  • La Roche-Posay Mela D Pigment Control

I used this religiously every night for eight weeks and saw no difference. I even took pictures to compare, but nada. Zippo. Save your dollars, because while this isn't top-shelf expensive, it ain't cheap.

  • La Roche-Posay Effaclar Purifying Foaming Gel

Full disclosure here: I'm a Paula's Choice convert, and use her RESIST line almost exclusively. HOWEVER, I keep this lovely cleanser under my vanity for the hotter, more humid summer days here in the Southeast. I used this before I discovered Paula, and believe it had a lot to do with helping my skin's barrier renew itself. This is a gentle cleanser that works on sensitive skin that might also have some congestion issues. That it smells lovely doesn't hurt its case, either.

  • Neutrogena Healthy Skin Liquid Makeup
    8.0

    Neutrogena Healthy Skin Liquid Makeup

    Good formula, nice coverage

This is my go-to drugstore foundation. The "Nude" color option works well for my lighter medium skin tone, and it blends well. It's buildable coverage that allows for a more sheer look when applied with a damp wedge sponge. I'm also a fan of the formula since it prioritizes healthy skin and includes an SPF.

  • Garnier Fructis Style Control Flexible Control Anti-Humidity Aerosol Hairspray

I'm not a huge fan of hair spray in general, and with thick hair that tends to stay put in the regular messy bun I've adopted as my hair uniform, spray isn't often necessary. When I straighten or hot roll, however, I want a little help keeping things in order but I don't want it to be plastered. I like this spray's flexible hold. I style my hair, then pull it up with my hands, then spray as I let it go. Nice, flexible hold that let's hair move naturally.

  • Garnier Fructis Style Sleek & Shine Blow Dry Perfector Straightening Balm

I have thick, shoulder-length wavy hair that requires some work to straighten, which is why I don't do it very often. When I do, I reach for this. It's not super thick and doesn't weigh hair down, but it does cut blow-drying time. I also think it helps protect my hair.

  • Neutrogena Shine Control Powder
    10.0

    Neutrogena Shine Control Powder

    My go-to setting powder

Love this as a finishing powder. Truly transparent and truly oil absorbing. When you lightly feather it over your T-zone, it helps set your makeup and reduce shine without creating a zombie.

  • Jane Iredale PurePressed Pressed Minerals SPF 20

The mineral makeup craze has yet to woo me, but that's likely because the first experience I had was with that brand that cornered the market, and it was not good. In addition to looking like mud smeared on my face (no matter the color I tried), it was disastrous for my skin. Breakouts everywhere. I say all this because I was a hard sell. I first tried Jane Iredale after a laser treatment and my aesthetician told me to use "a mineral makeup" while I healed. Panic set in. I hated mineral makeup. She suggested Jane Iredale, so I begrudingly bought it and forked over the $$ for a product I knew I'd toss after I healed up. Lo and behold I did NOT throw it away, and in fact, used every last bit then bought some more. Unlike that other brand, this does not sit on top of the skin and it doesn't cause acne. The spectrum of colors is also impressive.

  • Redken All Soft Heavy Cream

I'm an All Soft SHAMPOO devotee, but this didn't live up to the brand for me. I have chemically treated mid-length, thick, curly hair that needs regular moisture and a weekly treatment. This didn't impart softness or bounce to my strands. I ended up using it as a daily conditioner just to finish up the container.

  • Redken All Soft Shampoo

This has been my go-to shampoo for more than five years now. I have mid-length thick, curly-ish hair that is also regularly colored and highlighted. Overall, my hair is strong, but it tends toward dry and can be frizzy if I'm not careful. All Soft is reasonably priced, smells great and works.

  • Paula's Choice RESIST Barrier Repair Moisturizer

I'm on my fourth bottle of this, and love it as much now as I did when I first tried it. I was drawn to it for the retinol and that it touted "barrier repair," since sensitive skin often suffers from a weak/compromised barrier. Together with Paula's RESIST cleanser and toner, I see skin that's healthy and dewey with no breakouts.
