy pink with minimal shimmer - and I like the included mirror. But that's where my happiness ends. Included in the packaging was a tiny little angle-y brush, which I suppose is suggested for using to contour one's cheeks. Um, no. It's doll-sized and would never be usable, unless you wanted to deposit a tiny stripe of pink on your face, which ... why would you want to do that? Also, it smells. Yes, it reeks. It smells exactly like old lady face powder. Not good. Bourjois' site raves that their blush was the first powder blush ever created - in 1863! And I'm guessing that's exactly what this stuff smelled like back then - blech!

    CARGO BeachBlush

    Great bronzer/blush combination

I love this multi-use product. It's a great bronzer/blush combination. It gives great warmth and color, in the huge CARGO tin.

    CARGO SmokyEye Eyeliner Duo

    Wanted to love this ...

The duos have great colors - I particularly love the Barcelona (that teal is a great shade). Sadly, no matter what I do, these shadows crease. I have oily skin, so I tried putting a primer on my lids first - to no avail. I was disappointed.

    CARGO Blush

    Beautiful blush!

I love CARGO's blushes! Not only are they packaged in a huge tin that makes sure you get your money's worth, but they also are highly pigmented - as a woman of color, I appreciate that they come in colors that show up beautifully on my skin. They come in a wide array of colors and finishes - from shimmery to matte. Great buy!

    CARGO Lip Gloss Duo

    Good gloss

Quite a large tin of shades that apply sheerly, without any stickiness. Don't love that they have to be applied with either fingers or lip brush, but they are still well worth a look.

  • CARGO Bronzer

    CARGO Bronzer

    My favorite bronzer!

I love that the CARGO line of bronzers come in shades suitable for light, medium and darker skintones. I have both medium and dark - medium for the winter and fall when I'm paler and dark for spring and summer, after my skin has gotten some sun. I love the soft sparkle and the enormous size of the product. The only thing that would make the line better is if CARGO offered a matte bronzer in the Dark shade.

BareMinerals Original Foundation Broad Spectrum SPF 15

It took me a while, but now I love it!

When I first tried BareMinerals foundation, I hated it. I thought it made all women of color look ashy. On my first try, the saleslady assured me that I should go with "Dark", as if that was the only color for an African American woman. I discovered that "Dark" was too dark for me - it didn't look natural at all! After some experimentation, I landed upon the correct shade - Warm Tan. It is spectacular! Exactly the right shade.
