    Nars Lip Lacquer

    Chelsea girls.

i've been wanting to try Chelsea Girls forever, since i heard it was like the holy grail for nude lips. I tried it at my local sephora, did a good application and was immediately dismayed. it's JUST a typical nude lacquer, nothing i haven't tried before. I'm not a big fan of pots, i don't like dipping my fingers inside when i'm on the go (when i then have to wipe my finger and under my nail...) and being on the go, my lips are not always perfectly moistened and exfoliated. this opaque color will only highlight every dryness. the color also doesn't self-level, so it looks perfect around the outer edges of your lips , but in the inside where your lips are moist, it won't stick. you'd have to do a fair amount of blending and layering to get it looking right. So perhaps if i was a little more high maintenance and exfoliated and used a lip brush and lip base, it would be good. not so sure why everyone loves it so much, perhaps because cult items have a placebo effect on us?! (*p.s. even as a nude lip lover, this color would be hard to pull off, it washes out yellow based skin) perhaps i'll try it again in other colors....but the formula and packaging is still a no for me.

  • Anastasia Brow Powder Duo

    Anastasia Brow Powder Duo

    nothing new under the sun

i originally loved the concept of two co-ordinating shades next to each other in a tiny compact with a mirror, then i got to thinking-what's the point if the formulation and even the product is ordinary? there is no such thing as special brow powder- any matte, highly pigmented brown shades will do. add the $20+ price and the poor to average staying power of the powder and it's a pass. in fact, the whole anastasia line is just clever marketing when you think about it. brow products are nothing unique, just perhaps convenient.

  • Anastasia Brow Gel

i'm brow obsessed but even i wouldn't waste $20 on something that is so ordinary. this is nothing that clear mascara, brown mascara, hair gel or even chapstick won't do. brow products are largely a gimmick!

  • MAC Studio Sculpt SPF 15 Foundation

people boast about the flawless look from this new MAC foundation in the Studio Sculpt line. i wanted to love their products since i was bored with my Studio Select and Studio Tech foundations. However the transference on this product was horrible for me. After about an hour it wasn't my idea of dewy, it was shiny. Even with the MAC Prep+Prime Primer (which is another new product i'm not satisfied with, i think it's essentially a moisturizer). and every time i looked at my blackberry, there was my foundation all over the keys even when i started to set my foundation with powder, which i NEVER needed to do before. bottom line, i'm a normal-combination skin and this made me look oily. NC 25, my normal MAC shade in foundations also wasn't the truest, making me appear too sallow. The salesgirl told me the foundation is gel-based. sounds good for marketing purposes i guess, but who can expect their foundation to stay if it doesn't ever really dry? I think MAC needs to stop worrying about non-stop campaigns and start making products that are truly unique and work again! (if you can get hold of the MAC campaign schedule you will note there is AT LEAST a new collection every month! that's crazy!) 4 stars for the shade selection and the fact that i can return it! :(

  • MAC Studio Sculpt Concealer

i'll be the only dissenter so far when i say that this really did nothing for me. the whole point of a concealer is to conceal, and after only an hour, this was gone! perhaps that's due to it's super creamy formula, which blends wonderfully , but doesn't ever quite set. I wanted this new Studio Sculpt line to work for me but this didn't and neither did the foundation (same problem, transference). Maybe for those with drier skin who are looking for a really moisturizing base, but this had virtually no staying power for me. I've started to wonder about my old fav MAC; why all the new formulations and campaigns?! do they really need to keep adding to their foundation line? if the formulas really worked, wouldn't you only need about 6 (matte, satin, dewy) ? and in the different formulations (powder, cream, liquid)...my point, i think it's all starting to be just an advertising gimmick. i gave it a few stars for the shade range, but what's the point if it doesn't work?

  • Make Up For Ever Aqua Eyes Waterproof Eyeliner Pencil

Make Up For Ever Aqua Eyes Waterproof Eyeliner Pencil

Majorelle Blue 15L (metallic royal blue)

so far...so amazing! glides on, silky smooth. staying power so far is great. I love that i can use it on the inner rims, because due to its waterproof capabilities, it doesn't budge in those moist areas. the color range is an amazing beautiful variety, so if it works, i'll be fully switching over to MUFE aqua eyes liners. Also didn't know that it could double as a shadow, but i can definitely understand that due to it's creamy smudge factor. This color paired with my Dior DiorShow 258 cobalt blue mascara is an amazing way to make brown eyes pop!!!

  • Lancome Colour Focus Palette 4 Ombres
    10.0

Lancome Colour Focus Palette 4 Ombres

    Daria Werbowy limited edition palette.

This LE Lancome palette was created after a trip of the model spokeswoman's to Brazil. The earthy toned palette includes two chocolate shades, a yellow and a fawn color. it includes a small brush (best used for precision crease application rather than all-over) in a suede case with leather ties. It is my absolute favorite shadow set. I wanted something that was "everyday" and when i popped into my local sephora last summer ('08) this was a featured special. with my black hair and dark brown eyes, i thought it would be a good choice for everyday. the matte browns were a plus to not be too harsh for day and double as a brow powder when traveling (true matte shadows aren't easy to come by). i love all four colors now, and use them for both day and night looks. this palette is incredibly versatile for an earthy smoky eye and chic sophistication for day. i used it for my wedding knowing i could create the perfect eye look that's perfect in photos. This plus a well-defined brow and a light lip is my best look. I finish it with "Teddy" eye pencil by MAC and a carbon-black mascara of the moment. Never a bad result. That said, i'm dreading when it's finished, and have my fingers crossed that the ladies at Lancome can help me find or re-create something extremely similar. Another reviewer mentioned it's price as a possible step away from bumping up to Chanel. that's possible if you love Chanel products and colors. but with makeup, sometimes it's best to stop exploring and if it "isn't broke don't fix it!" *i've yet to branch out to other Lancome palettes. Based on this one alone, i will next time i'm in the market/at the counter, provided they have great color families of course.

  • Urban Decay Deluxe Eyeshadow

    Urban Decay Deluxe Eyeshadow

    amazing dramatic product

this isn't for those in favor of natural/neutral colors. this is night make-up for some, or regular day for other, but for all it's intense color. the colors are true, and strikingly pigmented. I swayed from MAC when i saw an UD color palette that had all the bold colors i was looking for (magenta, money green, turquoise, purple, baby pink). after one application, i was hooked. i strongly disagree with the editor for this product-- they are definitely not pastel hued (since when is kelly green pastel??) nor hard to blend. the UD shadows work alone or together like breeze, allowing for ombre looks OR layering. and during my initial experiments with the different colors, somehow they all look great TOGETHER. green and turquoise, purple and magenta. A palette of their shadows plus the 5 travel pack of their 24/7 liners in matching colors and you've got all your daring looks covered. a little goes a long way. My biggest love of this product is due to it's wear. AMAZING. lasted 16 hour work days and bartending nights. sweat, humidity, you name it. NEVER budged, no oily creases, nothing. and that's WITHOUT the infamous Eye Potion primer. with that, forget it. That said, since i love the quality of the product i do wish they made more neutral day colors so i could enjoy them that much more!

  • Dior Diorshow Mascara

that's my response to the new price hike (used to be $22-23 at nordstrom, what happened??!) and the ultra blue color (258) that i use. most people use the black i know, but for me, the formula isn't that unique. this color however, is. the intense vibrant blue is hard to come by; most colored mascaras aren't as daring and if they are, don't dry the same shade. this one is true royal blue with the same DiorShow formula (and rose scent). If you really want to coat your lashes in blue (which is an instant pick-me-up, eye whitener), you should use wipe the tip and use that. the filter really pulls most of the product off the huge brush so you need something more concentrated. this is a great color for brown eyes, and also for when you want something daring but not garish. Best for day when you can catch it in the sun and the lights--at night, wouldn't really show too much, just go for black! *but d*mn, that price tag is serious!!! :( i had to take off stars for an almost $30 tube of mascara. is it just me or do others feel the need for new mascara almost every month???

  • MAC Powder Blush
    9.0

    MAC Powder Blush

    "Harmony", matte

MAC blushes are great products, on par with the rest of the brand: great variety, color palette and quality for the price. Specifically, "Harmony" is my go-to color for contouring. it's completely matte and a deep nude, tan color perfect for creating shadows and accentuating bone structure. the color lasts. It's similar to Bare Escentuals "warmth" all over face color product without the messy application and with more lasting power.*6 MAC empties = a free lipstick at any MAC counter.
