The Body Shop Body Butter Duos

    One of my HG Products

I have this in vanilla. The lighter side spreads easily - good for covering large areas. It still gives excellent moisture. I use the intense side for elbows, knees, hands, and my legs if necessary. Both absorb without residue, leaving my skin smooth and soft, keeping my mild eczema at bay and getting rid of elephant elbows. For the winter I'd probably go for one of the more traditional, intense body butters, but for the rest of the year this is my choice because it is more versatile.

  • Burt's Bees Thoroughly Therapeutic Honey & Shea Body Butter

Apparently they reformulated this product and it is pretty terrible now. It has an odd texture - something between lotion and butter. It doesn't fully absorb even when applied after the shower and leaves a sticky, greasy residue. The smell is sickly-sweet and awful. A total miss.

  • Kate Walsh Boyfriend Eau de Parfum

I saw this on the list of "celebrity fragrances our editors are embarrassed to love," and I share the sentiment. I won't even test most celebrity perfumes because they inspire such feelings of aversion. But when a sample of this perfume was offered at Sephora, I decided to ignore the tacky selling pitch and give it a shot. After all, jasmine and vanilla are my two favourite notes (though there are perfumes that include both which I hate). I was pleasantly surprised by the perfume and wound up purchasing it. It probably helped that I had only had the vaguest idea of who Kate Walsh was at the time (I've never watched Grey's Anatomy or Private Practice), and I probably wouldn't have bought it post-Billionaire Boyfriend (I REALLY find that one tacky), but I bought it and I do enjoy it. But I digress. As to the scent itself: I hardly find it masculin; it doesn't make me think of the way "a guy smells on a girl". Yes there are notes like musk and wood that are often associated with cologne, but they are found in women's perfume too. I'm not saying those who claim it is masculine are wrong, because I haven't smelled it on them and all perfumes are affected by body chemistry, I can only say that was not my experience. Like many (most?) orientals, it can go on strong. At first, the plum and amber dominate. Curiously, they dominate much more with the .5oz bottle I got than they did with the sample. I like the sweet plummy scent, but the perfume as first spritzed is not something I'd be inclined to wear. I much prefer how it smells after a few minutes: it is no longer so strong, and the night-blooming jasmine appears, and I can detect the vanilla woods. Neither the Jasmine nor the vanilla woods are as strong as I remember them being in the sample, which is unfortunate in my opinion, but it is still a pleasurable scent: sensual and intoxicating; sweet, but not as much as a more strictly gourmand perfume. The musk gives it a feeling of intimacy. Overall I find it to be a notably good formulation for the price - at least on me. I get the impression that it is affected a great deal by body chemistry, so definitely test it on your skin before deciding if it is for you. Is it my favourite perfume? No, but is probably the perfume that has been the best surprise; anyways I can't afford Prada L'eau Ambrée.

  • Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blush

Looooove this blush. I own it in both Blissful and Blushing Bride. I tried Tipsy and it is gorgeous but I had copper-red hair at the time and it was just too much orange-red going on, but if you don't have red hair you may want to try it. These blushes are highly pigmented so apply with a light hand! I've never done a time test but it does seem to last all day. I didn't think I could love any blush as much as I love Nars blush but this blush comes close, and in some ways I like it more! (it does seem better for my skin). Highly recommended.

  • Fresh Supernova Mascara

    Fresh Supernova Mascara

    Review subject

I adore this mascara. I splurged on it after I realized how much drugstore mascaras were harming my lashes - not only drying them out but making them thinner and less supple. I will never go back. Not only did this mascara make my lashes look more beautiful while on - longer, fuller, with excellent definition - but it really did condition my lashes. Yes, it is $25, but many mascaras are that much or more so in that context I think it is worth it if you have that sort of budget. Unfortunately I did not and do not, so I was unable to repurchase it, opting instead for Tarte's Lights, Camera, Lashes (purchased with a discount). I do love LCL (and I am going to keep experimenting), but it didn't make me go WOW like Supernova did and it didn't condition my lashes quite as noticeably.

  • Tarte Lights Camera Lashes 4-in-1 Mascara
    9.0

Tarte Lights Camera Lashes 4-in-1 Mascara

    Beautiful and Healthy Lashes

This is an excellent mascara. It gave volume, curl, and some length to my lashes for a look that was gorgeous enough for night looks without being too dramatic for day wear. Some may find it too dramatic for day but on me at least it didn't scream "hey I'm wearing lots of mascara!" I had no trouble with flaking. Most importantly (to me) it conditioned my lashes. I finally abandoned drugstore mascara when I realized how dried out my lashes were - how much thinner they had gotten! I splurged on Fresh Supernova and the change was remarkable. I don't love LCL quite as much as I love Supernova, but it is more affordable (especially if you wait patiently for a deal at Tarte). Both mascaras improved the condition of my lashes.

  • Tarte Gifted Amazonian Clay Smart Mascara

I love Tarte's "Lights, Camera, Lashes!" mascara, and I love the Amazonian Clay blush even more, so I decided to try this mascara. I really liked it...at first. Unfortunately, after a few weeks it began to dry out. And I live in DC, which isn't exactly a dry climate. I don't think it has dried out my lashes (as virtually every drugstore mascara I tried did), and I don't have problems with flaking or smudging, but it now clumps and won't glide on smoothly. I don't think it is even as dark as it once was. I still use it because I haven't had the money to spare for a new mascara, but it isn't doing much for my lashes. I wish I had reordered "Lights, Camera, Lashes!" instead.
