  • Maybelline New York Mineral Power Finishing Veil Pressed Powder

Packaging: The Natural Perfecting Mineral Power pressed powder comes in a compact. A nifty one at that. The compact opens, as most due, but no mirror. Just product. To get to the mirror you slide the bottom of the compact open and there is the mirror as well as a sponge applicator. The sponge applicator isn't terrible quality, but it isn't great either. I would call it average. I use this applicator for setting my under-eye concealer and around the sides of my nose. I also use it for touch-ups, should I need them. The lid doesn't click shut as some compacts do. Mine closes but if I turned it upside down it would open right up. I wouldn't say this is terribly sanitary. My compact stays in my vanity drawer so it's not bad for me but if you were to want to put it in your bag, it may be a problem. I find the powder to last longer than the liquid. I am on my second bottle of liquid foundation while still using the first compact of pressed powder. I have hit pan, but still have plenty to use! The product is .32 oz. I would say this is in-line with other drugstore brand compacts. Performance: The pressed powder states it is a "finishing veil powder". It is meant to set your foundation/tinted moisturizer. I wouldn't recommend using this powder alone if you want coverage. It is sheer and works great for setting without thickening your look. This product helps my foundation to last longer. I can get about 8 hours or so before I start to notice my redness coming back for a visit. This product is talc-free and fragrance-free! (Note: Neither of these products are mattifying. If you have oily skin, like me, you will need to blot/touch-up with these products.) I use a regular kabuki brush and buff the product onto my skin. It blends seamlessly. After both foundation and powder have been applied, my skin tone is even and my flaws are covered nicely while still looking natural!

  • Maybelline New York Mineral Power Natural Perfecting Liquid Foundation

I will continue to use this as long as they are available to me (which, I'm afraid, may not be that much longer)! I have noticed most stores are no longer carrying these. Boo! Prior to using this I used a different Maybelline liquid foundation for years which was discontinued, leading me to find the above. I love Maybelline and since I had such a great relationship with my old foundation, I wanted to try Maybelline again. I admit, when I was searching I didn't know which product to go with. Foundations by Maybelline now seem to be all anti-age and what-not. I saw the Natural Perfecting Mineral Power foundation and compared the package size to my old product and made sure it had SPF, etc. etc. The price wasn't bad (under $10) so I figured I would give it a try and picked up the pressed powder to use as a setting powder and went home. Packing: The first thing I noticed was the tip. It's not an open-mouth foundation like most other drugstore foundations. Rather, it has a squeeze tip. This is absolutely fabulous for controlling the amount of product you want! It is also nice in keeping the opening clean and not having wasted product all over the place and in the cap (as I previously experienced). The product itself comes in 1 fl. oz. packaging, similar to most other foundations both drugstore and high-end alike. I am on my second bottle and I would say, considering how often I wear makeup, the first bottle lasted quite a long time! I, unfortunately, can't give you an exact time-frame as I didn't make note of my purchase. I wasn't expecting to review it at the time I bought it. Performance: For application I use my fingers. I have never used a brush to apply liquid foundation. I used a makeup sponge with my old foundation but that was because the formula was thicker. The Maybelline Natural Perfecting Foundation is a bit more liquid-y. I wouldn't say it's as runny as MAC Face & Body but it isn't as thick as some others. I actually quite like the consistency. It makes application and blending a dream! I have a lot of facial redness and I need a foundation that can even out my skin tone without looking thick and cakey. This product delivers for me! I apply product from the middle of my index finger (I have tiny hands, haha) towards the tip. I then dab the product on each of my cheeks, my nose, my chin and across my forehead. Then, I blend. This foundation glides across the skin with ease and never leaves streaky lines. I have an odd quirk where I go around my jawline with a tissue to make sure there aren't lines. This is due to my old foundation which would sometimes make me look like I was wearing a mask no matter how well I tried to blend. I did this for so long now it's second nature and just something I prefer to do. It gives enough coverage to even my skin tone and yet, look as if I'm still bare-faced. I love that I still look like me! "Natural Perfecting" indeed! If you are someone who needs heavy coverage, this product is not for you. I recommend this product to people who want "natural" coverage. It's more than a tinted moisturizer but probably coming in just under "full-coverage". My old foundation was a bit more full-coverage than these. This product does not break me out. I believe the minerals in it helps to prevent clogging of pores, etc. All in all, I love this product! But, when I run out, I will be trying something new. Mostly because, yet again, my foundation is being discontinued (or so it seems). The other reason being, I just want to try something new!
