    Rimmel London Moisture Renew Lipstick

    Good Drugstore Lipstick

I received the Rimmel London Moisture Renew Lipstick in Red Alert for reviewing purposes a couple of months ago. Red Alert is a VERY red color and that’s not necessarily a bad thing. I think it’s a true, bright red and almost borders on the side of an orange-red. I have gotten a lot of compliments when I wear it and that is mostly why I like using it. I only use it on special occasions because it’s not really an everyday color for me, but that may not be the case for everyone. I highly recommend using a lip liner when using this lipstick. If you have trouble matching a lip liner, try a universal, transparent liner. I think Rimmel actually makes one in the moisture renew line, but I’m not totally sure on that. Anyway, given that this is so pigmented, it likes to get everywhere. Word of warning: Do not touch your lips or even get near them because you are sure to get lipstick on yourself. I have gotten it on my clothes, in my hair, and of course, on my teeth. You could perhaps seal it in with a clear gloss and I also recommend using a lip primer to help it from sliding around. The thing I like most about this lipstick is the formula. I’m not totally certain how it’s done, but this lipstick is true to its name because it is certainly moisturizing. I find this unique and refreshing in a lipstick because a good number that I’ve tried tend to dry the lips out. This lipstick actually seems to add some moisture to my lips and gives them a shiny, soft look rather than a matte look. On a final note, this lipstick actually has a really good smell. I know that seems weird to say, but it does…

    Sulwhasoo Deep Cleansing Oil

    A Delicate, Gentle Cleanser

For years I was using either those makeup removing wipes from various drugstore brands, or I was just using my regular face wash to take off my makeup at the end of the day. I thought this was the best way to do it, but then I read an article on Korean skincare routines. In this article, the author mentioned the use of cleansing oils to take off makeup entirely. This was the first time I had ever heard of cleansing oils. I thought that putting oil on my face sounded weird and would possibly cause a breakout. Being a huge fan of Korean skincare, I became curious about cleansing oils, so I started searching. I found a number of brands from Korea and even in the US. How had I never heard of these before? I made this discovery when my boyfriend was visiting his family in Korea, so I asked him to find some cleansing oil and bring it back for me. I was referring to the less expensive brands, but he likes to buy the best products, so he came back with the Sulwhasoo deep cleansing oil. This being the first cleansing oil I’ve tried, I was not sure what to expect. First of all, it smells very nice. The scent is delicate and not at all overwhelming. The oil is not like the consistency of a cooking oil, but rather something much more plant derived and light. It only requires half a pump, for me anyway, to cover my entire face. I just rub it gently in small circles and then rinse thoroughly with water. I usually wash very gently with a foaming cleanser after I use the cleansing oil. It does very well to remove nearly all of my makeup. Sometimes I will need to use eye makeup remover, but most of the time I do not. This cleansing oil is very high quality and leaves my skin feeling soft and supple and gives it a beautiful brightness.

Tarte Beauty & The Box Amazonian Clay Eyeshadow Quad

Long Lasting, But Pigmentation is Lacking

My mother purchased this Tarte Amazonian clay eye shadow quad for me last Christmas and I was so excited to receive it. I have been a big fan of Tarte for awhile now, after having used the Amazonian clay foundation in both the liquid and powder form, as well as the blush, eye liner, and eye brown marker. Even the Tarte brushes are awesome. I honestly thought you could not go wrong with this brand and was really ready to try some of Tarte’s Amazonian clay eye shadow because I thought the colors were really lovely and would match my skin tone well. I like that they are mostly nudes, so they go well with almost everything that I own. The packaging itself is very attractive. The eye shadow comes in a beautiful packaging, which is signature of Tarte and almost looks whimsical and natural. I guess that’s how they can relate it to the Amazon. Anyway, let’s talk about the pigmentation. Because of my past experiences with Tarte and how much I have loved this brand, I expected the same very high quality performance form their eye shadow line. I do not know if this was just the one I received or if it is all of the Amazonian clay eye shadows, but these are either really lacking in pigment or are too matte and pigmented for my taste. The lighter colors barely show up and the darker colors are far too dark and almost impossible to blend. I was really disappointed with the pigmentation. I do have to say that the eye shadow does not have a lot of fallout. I feel that it really does stay in place for my entire eight-hour work day. I think this time can be extended if an eye primer is used, which I highly recommend.

  • Bare Escentuals Prime Time Foundation Primer

My grandmother purchased the Bare Escentuals Prime Time Original primer for me for Christmas last year. This is actually the first foundation primer that I have ever used, so I was not sure what to expect prior to using it. I was actually somewhat worried that it would cause breakouts, redness, or rashes for me, so I put it on very sparingly at first. It turns out that it actually requires very little per use anyway. When applying this before my foundation, I use only about half a pump for my entire face! Therefore, this primer lasts a very long time for being packaged in such a seemingly small bottle. The pump is nice, but you have to be careful not to pump too much. In regards to the actual application of the Prime Time primer, it goes on like silk. It is just such a sheer and very lightweight formula, which is important to me because I do not want to feel like my face is being weighed down by yet another product. I like that this primer has no scent. I’m note sure if other primers do have scents, but this is great because it has no irritating scent. When I first tried this, I did not know what to expect in terms of how it worked for priming and prepping for foundation. I did not buy primer previously because I suppose I was not really aware of what it was used for. After using Prime Time, I will never not use primer again. I was so impressed from the first application and on. My pores appear to be nonexistent when my foundation is applied, whereas before I would notice the foundation settling into my pores, which made them very obvious. This primer allows the foundation to just smooth over the pores, making them much less visible. Plus, the foundation goes on like butter! I love how smoothly my foundation applies with Prime Time.

  • Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blush

    Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blush

    A Beautiful, Long-Wear Blush

My grandmother purchased the Tarte Amazonian clay blush for me for Christmas last year in the pinkish berry color. She did ask me what color I’d like and I chose one that I felt would fit my skin tone and eye color, but looking back I would have chosen one of the more coral colors. First, I’d like to discuss the packaging. Like all Tarte products that I’ve used, this too has an attractive case and can be easily removed from the compact and put into a pallet. I found this out only because I accidentally dropped it on the hard ground and it came out of the compact and I was able to see that it was attached in the compact with a magnet. I thought that was pretty cool. It comes with a decent sized mirror as well and it blends well using the Tarte airbuki brush. Second, this blush comes in a great variety of colors. I chose the pinkish berry because it seemed subtle and was the right shade for my fair skin tone. Turns out it was a bit bright for me, but still very pretty. I just love it and it lasts all day. The pigmentation is there, but very subtle, so it looks very natural and soft. The blush blends so well with my skin tone and what I like most about that is that it does not look cheap or like I used blush at all. There is a very decent amount of blush in the container. Almost a year later, of not using it everyday and alternating this blush with the Dior Diorblush, it has lasted quite long. I probably won’t even get to use all of it before it expires, which is sort of a bummer. I would certainly say that even for the higher price of this blush that it is well worth spending the money on because it does last so long. I’ve even dropped it and it didn’t shatter into a million pieces.

    Dior Diorblush

    My Favorite Blush

My boyfriend purchased the Dior Diorblush for me for Christmas last year in the vintage rose set. He did ask me what color I’d like and I chose one that I felt would fit my skin tone and eye color. First, I’d like to discuss the packaging. Like all Dior products that I’ve used, this too has a gorgeous case and comes with a velvet sleeve to keep it from being scratched and cracked. It comes with a decent sized mirror and a small brush. Second, this blush comes in a great variety of colors. I chose the vintage rose set because it seemed subtle and was the right shade for my fair skin tone. In this set, there are two shades of pink, one of which is more coral and the other a soft rose. I just love it. I can use both of them together by mixing them on my brush or by separately applying the two colors on my cheeks. The pigmentation is there, but very subtle, so it looks very natural and soft. The blush blends so well with my skin tone and what I like most about that is that it does not look cheap or like I used blush at all. There is a very decent amount of blush in the container. Almost a year later, of not using it everyday and alternating this blush with the Tarte Amazonian clay blush, it has lasted quite long. • Organix Nourishing Coconut Milk Conditioner

I bought the Organix Coconut Milk conditioner after running out of my previous salon brand. I have wanted to try this particular conditioner, mostly because the bottle was so cute and coconut can be a very beneficial ingredient for the skin and hair. I feel like this conditioner has gotten a bad wrap from the reviews I’ve read, but I have yet to have any issues with it. I feel that it is very conditioning and leaves my hair very shiny and strong. It makes it very easy to comb my hair out after showering and because I have very long hair, this is probably the most important aspect of conditioning for me. The smell is a bit much. I usually like coconut and I thought I would really like this conditioner for its smell, but it’s a bit overwhelming for a conditioner. I don’t expect any conditioner to totally cure damaged hair, especially when I’m causing the damage using heat styling tools. That being said, I think it’s a decent conditioner for everyday use.

tarte Lengthen, Curl, and Volumize Mascara - Black

A Good Mascara, but Could Be Better

I received this Tarte mascara as a gift a few months back and was so excited to get to use this brand. It was the first Tarte mascara I’ve tried. First, the packaging is quite cute and unique, if that sort of thing matters to you. The lid, however, has a flap, which you can kind of see in the picture. I feel that this somewhat impedes one from closing the mascara properly, but maybe it was just me. Mine was in black and it was a deep, rich black and not at all chalky. It almost looked like ink when you put it on, that’s how wonderfully black this mascara is. I do love that about it. It is certainly true to color. I think it did well to not clump for much of the time I had it, but with each dip of the wand, you could tell it was getting clumpy. Clumpiness in mascara is very common and expected. I would have liked this in a waterproof formula because it ran and smudged quite badly and did not stay in place, even through an eight-hour work day. That is not good performance in my book. This mascara definitely gives lashes a voluminous look! My lashes certainly stood out when I used this and that might partly be because of the lustrous black color or maybe something in the formula itself, I’m not really sure. Finally, I want to comment on the ease of application. This mascara goes on like butter, not to sound cliché, but it is that smooth. The wand is thin and seems to hit exactly where you’d want it. I usually just put mascara on my upper lashes and I do not recall having any issues with the wand itself hitting the bottom lashes when I didn’t want it to. Overall, this is a nice, higher-end mascara.

    Crest Pro-Health Multi-Protection Rinse

    Ok, But Has Major Issues

I have always used Crest products and have never, ever had any issues with them. I’ve only recently started reconsidering the use of brands with added fluoride for safety and health reasons, but generally my checkups have been great with continued use of Crest products. I was thinking that the same could be said for the Crest Pro-Health Multi Protection Rinse. I tried the alcohol free version in the purple color for about a month before I started noticing that my teeth were getting brown spots near the gum lines. Luckily, I had a dentist appointment shortly after noticing this and it was cleaned off easily with the professional tools in their office. However, the hygienist told me that this was happening more and more because of the ingredients in this product and especially with the purple and orange varieties. I stopped using these colors and switched to the invigorating mint version, which is green in color, and stopped having the staining issues, which was a huge relief to be honest with you. That was very shocking and embarrassing to have those kinds of issues. I liked the invigorating mint at first because it made my mouth feel super clean and sanitized. After a few uses, however, I started noticing green specks in the sink when I rinsed and slowly my sensation of taste got distorted. It turns out that the green specks were actually bits of ginga taken out of my mouth by the mouth wash! It was literally cleaning off all the dead cells. While this may sound ok, it made my sense of taste way off for about a week and a half before it started to go back to normal. The good thing about Crest is their amazing customer service. If ever you have problems with any of their products, just contact customer service. I received a refund within days.

    Philosophy Hope in a Jar

    Not What I Expected

I usually love Philosophy products, and I really wanted to like Hope in a Jar, but this one sadly, disappointed me. After all the hype, I guess I was expecting a lot. Not to mention the price tag. It is mega expensive. I didn't think it moisturized that great, no better than the drugstore brand I was using and the smell was REALLY overwhelming, almost sickening. I think the scent is lavender and I usually like lavender, but not to this extreme. I could barely stand it. I actually think my problem areas got a bit worse after using this. That was enough to almost get me to stop using it, but the thing that really got me was when it separated. The oils separated leaving a weird film and turning the moisturizer a creepy yellow after just two months. This was what made me stop using it. When I had to keep stirring it in order to get the consistency back was when I decided that it probably wasn’t a good idea to be using this on my face anymore. Maybe I’m wrong, but that was just my thinking at the time. I can’t say all bad things about this product because it’s not all bad. It does moisturize and is gentle enough to use daily and even at night. It goes on smoothly, even if a little thin. I honestly like moisturizers to be thicker in consistency, but this one almost seems watery. It is made of great ingredients that are gentle and especially great for sensitive skin types. I do appreciate that it’s made with sensitivity in mind, which is what I find with most Philosophy products. Something that could improve this product further would be to not put this in a tub container and make it into a pump version to keep bacteria from building up.
