  • Maybelline New York Nail Colours Color Show Nail Polish

I have the Green With Envy, Pedal to the Metal, and Bold Gold polishes, and I have to say they might be some of my favorite polishes. Though the quantity of polish they give you in a bottle is less than other polishes, two coats without top or base coats lasted 9 days without any chipping, making it a good value, as well as saving me time and money. Also, the polish dries really fast, and the colors are amazing. The only complaints is that the brush with the cap is a bit awkward, lacking the control of other polish brushes, and the first coat of the nail polish is matte and streaky. The second coat of color usually fixes this, but it takes a while to get the hang of it and achieve the perfect manicure.

    Good, But There's Better

The Revlon polish I used, which was a dark green named Posh, was opaque in one coat, which was very convenient. Also, the formula went on smooth and streak-free, and left a glossy shine without top coat. However, this isn't the most impressive polish I've ever used. It's nice that I got it one sale because for the normal retail price, I could have picked up a bottle of Essie, which I feel would have better color selection, and a better formula. Revlon's polish is nice, but it's not the best for it's price range.

  • Maybelline New York Baby Lips Moisturizing Lip Balm

I was a little scared to write this review, because I know there are a lot of different opinions about this lip balm, and some people might get a little heated about this. So if I offend anyone, I apologize in advance. This is just my opinion, so it may be different for everyone. I got this for $3.47 in Pink Punch, which comes in a pink tube with yellow lettering. It has a very tropical summery fruity smell, which I actually quite enjoy even though I'm not usually a fan of synthetic smells. The packaging is pretty cute, but the packaging for Pink Punch looks a bit tacky. I think it's the tackiest-looking packaging out of the bunch, in my opinion. However, the packing is neat, clean, and sturdy considering it has survived being in my bag and pockets at my clumsiest moments! The lip balm itself has a nice, sheer wash of bright pink color, which I can layer up to be more dramatic and bright, or I can just swipe a little on for a naturally girly flush of color. I find that this lasts maybe an hour at the most, so I find myself having to touch up constantly. Also, while I like the color and smell, I don't really feel any moisture. It's smooth and hydrating when it glides on, but that moisture doesn't really last. Overall, the price, smell, and color of Maybelline's Baby Lips lip balms are good and wearable, but the moisture doesn't last for me.

  • Clinique Clarifying Lotion 2
    9.0

    Clinique Clarifying Lotion 2

    Banned My Blackheads

I have struggled with blackheads nonstop for as long as I can imagine. I hated how big and dark they got, but I didn't want to do extractions because I heard they can scar your skin. Honestly by that point, I was just crossing my fingers that as my body settled down more (yay for hormones) they would just disappear on their own. But of course, I'm impatient, so I picked up a bottle of this (13 oz. for $11), and I must say I regret how much time I spent dreaming about perfect skin rather than using this. First off, the packaging is simple, but sturdy and sophisticated, and the product lasts forever. I use mine once in the morning and once at night. It's been nearly two months now, and there's honestly 19/20 of the product still there in the bottle. A lot of people say that they would prefer if this product had a flip cap instead of a screw on cap, but I actually find it quite clean and simple to use. I just put a cotton pad over the opening, flip the bottle upside down quickly, and it gives me the perfect amount of product. Then, Clinique's Clarifying lotion really does miracles for your skin. It shrunk my blackheads and kept my excess oil at bay. Also, it cleanses without drying out my skin, and it leaves a really cool, tingling feeling after using it. It's especially nice in the hot, dry summers. Another plus is that it gives rid of the makeup my makeup remover might have missed. The only thing is the scent is rather strong. But if Clinique ever discontinues this product, riots would break out because this product is truly amazing.

  • CoverGirl LipPerfection Lipcolor
    6.0

    CoverGirl LipPerfection Lipcolor

    Smells Nice, Pretty Average

I picked this up at the grocery store on a whim in the peachy-pink color Decadent because I was looking for a lip color that would work for most of my spring outfits. While this isn't downright terrible, I can't say that it's something that I would go back to once I finish the tube I have now. First, the packaging is really nothing special. It's a plain, rectangular, brown tube with a see-through bottom with the color shade and name on a sticker. I do like the see-through bottom and sticker on the bottom. It makes it easy to identify in my makeup bag. When I open the tube, the inside plastic is no longer that deep brown like on the outside of the tube, but rather it is a muted mauve magenta plastic, which looks a bit cheap. Speaking of appearances, Decadent is a beautiful natural peach pink shade that could basically function as a nude, but with a dash of girlish pink. It looks like a shade that conveys innocence, yet class and fun. The lipstick smells like warm brown sugar, which doesn't not compliment the color. (Not that that's important, I just would have expected a fruity scent.) The lipstick itself goes on very smoothly, and feels very creamy and moisturizing on the lips. The color looks true to what it does in the tube, but the pigmentation was not amazing, so I had to build up about three layers until it was true to the tube. While this lipstick looks great at first, it does feel drier and drier after a while, and the color wears off really quickly (in about an hour). Besides the not so great pigmentation, this short-term wear is what makes this just an average lipstick for me, as much as I like the color. I am so busy I don't have time for constant touch ups. In conclusion, while I am happy with the shade, this lipstick's pigmentation, wear, and packaging aren't that great.

  • L'Oreal Paris Magic by Studio Secrets Skin Beautifier BB Cream
    4.0

L'Oreal Paris Magic by Studio Secrets Skin Beautifier BB Cream

Overpriced for a Product that Doesn't Work

I usually don't like the write negative reviews, but hey, we all run into products that we don't like. I have this in the shade "Light." I'll start by saying that the tube is really small for an $11 product (for only one ounce as well), though the packaging is nice because the BB cream comes out of this pointy tip once I unscrew the cap which keeps things nice and clean and controlled. But that's where the goodness ends. When first pushed out of the tube, this BB cream is white, and it has a gritty texture. But as soon as I smooth it over my skin, the gritty texture goes away because the bumpiness is caused by the bursting of little beads that contain the color. I think this is rather cool, but some people may find the texture very off-putting, like the friend who told me about this. The color of the BB cream itself is very tan for being a "light" shade, which really bothers me, considering that the only other shade is "medium" (limited shade range). I have a skin tone of about NC20 to NC25 depending on the time of year, and after the beads burst and the color shows up, the light shade looks to be about three shades too dark for me. So if you have extra fair skin, be aware of this if you are considering this product. Besides the very tan "light" shade, I also find this BB cream to be very drying, even though it claims to to "hydrate". If you have oily skin, this may not be an issue for you, but for my normal/combination dry skin, I feel like my skin is drying up when I use this, and I've never had that happen with other BB creams. However, it also makes this very lightweight, like there's nothing on my skin, which some people may like. Also, this BB cream has very light coverage, a good and bad thing, depending on what you're looking for. On me, this BB cream lasts a good 6 hours before it starts to fade, and I find that it does oxidize so that it gets a little darker. In conclusion, I wasn't impressed with this BB cream, but it might work for you. My problems were just that it was very tan/dark to be "light", there are only 2 colors when I was buying mine (I hope they add more shades!), and the formula is drying which doesn't live up to its claims of being "hydrating". I don't think I'll be buying this again unless L'Oreal drastically changes it, because for the performance on my personal account, this product is overpriced and rather disappointing.

  • Herbal Essences Body Envy Volumizing Conditioner
    3.0

Herbal Essences Body Envy Volumizing Conditioner

    No Conditioning Properties or Volume

I love Herbal Essences' packaging and the scent of all of their products, and how well the products work, but this Body Envy Volumizing Conditioner did not live up to the usual standard. While the packaging and scent are fun and heavenly, as always, this conditioner does not "condition" at all. I might as well have just put water in my hair. It does not make my hair any more manageable, moisturized, or smooth like conditioner should. It even feels useless in my hands. Also, there is no volume. I usually love my Herbal Essences, but this conditioner is a flop.

  • Herbal Essences Body Envy Volumizing Shampoo

I have thin, straight, slippery sleek hair, but a lot of it. While a lot of people say that I am lucky, and I do love my hair as it is, I have always coveted that volume that coarse-haired or curly-haired girls have always had. I picked this shampoo up (along with the matching conditioner) hoping to get a bit more volume in my hair after I heard from a friend how great it is, but I have been using this for nearly seven months, and still haven't seen any difference. While I find the orange bottle (and Herbal Essences packaging in general) to look so fun and cute, and while I find the scent of this shampoo to be amazing (a floral, subtly citrusy scent), the shampoo itself did not live up to its promises and give my hair "body envy". I did like how well this shampoo lathers up, however. It creates a luscious, abundant foam that covers my entire head with just a little amount. Overall, I was so excited for this product, but it just failed to deliver on its promises of volume, even though it lathers well.

  • Maybelline New York Great Lash Washable Mascara

This was my very first mascara. No wonder I hated mascara for about five years until I was able to finally get my hands on some decent mascara. I cannot believe that this is "America's Favorite Mascara", with a tube being some every sold every 3 seconds or so (this is all what Maybelline claims) because now that I've tried other mascaras, I truly think this is the worst. Now I'm not calling it the worst because it destroys lashes or causes allergic reactions or something, but because it does absolutely nothing. First, the brush is mediocre. It doesn't separate lashes very well, and it does not spread the formula very evenly. Then, this mascara really only makes my black lashes a tad blacker. The black color isn't as rich and true as other mascaras, and can come off as grey in some situations. This mascara cannot hold a curl past ten seconds. In fact, it might even make my lashes droop more, which is definitely one of the worst qualities of this mascara because my lashes are already stick straight. This mascara also clumps relatively easily, especially when I applied more than one coat. Also, this mascara flakes off on me in about three to four hours, and it smudges before that if I sweat or get a little oily throughout the day. Finally, this mascara does not volumize or lengthen in any way. The closest thing it does to volumizing is clumping, and the closest thing it does to lengthening is clumping. And when it doesn't clump, my lashes look about the exact same. Overall, I just think this mascara is the worst mascara I've tried. Even though the price tag is very friendly at around $6 or so, and there is almost something like a cult behind this product, I say spend a few more dollars to find something decant that will visibly volumize and lengthen. I gave this two stars because I do think that the green and pink packaging is iconic and cute.

  • CoverGirl Clump Crusher by LashBlast Mascara

This green-tubed mascara had been all the rage last year, and was recommended to me by so many of my friends that I just had to try it. I was unsure whether it was as great as everyone told me it was and whether I would like it because I'm not generally a fan of Covergirl products, but I was pleasantly surprised. The packaging is really nice. I really like the bright green color even though some people find it gaudy and chunky. But the best part of this product has to be the brush. It's slightly curved so it hugs the lashes and makes me feel like I won't poke my eyes out if I'm try to really reach the roots, and it really separates every lash and spreads the formula well. I think it is the biggest contributor to this product's clump-free performance. The plastic bristles are also the perfect length, and aren't so hard that when I wiggle it near my roots, its painful. The brush is near perfection. The formula itself is the perfect consistency. It's not too watery so that it doesn't do anything, but it's not so thick that putting on mascara is annoying and tedious. The color is really, really black, which I like, and there are honestly no clumps at all. This mascara doesn't build volume as quickly as, say, Benefit's They're Real! mascara, but it doesn't clump, looks even, and the color is very rich. Also, this mascara doesn't smudge nearly as bad as Benefit's They're Real! or most mascaras I've tried, which is a huge plus. The only complaint I have with this mascara is that it can't really hold a curl like other "water resistant" or "waterproof" mascaras, but that's not a reason not to try this mascara unless holding a curl is your first priority. Overall, I really like this mascara for natural or casual looks. I might go for something with more volume and curl hold for more dramatic looks, but I can definitely see myself buying this again because it has no clumps, the brush is amazing, the color is true, and it doesn't smudge.
