Ahava Purifying Mud Mask - Normal to Dry

Mud...from a sea that is dead?

This purifying mud mask is made from the Dead Sea's mud. It contains energizing minerals to gently draw out impurities. When I received the package containing the Mud mask in the mail, I was highly curious on the smell and color. I mean, come on; Mud in the bottom of the Dead Sea straight from Israel? When I squeezed some out, it was dark in color and smelled like salt. The directions said to apply thoroughly and leave on for ...2 minutes? Seriously? Would that be enough time for it to do anything at all? Apparently, yes. The smell might not be akin to a "Honey Avocado" mask, or some other fruity flavor out there; but this mud mask works wonders. I have smooth, even, and deeply purified skin- all in two minutes!

  • Burt's Bees Peach & Willowbark Deep Pore Scrub

Burt's Bees Peach & Willowbark Deep Pore Scrub

For oily skin? But there's a residue...

When I saw this scrub on the Burt's Bees website, I absolutely had to try it. The willowbark supposedly works as a substitute instead of harmful salicylic acid, to unplug follicles and pores containing that nasty gunk we all hate. The exfoliating bits are made of finely ground peach stone. Upon using this for the first time, my face felt a little red- a little goes a long way. Afterwards, I felt like it left a bit of a waxy residue on my skin. However, I've been using the scrub for weeks now, and I have yet to see a breakout caused by the residue. My skin feels soft and smooth! The peach smell is delightful (and I don't even enjoy peach scented beauty products). I reccomend this product for oily skin or combination skin types. If you have more sensitive skin, I might pass this one up and use a gentler exfoliator.

  • Maybelline New York Define-A-Line Eye Liner

Maybelline's Define-A-Line eye liner promises a smooth, even, and effortless application with a precision tip liner. I've gotta say- Maybelline kept their promise. This self sharpening eye liner went on my eye lids with...well, precision. It gives the perfect smudged look for me, or I can keep it bold and sassy. The liner comes in a variety of colors too, like brown, slate gray, navy blue, khaki green (great to sport a natural hippie look), and rich raisin (a deep plum color that could be perfectly paired with shimmery purple shadow). The liner has a smudger on one end of the stick, but I just use a cloth to smudge. It has the same sleek design as all the "Maybelline Define" brand has. The only reason I gave this liner 8/10 stars, was because there was slight creasing at the top of my eye. All in all, superb liner!

  • Maybelline New York Define-a-Lash Lengthening Washable Mascara

I had previously heard horrible comments on this mascara, but my Mom urged me to get it at the drugstore, since she uses the same brand. On other websites, I had seen complaints of this mascara making their lashes too "spidery" and full of clumps. But since I had also read it won Allure's Editor's Choice Award as a good mascara for day, I bought it. I long forgot about it, then pulled it out one morning with low expectations. But to my surprise, this is one of the best mascaras I've ever used. The bottle design is very sleek, and a pretty green- a proud product for a clutch purse. It's easy to unscrew the bottle, and looks resistant to mascara spills. You really have to tug to get the brush out, which I believe was specifically designed for more clumps on the bottle; not your eyes. The bristlely brush appears to be made to be plastic, and a bit flexible. The actual mascara swept over my lashes with ease from root to tip. It truly does "define" your lashes, coating each one with mascara. If you use an eye lash comb after you apply your mascara, you probably wouldn't need to with this since you get the sense it brushes through them well too. This is a perfect everyday makeup for work or class (and the brownish black is great if you'd like a subtle look). It's also easy to remove with eye pads. This one's a winner!

  • Mary Kay NouriShine Plus Lip Gloss

This was my first time using any Mary Kay products, so I decided to start out with a lip gloss...my bar wasn't set too high, since I've heard some negative feedback on their products. I was pleasently surprised when the gloss smoothed over my lips with perfection. This gloss is just sticky enough to stay for hours and hours (I don't mind a little stick!), without becoming cakey (and I usually have that trouble with gloss). Bottle design wise- It closes tightly, and hasn't spilled in my purse yet. The wand is your average applicator. The color carries just the right amount of shimmer for me. I ordered the hue "Cream & Sugar", and it smells like sugar cookies coated in frosting!

  • Cetaphil Daily Facial Cleanser

    Cetaphil Daily Facial Cleanser

Very gentle cleanser; but it dried my skin out?

I have combination skin, with frequent breakouts. I've heard amazing things about the Cetaphil brand, and I thought I'd give it a try. For starters, I love the bottle design. It bugs me when I have to fiddle with screw-on caps, squeeze bottles that squirt out too much, etc. This is a nice pump with a nozzle that turns to open/close, and it's easy to control the amount of product you get. On the first week of using it, it did lighten my face up quite a bit (I'm prone to redness). By the second week, some of my breakouts were toned down. But sadly, by the third week my skin felt dryer and dryer by every use (even with putting on the Cetaphil moisturizer for Very dry skin every night like clockwork). But don't write off the Cetaphil brand entirely on my account. Director of Galderma Laboratories, Chris Osborn (Ph.D), says: "It's the undeniable matriarch of skin cleasers, the leader upon which so many brands have been patterned. It offers anyone of any age unsurpassed gentleness, safety, and efficiancy...Reccomended by thousands of dermatologists worldwide, Cetaphil Daily Facial Cleasers for Normal to Oily skin are free of soap, fragrance, and common irritants, making them ideal for use on sensitive skin."

  • Burt's Bees Honey Lip Balm
    7.0

    Burt's Bees Honey Lip Balm

    Amazing company, So-so balm...

Burt's Bees is an excellent brand, always using natural ingredients. I was highly impressed by the ingredients list on the balm: beeswax, sunflower oil, coconut oil, lanolin, comfrey root, vitamin E, honey, rosemary leaf oil, and a bit of fragrance. Upon use, I found it did moisturize my chapped lips, but only with incessent use. Normally, I put on my chapstick right before bed along with my skin care routine. But I found myself applying this balm several times a day to keep my lips moisturized (though happily, since I trust the Burt's Bees product line and natural ingredients). If your lips are extremely chapped, I'd go for something a bit more heavy. All in all though, not a bad lip balm for mildly dry lips. Another bonus- the tube contains 50% post-industrial recycled plastic. Great for those who are going green! P.s The balm seemed to work best if I dabbed it on, instead of smoothing it on- it felt too waxy when smoothed!

  • Blistex Lip Balm

    Blistex Lip Balm

    Not bad, not bad

I am always on a lip balm hunt during the winter. My lips get flaky, dull, and dry as the Sahara desert. I end up trying what feels like a hundred different brands. For some reason, I had always overlooked the Blistex brand. I picked up a package of plain ol' medicated Blistex, finally disgusted with just about every brand out there. It product states it has three long lasting protectants, and it seals in lip moisture to prevent drying of lip tissue. Also, the product has an SPF of 15 (your lips can develop sun damage even in the winter time). I gotta say- the balm smoothed over my lips comfortably (even though they were pretty rough). After a couple days, the product did it's job of hydrating my lips fairly thoroughly. However, the smell of the plain medicated lip balm is something to be desired. Go pick this product up if you have very chapped lips- And pick it up in berry or mint flavors!

  • Rusk Curlsilk Texture Control Mist

This is my #1 curl product. My hair texture is fine to medium, and I have mid-length frizzy hair. I get bouncy curls that feel 100% natural using this stuff. I just lightly spritz all over once my hair is dry after a shower (Yep, that's right, dry hair). Then I get big bouncing curls! Other times, I'll go to bed right after a shower and put my hair in a pony tail. When I wake up, I spritz this stuff in my hair without even combing, and I again have very natural looking curls. I've never tried this on wet hair, so I bet that'd be a good experiment. Another one would probably be spraying this on wet hair and finger styling curls- which I'll be trying soon, since it has such a nice/weightless hold.
