La Mer Crème De La Mer

    Save Your Duckets

I hate being Debbie Downer, but I tried this, gave it a month's test-drive, did my research, and can only give this a rating of 5. Yes, it does moiturize, and yes, sometimes there is nothing better than a placebo -- which in my first few days I wanted to believe this product would be the answer to anti-aging -- but this so-called "cult moisturizer/miracle broth" didn't have any significant effect on my skin. (I have been using high-end products for a long time, so I don't always expect to see dramatic results." With ingredients such as sea kelp, calcium, magnesium, potassium, iron, lecithin, Vitamins C, E and B12, plus oils of citrus, eucalyptus, wheat germ, alfalfa, and sunflower, it is a lovely concoction, but for over $150, save your duckets. According to La Mer, the "miracle broth is distilled and fermented in a special method for 3-4 months and it's the fermentation that gives the broth special oomph. Fermatation my skin! Again, save your duckets.

  • Make Up For Ever Sens'Eyes Waterproof Sensitive Eye Cleanser

I have senstive eyes, and this is one of a few eye makeup removers that doesn't cause my eyes to water, although it is still strong enough to remove even waterproof mascara.

    Acceptable for the Price

I got this as a sample to review for the blog. For the price, it is an acceptable mascara. I am lash-challenged, and this product doesn't give me enough coverage to make my lashes stand out. I use it when I want a little mascara, without looking like I'm wearing mascara.

  • Philosophy Amazing Grace Restorative Perfumed Hand Cream

Oh, I love this. Amazing Grace is my signature scent. I carry this in my handbag at all times. When I need a hit of AG, I just slather on this light but moisturizing hand cream. When I layer it with the perfume, it has more staying power.

    Fake A Fresh Manicure

Not only does this product soften your cuticles, but it's a great way to fake freshly manicured nails. Just apply a coat of Solar Oil and you will look like you just stepped out of the salon. I use this all the time.

  • Sonia Kashuk Matte Blotting Papers

I keep these in my gym bag. As a personal trainer, I don't always have time to freshen up in between clients, and I can get quite a shine. -Jamie

  • Neutrogena Healthy Defense SPF 45 Daily Moisturizer

Neutrogena Healthy Defense SPF 45 Daily Moisturizer

Review From A Reformed Sun Goddess

As a reformed sun goddess, I have delved into the dark world of sunscreens. Helioplex was developed by Neutrogena and is contained in their sunscreen products. It offers long-lasting protection from UVA and UVB rays. Many sunscreens don't offer protection from both UVA and UVB. Mexoryl SX, a technology developed by L'Oreal, also offers protection from both types of rays. Having tried Neutrogena's Dry Touch, I was greatly disappointed with the powdery residue that it left on my skin. Neutrogena Healthy Defense SPF 45 Daily left me feeling very happy. Not only is it moisturizing, it does a fabulous job of protecting you from those pesky age spots and sunburns.

  • Eucerin Intensive Repair Extra-Enriched Hand Creme

The buzz word in skin care products these days is growth factors, but expensive formulations, like Neocutis and SkinMedic TNS can leave you bankrupt. The next step down in skin care are moisturizing creams. Hands needs moisture more than any other part of the body. Even though Eucerin contains alpha hydroxy and urea, this product won't reverse sun damage or create new collagen. For that type of success, you need products that contain growth factors or undergo a Fraxel treatment. That being said, Eucerin Plus Intensive Repair Hand Cream is a good way to moisturize and exfoliate your hands. For $5, it's one of the best drugstore finds.

  • NeoCutis Journee Bio-restorative Day Cream

Journee was recommended by my dermatologist at my last appointment. There is no doubt that this a pricey beauty product, but with the combination of ingredients -- green tea extract, melanin, cytokines, growth factors, other antioxidants, and SPF of 30 -- it's the only product currently on the market that contains all the ingredients in one bottle. Although Neocutis hasn't discovered the fountain of youth, it's getting closer. It is also fragrance-free, thus phthalates-free, and safe for your skin. The formula is lightweight and application feels like a primer. Although the color is that of a foundation, it quickly turns to clear. Growth factors are the hot topic in skin care. Journee contains growth factors which allegedly promote new collagen formation.

    SkinMedica TNS Recovery Complex

    Next Best Thing To Fraxel

Yes, this is an expensive beauty product and you won't see immediate progress from TNS, but patience is a virtue in this case. TNS Recovery Complex is one of four products currently on the market that contain growth factors. Growth factors promote new collagen formation. It is not as successful as Fraxel, which is 2-1/2 times more expensive (requiring three to five sessions), but it's the next best thing.
