Makeup
Just curious if anyone has any tips to get rid of this. My doctor told me to use lotion daily. I've gone through a number of brands at this point. I did not get this acne until after pregnancy and when I went back onto birth control. It is a little weird because birth control use to help keep acne away and now it seems to increase it, but only on my arms. Mostly I am annoyed because people keep telling me I have a rash or that I am breaking out--they make a big deal and freak out like I need to go to the hospital. I have had it looked at and it is just acne (white heads, get red, pus forms a head, they're small but a lot of them). I did find that shaving my arms helps the acne to go away. It doesn't come back when it starts to grow back in either. It starts up again when the hair starts to get back to the normal length. The doctor said not to shave the arms because this can make it worse. I also tried a pumice stone (very very lightly) to exfoliate during a shower and then applied lotion when I got out. It still doesn't go away. I'm not sure what to do about it at this point but I would love some tips to try. Should I consider using oil or will it clog my pores and make it worse?
12 RepliesHello, I recommend not using lotion where you have acne as it is very possible that it contains oil that will clog pores. If you need to moisturize then get a moisturizer that is nonacnegenic (does not make acne worse) and one that is oil free. I recommend using "Cetaphil" products as it is oil free and not damaging to the skin. Your acne could be caused by hormonal fluctuations as well as. What type of birth control do you take? There are ones that are estrogen based and ones that are androgen-based and the ones that are androgen-based increase testosterone which is what gives us acne. If you check my profile I wrote a review for a product called "Acnetame" which is specifically designed for hormonal acne. I take this when I experience hormone fluctuations around my period. Hormone fluctuations can also be caused by diet. Sugar and dairy are two big culprits in hormonal acne. What you want to include in your diet are essential fats such as avocado and fish low glycemic carbs like sweet potato and brown rice which take longer to digest and don't spike our insulin levels much which is what causes those hormone fluctuations. Supplementing with fish oil and evening primrose oil is also very beneficial. I hope you find this information helpful and hopefully it will help cure you of your acne!
There is this Le Edge gadget that acts like a shaver but it does not shave. It suppose to exfoliate and you can find it on Amazon for quite cheap, like a few dollars. Another suggestion is to try AmLactin body lotion which has either lactic acid or AHA that helps to exfoliate while it moisturizes.
Few days ago, I read a review on Zeroblem a dermatologist developed acne treatment. It is an advanced skin clarifying compounds that penetrate deep into pores in affected areas to remove dirt and other impurities. You may try this.
Exfoliation is key however pumice stones and shaving are a bit harsh. Exfoliating gloves work really well along with a body wash suitable for sensitive skin. My gf had the same issue and once she started using the gloves it cleared up after a week or so! Good luck!
Wear cotton clothes, keep that area clean, use tea tree oil so avoid itchiness and infection. Tea tree oil is a proven solution for skin problems so if you'll use it regularly it will be helpful. Hope it works!
have you tested cuncomber paste ?
How is lotion going to help it? Wont that clog the pores more and make you break out more?
I am not sure exactly how it is supposed to help. My skin looks nicer and feels soft minus the bumps, but the acne is still there. Maybe she was hoping it would reduce the appearance?
