    Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion+

Possible culprit for my recent skin trouble

This is a very lightweight but incredibly moisturizing lotion, and feels really silky and like a milk when you put it on. I was a fanatic when I first bought it, but think maybe this is the culprit for my recent skin trouble; it's nothing serious, but I've been getting more little bumps around my nose and jawline, and I definitely can't wear it when I'm working out and sweating - my face gets really greasy and breaks out. My skin is dry combination, acne-prone but also flaky in some areas. This is recommended for dry skin that's NOT acne-prone. Try the gel version for very oily skin, but not for dry-combination or dry; it's very watery.

    Philosophy Hope in a Jar

Great, but not for the acne-prone

I loved this moisturizer until I realized that it was probably what was breaking me out more often (a major ingredient is lavender oil). A lot of people don't like the metallic scent, but I love it because it makes me feel like I'm getting a professional treatment at a dermatologist's. It's very light but not liquid, and sinks in well. The lactic acid is also a gentle exfoliator, and right after I use it, my face looks glowing, like I was just out in the cold. I think it would be good for normal to dry skin, but it's not recommended for oily or acne-prone.

  • SkinCeuticals Ultimate UV Defense SPF 30

I usually like SkinCeuticals products, but this was a disappointement. I bought this because of the physical blocks that don't break down in sunlight and its moisturizing properties, but the cream was so thick that it was extremely difficult to spread and blend. The greasy appearance also never really went away even after it dried, and it had a very sticky finish. I tried toning it down with powder, but it only got caught on the stickiness and looked cakey. My friend commented that I looked very dry along my jawline, but it was because the cream didn't blend well and had dried that way.

  • BareMinerals Mineral Veil Finishing Powder Broad Spectrum SPF 25

My skin is constantly changing depending on my changing routine, so I've tried countless powders, but I always keep coming back to this one. I've used this when I had extremely oily skin (I'd reapply once more midday), when I had combination skin, and when I had dry skin (using Retin-A). I'd apply more when I'm oilier, and only a light dusting when I'm dry just to set my makeup. It's the most lightweight powder I've ever used, is clear and almost invisible, and feels silky on my skin. The big jar also lasts me about a year.

  • Clarins Sun Wrinkle Control Eye Contour Care SPF 30

This is a lightweight, slightly greasy-feeling lotion for the eye area. Because the active ingredient is titanium dioxide, a physical uv block, it gives me a very white cast around my eyes. I do like that the physical block won't break down over time like chemical ones.

    Murad Acne Spot Treatment

    Great daily product for day

I find the ingredient sulfur to be the most effective and non-drying out of all the other anti-acne ingredients, such as salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide, etc. This product combines sulfur with other ingredients that prevent extreme dryness that comes with using benzoyl peroxide, and the sting of salicylic acid. It's great for sensitive skin, and dries invisible for use during the day. I'm not sure if it would be the best for super-oily skin, but it's certainly great for combination and dry skin. It can seem expensive for a small tube, but seriously - it lasts forever! Over a year for me, at least.

    Dior Diorshow Waterproof

Not the best for Asian eyes

I bought this because all the hype at Sephora, but was disappointed. The brush is designed to volumize, but it's so big and fat that it doesn't reach all my lashes - just the middle ones. It's also not very waterproof - it just wears like any regular non-waterproof mascara and smudges within the first hour of wearing.

  • Clinique Acne Solutions Clarifying Lotion

I love this toner - usually I'm very against toners because the alcohol really strips my sensitive-but-acne-prone skin, but this one is not so harsh. I don't recommend using this in conjunction with the rest of the 3-step acne solutions kit; it's way too drying, and you might break out even more from the dry skin buildup. When I swipe this over my face with a cotton ball after cleansing, I can actually see my dry skin patches and beige foundation residue on the cotton ball, which makes me feel very clean. This also minimized the little bumps and blackheads on my nose, which even my Clarisonic brush couldn't do. However, the acne medication in this is very mild, so it will not have much effect over cystic acne; this is good for those little bumps, whiteheads, blackheads, and clogged pores.

  • Peter Thomas Roth Ultra Lite Oil-Free Sunblock

Peter Thomas Roth Ultra Lite Oil-Free Sunblock

    My daily sunscreen of choice

This is probably the lightest sunscreen I've ever tried with a moderately high SPF. If you have normal to oily skin, you may not even need moisturizer underneath because it's lightly moisturizing. The white cast is very minimal, and the lightness makes it ideal for reapplying throughout the day if you're out in the sun for a long time. Compared to other high-end sunblocks, it's also the least expensive, and you get a whopping 4 oz. I've tried the uber-dry version, but it reminds me of Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry Touch, which flakes.

  • L'Oreal Paris Ideal Skin Genesis Daily Moisturizer SPF 15 Lotion

I'm super-excited to have discovered such an amazing moisturizer. This is IT - no more searching for a better one!! I have combination-oily skin Asian skin, but have been using Retin-A, which has me extremely dry and flaky, but I still can't use moisturizing lotions if it's not oil-free because I break out. This is a soft gel, looks a bit pearly when squeezed out, and is oil-free but still moisturizing. It absorbs very easily, and makes my skin glow! It was $20 at the drugstore, which may sound pricey for a drugstore product, but compared to the numerous moisturizers from Sephora and Nordstrom that failed, this is an incredible bargain.
