I just purchased my first bottle of VdN (parfum) after having tried it several times at a local Neiman Marcus (NM had the parfum and EDT testers but only the EDT in stock- I was, however, able to purchase the parfum at a special event they held). I'm a Guerlain fan; I have a strong postive response to the Guerlinade in Shalimar, VdN, Vega, etc. I find these fragrances complex, deep and soulful without being either inaccessible or depressing. My love of VdN eclipses my feelings about Shalimar. To me, VdN is more complex, spicier, more nuanced, yet also more confident. It's not a "come hither" fragrance intended for seduction, but instead is a fragrance I wear for myself. However, I have to add a big caution line. I tried the EDT several times and it did nothing, I mean nothing, for me- it evaporated after a few seconds and had none of the depth of the parfum. This surprised me because I used to use Shalimar in several forms and liked them all. VdN, however, is one I would only ever purchase as a parfum. form.
