Boscia Vital Daily Moisture SPF 15

    Nice, light moisturizer

A nice, light-weight moisturizer. This was(is?) my go to summer moisturizer. It is a super light lotion that spreads around and sinks in quick, quick, quick. It's nice for during the summer, or for anyone who likes a lighter moisturizer. On my dry skin it isn't enough for winter. I was going to give this a seven, but it is amended to a nine given than they seem to have switched formulas to a non-chemical SPF. The older tubes have a chemical SPF (the one in my bathroom does anyway.) If you are chemical SPF sensitive, make sure you double check the ingredients to see if it's a fresh, chemical-free tube.

BareMinerals Original Foundation Broad Spectrum SPF 15

Too shiny, not enough color choices and overall bleh

I really wanted to love BE. It was the first mineral foundation I'd ever heard of, and the first I'd ever tried. Even with the new editions to the color family there is still not enough. The fairly light and light, although a decent match in depth of color are totally wrong for my undertones. (Although, in BE's defense I can pretty much never find a matching foundation from any "big" brand). If you really want to try minerals, go for a small etailer mineral makeup brand that doesn't contain the bismuth, the stuff that makes you have to buff it in. Most have a huge selection of color choices to boot, and different formulas for different skin types and/or different desired finishes.

Too Faced Caribbean in a Compact

A nice subtle "faux tan" bronze w/glow

This is also called "Sun Bunny," by the way. This is a nice bronzer that would work on a lot of skin tones. It has more color than both Snow Bunny and Pink Leopard, but not as much as the Beach Bunny (California in a Compact.) On my light complexion this gives a nice faux tan look that is still natural. I use this on days when I want to get that "I actually went to the beach" look. Like the other Too Faced bronzers though, I would recommend a light hand. Piling on too much just cakes on the shine and not all that much more color. But if you use a light hand you will get a nice and natural glowing bronze.

Too Faced Pink Leopard Bronzing Powder

My favorite "your skin, but better" bronzer

I love love blush and bronzers. When I first saw this one I thought the pink bits would make it not work with my skin, but I was wrong! This isn't a faux-tan in a box bronzer. This is a "my skin, but better" bronzer on my light to fair complexion. I wear it on the bridge of the nose, cheekbones, and a tiny bit on my chin and forehead. It adds a nice glowy warmth. I find it to give a nice dewy/glowy finish rather than super shimmery and overdone. HOWEVER, if you try to pile it on to get more color, you will just end up looking oddly shimmery with no extra color. Stick to this if you want a subtle complexion enhancing bronzing highlighter, not if you want a faux tan.

Too Faced Snow Bunny Luminous Bronzer

Nice, but too shimmery for me

I thought this would be my HG bronzer out of all of the Too Faced bronzers, but I actually found this looked a little off on my skin. The white strip gave too much of a cool silvery sparkle to my skin. If you are more of a gold/bronze/copper girl, or if you don't like bronzer with too much shimmer, then I wouldn't recommend Snow Bunny. Blending the other three colors still looks pretty good, however, and I do like to use the white strip under my brows for a nice subtle highlight.

  • Mary Kay Oil-Free Eye Makeup Remover

Mary Kay Oil-Free Eye Makeup Remover

Good "quick fix" eye makeup remover

This stuff removes any and all eye makeup the first time, no problems. It leaves a weird residue, not "oily" per se, but a little weird. I usually use this for cleaning up eye makeup goofs. I wet one end of a Q-tip with this and use it to clean up any mistakes, and then use the dry end to dab off any excess moisture and the weird residue from the remover. I still prefer my olive oil/jojoba/castor oil mix for all over cleansing, but when you need a quick fix this is great.

  • Neutrogena Sensitive Skin Sunblock Lotion SPF 30

I actually have the SPF 60 Purescreen rather than the SPF 30, but TotalBeauty doesn't have that one up yet. Now I like chemical sunscreens in most regards. For most of my face and my body they work just fine, but I absolutely cannot have a chemical sunscreen within an inch of my eyes or they BURN. To test this I piled this stuff on around my eyes, right up to the very edge of my waterlines. WIth a chemical block my eyes would have been burning and watering by that point, but I had zero issue with this stuff! Like any physical SPF this does take a bit more effort to blend it into the skin, but the lack of irritation is so worth it. I am still using y Aveeno Continuous Protection block on the rest of my face (at least until I run out,) but this is now my "eye-screen." Now to convince cosmetic companies to stop putting chemical SPF in all foundations . . . but I digress.

  • Maybelline New York Instant Age Rewind Double Face Perfector

I found a review of this somewhere comparing it to YSL Touche Eclat, and decided to give it a try. I've had mixed results. The concealer end needs a VERY light touch; my skin ended up having a masky "I'm wearing makeup" look to it otherwise — not pretty. The highlighter end does wonders for my under eye area in particular. From years of squinting and rubbing my eyes I have some fine lines, and this covers up any darkness and brightens without emphasizing my lines. However, the highlighter is not shimmery, so if you are looking more for a shimmery luminescent look I would not recommend it for that.

  • Mary Kay NouriShine Plus Lip Gloss

Mary Kay NouriShine Plus Lip Gloss

    Awesome long-lasting gloss

This is hands down my favorite lip gloss. This gloss is highly moisturizing, but still lasts forever and does not dry sticky. I am even able to drink and eat with this gloss on and only lose minimal gloss. It comes in a nice variety of colors, but all dry sheer and will get along with most any skin tone. I love the way they look on the lip, both over lipstick and alone. They are lightly shimmery and glossy, but don't have that super shiny lacquer finish wet look (which makes my small lips look ridiculous.) The smell and taste is pleasant also.

  • CoverGirl Lash Blast Volume Mascara

    CoverGirl Lash Blast Volume Mascara

    Good, but not perfect

I bought this in dark brown, and wear it on my upper lashes. This mascara really does give a dramatic, false-lash look, and manages to make my short fine lashes have some volume and drama. The brush is fat, which takes some getting used to, and if you aren't careful you will get clumps. If you are at all prone to watery eyes make sure you get this in waterproof. Also, if you have sensitive eyes you may want to steer clear of this mascara; it seems little bits would flake off and get in my eyes. However, the waterproof formula may be a solution for that as well.
