  • Milani’s Runway Eyes Fashion Shadows

These shadows are very pretty. I've only ever used it with shadow primer (because I always use primer with shadow) so I will say that with primer, the colors can show up well and the product has decent lasting power. I don't really experience creasing and only slight fading after a full morning till night day of wear. They aren't the easiest to blend (not horrible though). They aren't as pigmented as I would like them to be so I tend to use a lot of product-- I picked out two colorful, bright palettes expecting to create colorful, bright looks but without a generous amount of product I get more a muted wash of color. The look is still pretty but not what I was looking for. What really bothers me though is the packaging. It's pretty and sleek to lay out the shadows in long, thin, domed stripes, but it's very impractical when you are trying to pick up shadow on a brush and that is where this product looses most of it's stars for me. I don't mind that the colors weren't what I expected, but a shadow palette that's not easy to use? Meh. In any case, I'll talk a little bit about the two palettes I do have: Glamourous Gems and Haute Couture. Glamorous Gems is a gold and green palette and is the better of the two in terms of being an actual palette. The colors complement each other and you can actually create some looks with this palette on it's own. Haute Couture is a brights palette-- two purples, a pink, a green, a yellow gold, and a silvery tinged white. The colors are pretty but they don't play well with each other. The colors tend to muddy each other up when blended so you can't really create much of a look with the palette alone; I definitely need to bring in shadows from other palettes if I want more than a nice colorful liner look. If you want some nice washes of color (or don't mind using a lot of product) and aren't looking for an all-in-one palette, these are an inexpensive way to play with trendy colors.

  • Milani Glitter Glamour - Eyeliner & Mascara

I had this when I was just getting into make up and that's all I would recommend it for. The liner is very subtle and isn't long lasting and the mascara serves only to give a pop of color. In spite of those facts, I remember this being very inexpensive so I would recommend it for anyone just starting out with make up or anyone that is just starting to experiment with color.

  • Milani Baked Blush
    10.0

    Milani Baked Blush

    Milani Baked Blush

These blushes are a must-try. The formulas are easy to blend and they are super pigmented so use a proper blush brush with this one. Seriously. Using the brush that comes with the product will pick up and apply too much product. I have rather oily skin so I was a bit iffy on whether I wanted to try these because they look so shimmery in the packaging and that much shimmer on my face tends to make me look uber oily. Still, it looked so pretty I figured that if it didn't work on my face, I'd just use it as an eyeshadow or something. Yes, really. It's so pretty I was determined to find some way of using it. Despite my reservations, when applied they don't look all that shimmery. In fact, once you actually blend in the product, there's not really any shimmer left on the face. Instead, you are left with a very light, subtle sheen that matches the marbling you see in the blush. If you do happen to like shimmer, you would need to buff less. And if you want a matte look, they recently released a two matte colors (which I plan to hunt down). I don't need to use a lot of product to get nice coloring on my face-- something I tend to need to do with my medium toned skin when using most drugstore brands-- and it lasts all day. I own this blush in shades Corallina, Rose D'Oro, and Red Vino. A quick break down of the colors I own: Corallina: A bright coral color with silvery shimmer that would be perfect for summer. It leaves a nice peachy sheen. This one has the most shimmer of the three I own and it's also the brightest shade. Rose D'Oro: My personal favorite. It's a muted coral with golden shimmer and gives luminous golden sheen to the skin. This one would work for any season, day or night and would flatter any skin tone. Red Vino: A deep, rosy berry with golden shimmer and a deep rose gold sheen. This one is VERY pigmented and works best on medium to dark tones. It may be too dark or intense for fair skin if you don't use a very light hand.

  • L'Oreal Paris Voluminous Butterfly Mascara

I tend to really love L'Oreal mascaras, but have lately been using Diorshow. I saw this on sale and decided to grab it to help stretch out the use of my more expensive mascara and honestly, it gives me pretty much the same look as the Diorshow-- long, fluttery, and full. The only difference is that I use an extra coat-- three with two to three with the L'Oreal versus 1-2 with the Dior. I was quite surprised how similar the outcome was as the formulas don't feel very too similar and the brushes are very different. This formula isn't very wet so it holds a curl well. It sets quickly and is buildable so you can get pretty fantastic volume. The bristles work well to keep clumps away. I didn't experience any flaking or smudging. I even had an incident where I got sand or something in my eye and teared up badly and still no smears. And I didn't even buy a waterproof formula. I also love the way it feels on-- it's lightweight and doesn't feel like I'm wearing any product on and removes easily. The only con I can think of: The brush does have an assymetrical shape so there is a right and wrong end to it and if you aren't ambedextric or are not comfortable with having to turn your wrist when applying mascara, it may be problematic for you. If it is problematic for you and you want to try it, I would suggest applying the product as you normally would and then moving the wand and using the longer bristles on the end to give a winged look.

  • Physicians Formula Cashmere Wear Ultra-Smoothing Blush

This is a nice blush for those looking for a sheer coverage. It is very light but buildable and it is not the least bit heavy or cakey. The only thing that I dislike is that the top develops a strange film on it. I noticed after a week of use that my brush (use your own blush brush by the way, the one it comes with is rather worthless) could not pick up any product because to top... I don't know how to explain it... solidified or something. I had to scrap off the top layer to get it working right so quite a bit of product was wasted.

  • Physicians Formula Cashmere Wear Ultra-Smoothing Bronzer

I use bronzers to contour and this is too shimmery for that (you need a matte product to get proper contouring). While I like that it's sheer and buildable, the formula is kind of strange. To really get any color out, I had to basically crush and powderize the product. It might work better as a loose powder. In any case, I can't wear this product. I've tried it alone and with different face makeups and the result is always the same: Orange. Very, very orange. It was surprising to me because when I applied the product initially, it looks like I only have some light golden shimmer-- the actual pigment doesn't make a big difference if you're not pale-- but at the end of the day, the shimmer is gone and has been replaced with a not so flattering shade of Cheeto. Perhaps it's because I've got a tan, olive tone and it would look nicer on warmer, paler shades, On the plus, it's buildable, it feels nice on, and the packaging is nice.

  • Revlon Photo Ready Bronzer

This bronzer is perfect. The quad gives you control over how bronze the overall effect is and works for lighter and darker skin tones. It is also truly matte so it's perfect for contouring or if you have fine lines and are worried about shimmer settling into said lines. My favorite thing is that it doesn't oxidize into an ugly orange powder which, in my experience, is hard to find with less expensive brands.

  • Clinique Almost Lipstick

    Clinique Almost Lipstick

    Almost Lipstick

I have this in Black Honey. It's a pretty color that would work on any skin tone and works like a balm. It is very moisturizing so you won't get long wear out of this. I would rate this higher but for the price, you could find a comparable product for less. Revlon Lip Butters and Burt's Bees Wax Tinted Lip Balm are two that come to mind. Both deliver the same moisture and touch of color as Alist Lipstick. But if you have the cash to spurge, this is a nice pick.

  • L'Oreal Paris Voluminous Original Washable Bold Eye Mascara

This is probably my favorite mascara to date. I have long, curly lashes but am lacking the the volume department so I'm always looking for a product to add volume without having to pile a ton of product on. This fits the bill! The brush is a good size though probably a bit large to coat my thin lower lashes. The formula is very light weight even when it's dry, it feels flexible & not at all hard & it holds curl well. It lasts the entire day without flaking or smudging but washes out very easily at the end of the day. I only need 1-2 coats to get fake looking lashes. I pair it with Hard Candy's 1,000 Lashes primer for a super dramatic, fake look. With the primer, my already long lashes touch my eyebrows & look super thick & that's with only one coat of primer and one coat of Voluminous mascara. I can't say enough good things about this mascara. It's perfection in a tube.

  • Neutrogena Shine Control Primer
    1.0

    Neutrogena Shine Control Primer

    Shine Control Primer

Not much going for this primer. It has a very strong scent that doesn't fade and the primer itself is white. When I put it on, it gives my tan skin an ashy, white cast even with only a thin layer. If you wear a sheer wash of foundation or only spot cover, this cast will affect your overall look so you'd need a full foundation look if you arent fair enough (light skin ladies will have no issues). The shine control isn't awful, but you can find primers that work better at the same price point ( I prefer L'Oreal ). So why such a low rating? It is unusable. I have no allergies and yet, this primer really irratated me like nobody's business. This is the only Neutrogena primer that has had this effect on me. My eyes puffed up, watered, and turned red. I had people asking if I had been crying. I even had to get some allergy meds, which didn't help. I've tried wearing this primer on several occasions, away from my eyes and nothing helps.
