I was going to post a transcript of our staff's banter on the premiere of "The Hills" season four, but frankly, my fingers couldn't keep up. One of the biggest debates however was whether Whitney Port, above left, had hair extensions like her costar Audrina Patridge, above right. I don't know ... I thought her hair looked pretty natural. One of my colleagues here at TotalBeauty.com, Kerstin, recently completed a half-marathon (congratulations Kerstin! See her finish photo above) and because she's such a dedicated runner and a naturally gorgeous woman, I had to know what products she uses before a race and in general. She's 40 but doesn't look a day over 30. Maybe it's all of the exercise and the fact that she eats a lot of vegetables and takes vitamins, but I think it also has to do with her beauty regime.

If you watched women's gymnastics last night, you probably feel as outraged as I do that Nastia Liukin tied and ultimately got silver on the uneven bars. She clearly performed a better routine and should be proud of herself.

I learned a great little trick for soothing sunburned or irritated skin from esthetician Dana Waldie at the Verabella Skin Therapy Salon. Celebrities like Zooey Deschanel, Diane Lane, Nicole Ritchie and Kelly Rutherford (of "Gossip Girl") are big fans of the place. They actually offer a "Cool as a Cucumber" facial at the salon, but here's how to get a similar effect at home:

So much has been going on in the beauty world this summer that I thought I'd give you some highlights:

• This seemed too crazy not to share: Tria Beauty has come out with an at-home laser hair removal system. Personally, I barely trust myself with a razor, let alone a laser, but maybe others have the steady hand to attempt this. It's available at Fred Segal Studio and costs $995 if you're interested. I think I'll stick with my Gillette for now.

So the gossip of the day will be about Lindsay defending sister Ali. It's rumored that Ali may have gotten breast implants and Lindsay has reportedly argued that it's totally false and that she can't believe that anyone would think that their mother would allow her 14-year-old sister to get breast enhancements ... I'll let you ponder that one.

Congrats to Katie Hoff and Michael Phelps, who both broke swimming records at U.S. Olympics!

At the recent premiere of Woody Allen's "Vicky Christina Barcelona" star Penelope Cruz shined. Fellow cast-mate Scarlett Johansson looked gorgeous as usual too but it's hard to take your eyes off of Penelope. Her hair is cut in long layers and has some slight red streaks in them that almost look natural. I think I might steal this look the next time I get my hair done, what do you think?
