Makeup
I had to go for my annual mole check this a.m. and I, not surprisingly, had to have another mole removed -- from my neck! Not pretty. Looks like I'm covering up an Edward bite mark with gauze and a bandaid. I've now had about 12-plus moles removed and biopsied -- thankfully none have come back as being cancerous. This is all due to my lovely genetics. My grandmother has had melonoma and my dad just had a huge cancerous chunk removed from his shoulder. So, I mention that to any derm and they start shaving off moles left and right. Is there anyone else out there that's as mole-y as I am? How many have you had removed? If you haven't been to a derm to have your moles checked, you should -- or at least take this quiz to see if you should make an appt. stat. It's a good one.
10 RepliesHey Kristen,
I definitely feel your situation, though I've been fortunate to not have any moles removed yet. I have a ton though and I get them checked out annually by my dermatologist and my regular doctor. I have a more of a yellow undertone and no history of skin cancer in my family fortunately (but they've all lived in the Pacific Northwest until recently and I live in sunny Southern California).
I do have a few that are on my watch list though that I do my best to keep covered up at all time. I also have invested in a HUGE sun hat. Some of my friends have made fun of me for it but I don't care it keeps me covered.
My best advice for other moley gals like us ... shun the sun :)
I lost count. I kid you not, one of my nicknames is "Mole-y Molly." My dad had melanoma (but luckily survived!) and I'm covered in abnormal moles, so I have to visit my derm biannually and she usually removes at least two moles per visit. Sigh. I'm overdue for a visit, but I dread getting biopsied. Like you, Kristen, all of my moles have come back from the lab benign so far. Phew.
Hi Kristen!
Hi had to remove one years ago...because it was on my nose and here where I live we have sunny days almost the whole year...so my dermatolog. told me to remove it just as prevention...I have some moles on my neck too but for now there're no problems with them
I think I've had about three removed so far, one came back with pre-cancerous cells so they had to remove some of the skin around it. It sucks because I scar easily so I have very clear reminders of where they all were. Definitely not something I thought about while laying out in the sun as a kid, oops.
I wish there was a way they could remove moles without leaving a scar. So not attractive!
Not one. BUT I have a big one on the back of the leg that could use a date with the scalpel. Im' too scared to actually set the two up though.
One, I spent years tanning and going to tanning beds. I was bronzed, but, had a cancerous mole on my are removed. I now avoid the sun and use sunscreen religously!
I have had 1 mole removed from my arm but I am always checking my moles bc skin cancer runs on both sides of my family.
My husband has moles on his back and one on his leg that I am always bugging him about bc I'm so worried about it. He has had 2 removed on his back that came back pre-cancerous. I now always bug him to put on sunscreen!!!
I wouldn't consider myself a moley person but I do have them. I also have not had any removed yet. No cancer in my family (knock on wood) and my doc always checks on mine. I know they will have to be taken off eventually but I am actually pretty scared to do so. I have grown so accustomed to how they look that I couldn't imagine myself without them. I may get seperation anxiety! For those of you who have had them removed, does it hurt? does it scar? do you miss them?
