    CoverGirl LipPerfection Lipcolor

    couldn't tolerate the taste

I bought this based on the high rating here, and because the color Hot was exactly the rich, blue-based red I was looking for. (I used the colormatch utility on the CoverGirl website, which I have to say is extremely impressive and useful.) It did go on smoothly, and looked terrific. (Yay colormatch!) Then I went out for a special dinner with my husband (who also loved the color on me) and quickly discovered I could taste an unpleasant, chemical, lip-sticky taste with every bite I ate. I didn't want a lipstick to ruin a rare date night, so I went to the ladies room and wiped it off with a moist wipe, and applied tinted balm in its place. Dinner was saved, but not the lipstick, which I returned. There are others in the same price range that don't have this issue. That's really too bad, because otherwise I liked it.

Physicians Formula Matte Collection Quad Eye Shadow

I can create an understated, polished, professional eye with this in no time flat

This in "Canyon Classics" has replaced the L'Oreal Paris Wear Infinite Eye Shadow Quad in "Neutrals" as my go-to eye shadow for day time. It goes on smoothly, is non-irritating on my sensitive skin and is ridiculously easy to blend. I can create an understated, polished, professional eye with this in no time flat -- which is a Godsend for those rushed mornings. The only caveat is that it doesn't look its best applied over bare skin -- it works best over some kind of primer, which renders it long-lasting and crease proof. I simply take whatever makeup I've used to cover my rosacea that morning, and also apply it on my eyelids and up to my brows. That is perfectly sufficient to keep this eye shadow in place (as well as covering the eyelid veins that show through my fair skin). My only complaint is that the color names are confusing. I had once tried the "Classic Nudes" but the color wasn't flattering to me. As I became more knowledgeable about color (thanks to some of the tutorials here on TotalBeauty!), I realized that "Classic Nudes" is too warm for me. I think they should rename "Classic Nudes" to be "Warm Nudes," and "Canyon Classics" (what works for me) to be "Cool Nudes." I would highly recommend this o anyone looking for a high-quality matte eye shadow.

  • Aveeno Positively Ageless Correcting Tinted Moisturizer SPF 30

I really wanted to like this, but like other reviewers I found it was too oily, and sat on top of my skin with an unnatural appearance. I ended up returning it.

  • Moisture Surge CC Cream Hydrating Colour Corrector Broad Spectrum SPF 30

This product was a big disappointment as a CC cream. It's heavy and doesn't moisturize -- I had to apply moisturizer to my face first, and then thin this with still more moisturizer in order to use it (not the time saving one product experience I was looking for). Even after all that effort the resulting look was flat, not fresh and dewy. It did even out my complexion somewhat, although I still needed a concealer on top of it to completely hide dark circles and rosacea (still more effort I was hoping to avoid). This product seemed much more like a foundation to me than a CC cream -- and only an average foundation at best. After giving this an honest effort over a two-week period, I ended up returning it.

CoverGirl Clump Crusher by LashBlast Mascara

    doesn't do what it promises

I've been using CoverGirl's LashBlast Fusion mascara for the past year, and have reviewed it very favorably here. When this one came out I was eager to try it, since the LashBlast Fusion did occasionally produce clumps. Unfortunately, after a month of use, I've decided, "Clump Crusher" doesn't live up to its name or its predecessor. It does produce fewer clumps by about half -- but I still need to get out the clean mascara brush to remove some clumps almost every time. Also, the formula is quite thin, so it does little to thicken and nothing to lengthen -- and it's poor at holding a curl. It's fine for a light look for work (as long as I resign myself to losing most of my curl by day's end), but I'm going to either go back to the LashBlast Fusion or find a better product when I want lush, curled lashes for special events.

  • Rosebud Perfume Co. Smith's Rosebud Salve Tin

I first heard about this in a list of top-rated lip balms, and then when I saw it in Sephora I thought it was so charmingly retro I had to get it. It looked like something my grandmother would have used. I decided I don't like to use it on my lips because of the taste, but I've discovered it's a wonderful product to massage into my hands and feet at the end of a long, tiring day, when I've collapsed in front of the TV. My hands and feet end up wonderfully moisturized, and the light rosebud fragrance is good for the soul.

  • Revlon ColorStay Eye Liner

    Revlon ColorStay Eye Liner

    a great "starter" liquid eyeliner

Because I’m fair my eyes tend to vanish into my face, and so I always look much better with a simple brown eye liner. The problem has been that I’ve never liked eye liner pencils – my hand isn’t steady enough, and I’ve found it hard to get a natural look with them. For years I’ve been using a dampened eye liner brush to apply a dark brown matte eye shadow as my liner, and that’s worked reasonably well. It’s more forgiving of mistakes and more natural looking, although it’s time consuming enough that if I’m in a rush I’m forced to skip it, and sometimes I do end up with raccoon eyes at the end of the day. So long story short, I became curious about liquid eye liners and researched them in the reviews here. This product is my first foray in to liquid eye liners, based on the reviews you all have shared. And I have to say, it’s working beautifully. I got it in blackish brown, and it glides on easily with a smooth, clean line, that is still soft and natural-looking. If I’m in a rush I can just do one quick sweep above and below each eye and I’m good to go. If I have more time, I can layer and define it more for a bolder look. And as far as staying power, the first time I tried it (just around the house) I first drew a couple test lines on the palm of my hand to get a sense of the thickness of the applicator – then forgot to wash them off. When I finally noticed them a couple hours later, they were as strong and clean as when I’d first applied them – and this was after doing chores around the house and petting my cats. So, I would say this product is a winner.

  • Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick

I got this in Just Enough Buff, which is a nice sheer nude shade that tones down rather than covers my lips. For a while I wore it a lot, but gradually began to notice that I had to reapply it frequently because my lips felt dry. Eventually I realized it was the lipstick making them feel dry, and stopped wearing it. There are better alternatives.

  • Revlon ColorStay Mineral Lipglaze

If I could have given this product 0 stars, I would have. I was looking for a peachy-pink nude lip gloss for spring and summer, and the Timeless Nude was the perfect shade for me. I was also attracted by the claim that it's a mineral product, and the elegant design of the tube, which fits in your hand nicely. When I applied it, it did look very good on my lips and had minimal stickiness, but I also immediately noticed the first negative: a strong sickly-sweet odor. It was vaguely tropical, like pina coladas and mangoes, but far too strong and unpleasant. The second negative was that my lips began to sting mildly. That's never happened to me before with any lip product. Both the odor and the stinging did subside after a short while, and I continued to wear it. About 2 hours later I ate a snack, and then glanced in the mirror to check how the lip gloss was holding up -- and I was horrified to see that my lips were actually peeling! I've written in other reviews about having issues with products that aggravate the rosacea on my cheeks, or having reactions to perfumed products, but never before have my lips had a reaction to a product. Needless to say, I immediately scrubbed it off with a wash cloth, and then applied the most moisturizing lip balm I own. That was yesterday, and today my lips, while no longer peeling, are still sensitive and "thirsty" for lip balm. I will be babying them for a few days -- and returning this product. I have multiple sensitivities and allergies, so this product may not affect all users as it did me -- but I would advise anyone with a history of sensitivities to other products to be wary with this one.

better off with a tinted balm

This dried out my lips terribly. I'm better off with a tinted balm. It seems like this is something marketed more towards kids.
