Chanel is making its first foray into men's makeup and the new line already has the most perfect name ever: Boy de Chanel.
The name actually has something of a double meaning — because in addition to referencing, well, the boys it's designed for, it also pays homage to Boy Capel, Gabrielle Chanel's longtime lover and muse (fans of the brand are likely already well acquainted with the brand's other popular products holding the "Boy" moniker, such as the suitably androgynous
Chanel Rouge Coco Shine Hydrating Sheer Lipshine in Boy, $37).
The three-piece collection includes a sheer foundation, a brow pencil and a lip balm — the essentials, in other words. The foundation is formulated with hydrating hyaluronic acid, soft light-reflecting micro-particles and SPF 25, and promises to have a sheer, lightweight and "imperceptible" finish. The brow pencil (which can also be used to shade in facial hair) features a longwear waterproof formula, with a twist-up stylo on one end and a spoolie on the other. As for the lip balm, it's "non-shiny" and is formulated with ultra-hydrating ingredients like jojoba oil, shea butter and vitamin E. They all sound pretty good,
non?
"Just as Gabrielle Chanel borrowed elements from the men's wardrobe to dress women, Chanel draws inspiration from the women's world to write the vocabulary of a new personal aesthetic for men," said the
brand in a statement to WWD.
Has the day finally come that women are going to be borrowing makeup from men? Boy de Chanel launches September 1 in South Korea and will be available to the rest of the world online in November, eventually making its way to the physical shelves of Chanel boutiques in January.
