I stay happy and balaced by taking small amounts of time each day to unwind and completely relax. I have an awesome hammock i can set up on my patio and it's heavenly to lay out and read or take a refreshing nap. A relaxing activity is Yoga, it balances my body and mind I always feel happy after the practice.
What keeps me happy and balanced is designating and scheduling ME time. Basically, it's just a time to treat myself and not worry about other problems/people. I like to incorporate music because that's the fastest way to lift my mood.
I stay balanced and happy through daily exercise, meditation, healthy diet, good hydration, and keeping a sense of humor. If you read nothing else I write, please read this and take it to heart.....having a day off....a vacation....some sort of time away from the day-in-day-out is huge for creating and keeping balance. We lose perspective in the daily living and regain it when we take a step back and catch our breath! Keep on walking the tightrope - balance is key to survival. 
I have so many family member and friends that each one gives me support from every aspect that i need when I am going through things.
I stay balanced and happy by first starting the day with 10 minutes of meditation. Then I do a 45 minute workout. I do volunteer work, which is very rewarding. I am a volunteer for the Wild Spirit Wolf Sanctuary. I take photographs of the wolves, and help out with education programs and fund raisers. Doing this work makes me happy because I am helping the wolves and educating children about them. I also stay balanced and happy by writing and signing petitions for worthy causes such as saving our wolves, whales, dolphins, polar bears, starving and homeless people, and to stop the passage of a Congressional Bill to allow hunting in our national parks. What also keeps me balanced and happy is being an "Elder Advice Giver" for the Elder Wisdom Circle, an on- line service for young people who seek advice about relationships, self esteem, careers and love. There is nothing more rewarding than to get feedback like "thank you for the advice; I did what you recommended, and it made all the difference in the world." My happiness and balance also comes from being married for 37 years to a man who loves me.

I aim to do my yoga practice each morning, including breathing and meditation. This sets me on the right track. I eat a vegan diet but allow for sweet (vegan) splurges to balance it out. And I spend as much time as possible cuddling, brushing, and playing with our beautiful cat, Sara, who has "adopted" me and showers me with love! Pure happiness!

My Dad always used to tell me—"In order to be happy act happy", and there's a lot of truth in that. If you run around complaining and frowning all the time how can you be happy? So I try to keep a happy mood abd spread the happiness whereever I go.
