The Jack Black Intense Therapy Lip Balm SPF 25 includes lemon, chamomile and green tea, along with skin conditioners and antioxidants. One small sticking point with me is that it can take a bit to get it out of the tube. It's in a squeeze tube and I've found that I have to squeeze harder than I would have thought, but that's fine, once I got the hang of it. The great thing is that it doesn't feel waxy on the lips, but leaves your lips immediately moisturized and smooth, with no flakes. And, with SPF 25, this balm is great for use as sun protection for your lips - yes, your lips need sun protection, too!

I have been intrigued with this product because I love the idea that I could have a make-up primer that would add a bit of a healthy glow to my skin. Unfortunately, this is not the product to do that. I didn't find that That Gal worked as a primer at all - it did nothing to make my skin look or feel smoother or to make my make-up last any longer. I can't say it's a complete waste of time, though. I did find that the slight brightening effect lightens under eye circles just a bit when blended on top of concealer. So, there's that. But I definitely will not repurchase.

The Maybelline website says that their new mascara, The Colossal Volum' Express, "creates 9x the volume - instantly!" Yeah, I'm not sure how they test that to be sure of its accuracy and I can't tell you that you'll have 9x the lash volume if you use this mascara, but I can tell you that you won't be disappointed. This is the only mascara I took with me on my weeklong trip to Orlando and I am happy with the choice I made. Even in 95+ degree heat with very high humidity, this stuff didn't run. One coat was more than enough to define my eyes for the daytime and adding a coat or two gave the glam look wanted for evening. And having it available at your nearest drugstore (at drugstore prices!) makes me love it even more. You don't have to do Lancome or Dior for a great mascara - Maybelline is where it's at!

I, like many, am a huge fan of NARS' blushes. The colors are insane and most are infused with a wonderful shimmer that gives your skin a radiant glow. I like glowy cheeks, so I am down with that. However, not like many, I'm not a huge fan of the "O" shade. I find that, while it is a lovely shade, it takes quite a bit for it to show up on me. I prefer a deeper, more saturated peach. When I saw the NARS Sin/Casino blush and bronzer duo, I thought that I'd again be disappointed - Sin looked a bit pale in the pan, but I gave it a try. I was wrong. While it does appear to be pale, almost a lilac, in the pan, when applied to the skin, it deepens to a yummy berryish flush, which I quite enjoy. And, as a bronzer, Casino is deep enough to qualify, not turning up as a highlight on my already brown skin, the way many bronzers do. I wholeheartedly recommend this blush/bronzer duo for us brown gals in the middle of the brownness spectrum. If you are on the lighter end of the spectrum, you may be quite happy with the Orgasm/Laguna combo, so give that one a try!

I've tried several of the mineral make-up companies out there, trying to find a brand that works for women of color, like myself. Well, Jane Iredale is it! The PurePressed Base in Butternut is the perfect shade for me, and, unlike some other mineral companies, Jane Iredale makes the foundation in a pressed powder format, which is much tidier and easier to transport for touch-ups.

L'Oreal Paris HiP Studio Secrets Professional High Drama Volumizing Mascara
Not mindblowing, but good
My friend, Denise, told me that the L'Oreal HIP Mascara is one to avoid, but during my Bobbi Brown makeover the fabulous artist, Rugi (Hey, Rugi!) told me that this is her favorite drugstore mascara. Such conflicting reviews! I didn't know what to do! Oh, of course I did! The only thing to do was to try it for myself. Off I traipsed to Walgreen's (my favorite place to buy drugstore cosmetics) and snatched up a tube. After wearing it for a couple of days, I have to say - this isn't one of my favorite mascaras, but I'm leaning more toward Rugi's assessment. I found the mascara to work well - it separates, lengthens, and defines. My lashes weren't as thick as I would have liked, but if you have naturally thick lashes, but are looking to have more length, this is a perfectly serviceable mascara.

I am of two minds on the MAC Mineralize Loose Powder Foundation. On the one hand, I think it works great as a loose finishing powder - it goes on smoothly and adds a wonderful polished look to the face. But, as foundation? Nah. The formulation is way too sheer to count as any kind of substantial foundation; the powder puff thingie included with it doesn't work well for blending or applying; it's ridiculously messy in the container because the top doesn't lock on well. The MAC site says that it can be built up to medium coverage, but I disagree. If you're looking for a mineral foundation from MAC, I recommend that you choose the much better Mineralize Skinfinish Natural. If you're looking for a loose finishing powder, MAC also has a better option in their Select Sheer Loose Powder, which comes in larger, less messy packaging.

I have fallen in love with stains. They give you that perfectly sexy, yet carefree look of popsicle-colored lips and just pinched cheeks. It's so effortlessly pretty. And, in the case of the Stila Cherry Crush (and upcoming Pomegranate Crush) the look is chic and of the moment and quick as a snap, to boot. The Cherry and Pomegranate Crush products come in a click pen, similar to Stila's Lip Glazes (which I also enjoy). They are lightly scented with their namesake fruits and leave a long-lasting stain on lips and cheeks. Cherry Crush is a bright, cool red, while Pomegranate Crush is more of a deep pink, almost fuschia. I love to swipe them across both lips and cheeks - topping the cheek stain with a shimmery bronzer and the lip stain with a clear or sheer lip gloss.

Available in black only, this mascara is great for every day wear. It is paraben and fragrance free and contains organic ingredients like jojoba oil and beeswax, which supposedly condition and srengthen your lashes. I do like how smoothly the mascara applies and it did leave me with lush lashes all day - they were lengthened and curled, not dramatically, but they were naturally pretty. It was a fresh look that I liked. I have to say, though, for $22, I'm not sure this mascara was worth the pricetag. For a better bargain, you can get the same fresh, naturally pretty lashes from Maybelline's Full 'n Soft Mascara. Get the look you want, and save your money!

Three Custom Color Specialists Warm Bronzer is a great multi-use product. As a woman of medium brown skintone, I've found that it works both as a matte bronzer, in which case, it offers just a hint of bronziness to my skin so that it doesn't lose that sunkissed look and it also works as an all-over face powder. Since it's matte and fairly sheer, I can dust it over my skin with a fluffy powder brush and it can act as a great setting powder, helping to minimize shine. I love that it comes in cute but small packaging, so it's perfect to throw into my purse for touch-ups during the day!
